A friend of mine was sick, and her band actually has a moderately-sized local fanbase, so they'd actually be disappointing people by canceling, so I filled in for her last night. Not only did the anxiety I thought I'd feel fade as soon as we hit the first note and people began cheering, making me feel like they were a friend rather than a critic, but you also play and feel differently when playing for people. It's much more exciting, much more entertaining and way more fulfilling, I think everyone who plays an instrument should feel it once.
