I Love Plays And Thespians

Well, my run with the local playhouse's production of The Matchmaker (the play that inspired Hello, Dolly!, clips from which were seen in Wall-E) has ended. It was a really fun play in all aspects. It would have been even more fun if we had done even half the pranks we wanted to do for the closing performance, but our sage and cunning director issued a strict edict before curtain to the effect that we were not to partake in any shenanigans, which is unfortunate because the, er, younger elements of the cast had come up with some corkers, including but not necessarily limited to:

Me coming out with a scarf around my neck as part of my Sunday clothesDoing the Macarena while we sang this one songReplacing the "wine" with some Mountain Dew Code Red I'd broughtComing out for the curtain call with all the couples mixed up and some new ones added in"Misplacing" Mr. Vandergelder's kneepads for the fourth actGrabbing someone's leg as I hid beneath the table in act twoPutting real whiskey in Malachi's flaskAlmost certainly some other things I've forgottenAnd now, by virtue of being a young male interested in acting (a strange and rare breed in community theatre, at least hereabouts), I've gotten into yet another production without having to audition. This time it's a musical called [Darn] Yankees. Just a minor role, but it should be interesting.

Also, I fancy starting a Play and Thespian Support Group in CoT, for discussion of theatrical endeavours and whatnot. Any takers?

Lol, in our school we were also not allowed to pull final performance pranks. Luckily, we had a kooky director who let us put in plenty of weird stuff as part of the normal routeene. We did the couples-mix up thing once.

And, yeah, girls usually outnumbered us guys in my drama class... the only reason why I got into some roles, I'm sure...

Hah, sounds awesome. We have a running prank in our drama group that constitutes putting a potato with eyes in every single play. We call him Jack.
