Avoid exposure to all glowing LCD displays, including computer monitors and cell phones, for two hours before going to bed in the evening. The light from these displays suppresses and disrupts your body's production of melatonin, the "sleep hormone."

I wish I'd known this a long time ago. It also explains why it's possible to stay up all night in front of the computer and not feel sleepy, merely sleep-deprived.

I don't have an LCD display at home, but I'm at school using one right now. I've had the same monitor for years, from back when I had Windows 98.

I found this article to support the notion.

While this article focuses on the health effects of blue light during sleeping hours, pre-bedtime use of some other light sources with a strong blue component, such as high intensity lamps and PC monitors, has also been blamed for causing sleep disturbances, again by stimulating blue light receptors that trigger inhibit melatonin production.

Another site recommended getting rid of backlit LCD clock displays within view of where you sleep.
