It's safer to fly in a plane than drive in a car. Fewer planes in the sky, plus the pilots are professional. Some of the people that get behind the wheel of a car shouldn't have a license at all.

They do have something on the ground.

10 000 feet of gravitationally bound gaseous nitrogen and oxygen, that's what. You'd be surprised how much weight a square meter receives from the top of the stratosphere all the way to the earth's surface.

Just saying.

But planes are awesome and cool and they fly, up thousands of feet, so high and fast! It's exciting during storms!
