And most importantly:

I'm going to do this like Primus did.

Pros:

  • BIONICLE compatible pieces
  • Better torso than the Inika/Piraka torsos
  • New pieces in old colours
  • New pieces!
  • More cohesive aesthetically than BIONICLE
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Expensive
  • Expensive
  • Consist solely of chunky pieces
  • No pins or axles
  • Tiny feet
  • Feet have the socket facing the wrong way for maximum posability
  • Head is goofy
  • Claws can't hold things
  • Did I mention these sets are expensive??
I want to get a few more for specific pieces, but I'm not interested in the sets themselves. And goodness, these things make me feel like BIONICLE canister sets haven't actually been over-priced!

DV, your photos make almost anything look wonderful, but I'm sorry, this looks just as bad and boring as ever. ;_;

Stop buying them; you'll make Lego think people want these abominations!

People do want these. I work at a Target store, and we sold out of our entire case the day we put them on the shelf.

To compare, the Stars lasted the entire week before Christmas, and we still had a few left over afterward.

But I wanted this for the parts, specifically the tail, and the yellow wings/glider. Some new limb pieces are always welcome as well.

Oh.

Then DEAR GODS -WHY-

I agree new limb pieces are welcome, but they're so ... plain, and then the upper limb pieces being -one piece- is just a horrific disappointment. And then almost every piece in there is so horrifically big and specialized and the majority of them not at all modular. Throw in that this is, what, 16 pieces for $16? and it becomes even more ghastly.

And I realize this is exactly what the AFOLs said to Bionicle back in 2001, but gods, Bionicle seems like pure, good-old-fashioned Technic, with axle and pin holes all over the place, compared to this. Even the Avotoran, whose molds were the most specialized Bionicle's ever gotten (aside from blasters, but those were one/two/three molds per group of six), were positively riddled with Technic connection points.

I don't disagree with you. I don't understand the appeal that well either, maybe its the Ben 10 name?

But I'm okay with owning one or two of them, just for parts. There are some great pieces in some of these. The moth wings? Those little flame/crystal/feather things? Yes please.

I don't really like the plain-ness of the limb pieces, but they do have connection points. They're not terribly exciting, being viking horn sized holes, but they are there. And underneath there are axle holes. Not terribly exciting, and not terribly versatile, but there do exist possibilities.

Oh, there are axle holes underneath? That boosts them at least somewhat, in my mind. (since the Viking horn-sized holes are indeed scarcely versatile connection points, as I did indeed notice them.)

And I'm betting it's the Ben 10 label too. Maybe if I were a fan of the show and recognized these guys in the Lego aisle I'd be all over them too. But ... as I don't know the first thing about Ben 10 ... I can't even begin to relate.

The double-socket connectors have no technic connection, but the lower leg pieces do.

Have I ever thanked you for taking such lovely clear photos of the mysterious parts of sets that everyone wonders about but so few people actually photograph? If not, thank you <3

And those upper limb pieces make me even sadder now.

THE TORSO.

Ultimate "Do want" there; I've got an idea to use it for a BIONICLE: Mask of Light-style Rahkshi. :sly:

I believe you thanked me quite sincerely when we hung out during Brickfair 2010. Andrew was there, maybe he can help me out here.

Andrew, wasn't the time we spent with ToM at Brickfair '10 amazingly good times?

I see a few pieces in there that I would actually like, if I was a MoCist. But the price? Owch. Major owch.

And sad, but true--I was at Target yesterday and there seemed to be twice as many Bionicle on the shelf, compared to just a couple left of these. What's gotten into those parents and children recently?

Oh yes, of course. How silly of me to forget about events that haven't happened yet (but will).

Well, looks like TLC did make a good decision to license Ben 10 - it seems that the brand name alone is propelling the sales, regardless of the actual quality of the sets. And when I mean "quality," I mean: what the heck has gotten into kids these days, that they'd want to buy something as bad as this? Same with the parents, only relating to the uber-expensive prices.

Yaytorso.

I might get some, just because there is a new torso piece... Which looks like Radiak's taken up to 11.
