Cd Cases 101
So, recently I got a new CD. Namely, Frank Zappa's Shut Up N' Play Yer Guitar. Haven't listened to it yet as I just got it out of the packaging, but one thing that impressed me already was the case. It seems like a minute thing, but the retro feel it gives off is just something that I really like.
But enough yammering, photo time since they can explain better than me!
It's made out of a sort of "Fancy cardboard" kind of material, but otherwise, excusing it's depth since it's a three-disc album, it looks fairly regular.
Once you open it, it seems a little suspect since the insert is just sitting there and the discs are nowhere to be seen, but for the most part it still seems fairly regular. Once you remove the insert and reveal the CD's though, you get the treat.
And now you can see it; they designed it to be like the old vinyl packaging. I may be one of the few people who has never bought a vinyl LP who appreciates this, but to me, this is how you package a remastered rerelease of old material; take the vinyl packaging and shrink it down two-thirds. Again, I'm probably a bit odd for finding this cool enough to post this, but to me, this is something that, if I were someone at Rykodisc when the person who came up with it came and said "We should base it off the old vinyl packaging, only make it fit a CD", I'd pat the person on the back, shake their hand, then treat them to dinner, all of which I could afford because I'm part of the idea department of Rykodisc, a subsidiary of the rich-but-asinine WMG. Either way though, this was a great idea I think, and kudos to whoever thought of it.
