Final Jamboree Meeting

Mysterious Minifig

Sunday was the last regular troop meeting for my Jamboree troop. Everything is falling into place now.

It looks like I might have very limited access to a computer while the troop is touring Washington DC. I'm going after a spot in the Hometown News Correspondent program and the local news paper is working with me to make that happen. I'm going to have write one article while we're touring since the first publish date is the 26 of July, and then I'll be writing two article at the Jamboree. Biggest perk to the program is I'll have access to a bike. There's also a possibility that I could be blogging, the person in charge of the program has been ignoring my e-mails so I'm not sure if that will work out.

I'll also post a picture of my council's shoulder patch later. Last time I took a picture of it it didn't turn out right. Hopefully it will work today.

My troop has also taken a no electronics stance. This is probably the strictest possible since anyone who somehow smuggles cell phones or mp3 players will most likely get sent home. Is everyone else's troop the same way or is their troop's policy more relaxed?

The "get sent home" threat really is a blank one. They need your money, and sending you home would mean they lose that money, and as per council politics, they can only do that in the most severe cases. Not saying that taking electronics is cool, though. :P

Most troops are conservatively approaching the new technology standing the BSA is taking, allowing kids to take phones and such with reservations (not on the tour, not in public, not for recreation, etc).

I think our troop is going to be the exception then. No electronics period. They're actually going to unpack and go through all of our stuff the night before we leave to make sure no one is trying to smuggling electronics.

Actually I'm not sure if having electronics is one of the offenses that would get you sent home. If it's not it's pretty close. Either way, the leaders in my troop have made it clear that they won't be afraid to send scouts home.

How would sending someone home cause them to lose money?
