Please Share Some Wisdom...

I have a rather bad dental problem. After wearing head-gear, braces, and now retainers, the wisdom teeth have come in. The least I can say is that one came out right. The rest came out, well, wrong. Wisdom on the Upper Left came out perfectly natural, matching with the rest of my teeth. Upper Right is half-in half-out, and no intention of moving out anymore except there. Bottom Left is half-tooth half-gum, meaning that gum infection's likely going to make my jaw hurt like mad, and Bottom Right is just growing the wrong way - sideways.

The orthodontist only had a quick gaze into my mouth to see there were serious issues, and an X-ray was taken to reveal all this. Now here's the question - do I wait it out and let the wisdom teeth grow and remain where they are, or do I do an extraction to rid them all? Right now, they aren't aching or hurting me, though I do remember occasions back in Boston where my teeth did have a bout of pain every now and then.

I'm addressing this to readers who have had extractions before, or those in the know, or if you got a good opinion. I do not like the idea of extractions, especially with all of these complications. But should I just shoulder it, plan a few weeks for my teeth to heal over time and just go for a world of (temporary) hurt? XD

Get them out. Get it over with. I was out of commission for about a week after losing mine, and it was definitely one of the worse weeks of my life, but having had it done three years ago I am so glad that it's over with and out of the way and I never have to worry about them again.

So if now's a convenient time to be out of it for a few days, then just do it. You'll be glad later on.

Definitely what ToM said. I had all four of mine out in the same session last November. The week of recovery was annoying, but now I never have to worry about it again. I'd definitely say just get them out if they're causing problems.

I just had one of mine out, and honestly, they're so fast at it. It took literally 7 minutes to get it out. After 2 shots I was numb enough that I didn't feel much. There were a couple times I had to wince, but this was from pressure, not pain, and I was able to imagine something nice and it distracted me. The biggest thing is the recovery; plan to be down for about a week, no matter how many teeth are removed. The painkillers make you slightly loopy, but they get rid of the headache-like pain in your jaw. Definitely do it as soon as possible. Best wishes! :) *hug*

I think I had some pretty complex surgery to remove mine too, but they knocked me out, so I didn't have to endure the process. And it hurt for about two weeks or so, but no more than braces. And I'd say plan on getting them out sooner than later... why wait until they're constantly in pain?
