It's SoulSilver, not HeartGold, so I couldn't catch Ho-oh before the Elite Four. And no, I still have my Masterball, and I plan on using it on Latios when I see it in the wild.

Unless it's a selfdestructing shiny, though, you'll want to just toss some Poke Balls at it first. I caught several shinies in full health by just throwing Ultra Balls at them, without wasting a Master Ball.
