  1. 1) Irrelevant, because the point was to have it be relatable to consumers.

    2) Again, we're talking about 2015 and the changes we want to see this time around. None of us are asking to retcon MU 2001-2010.

    3) 5/6 ratio adds to the atmosphere? Makes it more mythical? I would argue equal gender ratios amongst the tribe would improve the line and storyline. It's less restrictive. Making one gender exclusively female is an arbitrary restriction, and ends up being an inconvenience if you want to switch things up a bit. Think of every other storyline that houses a universe with equal gender ratio. For example, DC comics. Obviously half the human population is female. That doesn't mean it caters less to boys, or that females take up half the casts in the story roster. Same thing with bionicle. Nobody is saying make half the sets female characters.

    4) I'm pretty sure you can pass off any colour as feminine. Blue is also traditionally marketed to be masculine, especially shades like navy blue (which the metru blue would be).

    1) Customers AKA little boys.

    2) Still, I'd rather keep the 5/6 ratio.

    3) DC COMICS ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE PLACE IN THE REAL WORLD. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A WORLD FULL OF ROBOTS.

And female characthers from a tribe would act just like the males, because all individuals from a tribe have similar personalities. No story getting enlarged.

    4) Red-unlikely

    White-more unlikely

Brown-NO(I'm not racist, but it's just not feminine in general)

    Black-NO

    Blue-yes

Green-uhh, maybe. But it's dark green, so unlikely.

  2. Are you a marketer, Cleanser? Little boys don't like playing with girly things, this is fact. I see it daily. Because they're marketing the line to little boys, Lego had to offer a range of male personalities so any little boy could relate to the line. The Token Female then represents what the little boy sees girls as; Team Mom.

I'm 13, no job other than failing at life, and wasting time.

But you don't really need a specialization to realize that robots appeal more to boys, than girls.

I'd have no problem roleplaying as a girl

    ...Same here.

Pretty sure kids don't care about genders.

    "Ew boys/girls"

    Yeah. Not exactly uncommon.

Because they're marketing the line to little boys, Lego had to offer a range of male personalities so any little boy could relate to the line.

I would agree that that's the mentality behind it.

The Token Female then represents what the little boy sees girls as; Team Mom.

    ...Uh if you say so.

I don't see why leaving a group open to the potential of having multiple genders is an issue.

1)Problem solved, people can roleplay other genders.

2)Yes, but more boys buying the line=less girls in the line.

    3)It is

4)Again, boys mostly buy males in toy lines. Less males=less money

    1) We live in the 21st century. So tough luck.

    2) That was true when Matoran were artificial. Even then, the Glatorian and Agori reproduced biologically. We don't know anything about the biological nature of the 2015 characters. As far as we know, we may not even have matoran or Turaga. Ekimu and Makuta are brothers, and Makuta is not a species. Magic exists. So right off the bat, there is no reason to assume that any of the restrictions of the MU applies in 2015. This entire thread is meant to voice changes you want in the new storyline.

    3) You are trying to ridicule the argument by making an appeal to the fact that Bionicle is fiction. Not working. I still don't see why there is any reason why there shouldn't be a 50/50 gender ratio amongst the tribes. Mind you, nobody is saying that we should get 50/50 named characters in sets. We're simply asking for the tribes in the storyline to have more diversity.

    4) "When we're talking about a giant robot inhabited by cyborgs realistic things have no place in here". We're not.

There is no negative effects of making even gender ratios. For one, if Lego decides they are tired of having the blue characters always be female they can actually reassign the female role to another colour. That also means we can actually get some Toa of Water that are male.

    1) Yeah, but matoran don't live like in the 21st century, they live in a time before it.

    2) No problem with Bara Magna BECAUSE THEY CAN REPRODUCE AND GENDER MATTERS THERE, NOT IN THE MU.

    3) The 5/6 ratio adds to the atmosphere, is more mythical(one of the main focuses of bionicle) and doesn't fix any real problems. It won't improve the lore or line.

Grow up, just because a few robots think they are femeales changes nothing. And I'm pretty sure different Ga-matoran can have different personalities.

    4) Blue is the most feminine colour of the bunch, doubt they'd change it.

    Also trans tamaru pls go.

  3.

    I'd pay for this.

Heck, if Lego wanted to make some money from it I'd be game. They could even set up for consoles, maybe with a slightly more complex campaign with difficulty selection.

Diablo has a PVP area, and that's be pretty cool to see.

If they added a few perks with the same style as MNOG, it'd be killer.

Don't get me wrong, MNOG had great depth for what it was, but it'd just increase the experience in a positive way with a little more depth.

Dunno, the fun part about diablo was commiting demon genocide and seeing heaven.

And the epic scale.(From a small uncut gem to a gigantic one)

AKA things that can't happen in the MU

  4. According to BS01, the schools in Ga-Metru functioned to teach history, science, language, and diplomacy. What I do not understand is why there were even schools in the first place. for example, if the Matoran were already programmed to know their own language, why would they need to go to school for it? Also, if the Matoran can live forever (unless they go to the Red Star), why would they need history if they have lived it?

Also, what would be taught in the science and diplomacy aspects of the educational process, what would each of those constitute? My guesses are Matoran Anatomy (or Rahi anatomy, to be less disgusting) and Leadership skills, respectively.

I though this would be some "women belong in the kitchen" thread, but believe it or not, I'm against that.

1)Language-Language changes over time, and I'm pretty sure matoran don't know about linguistics without education

2)History-What if you live under a rock?(literally, as a onu-matoran) Don't tell me you couldn't have missed something.

3)Diplomacy-Don't you tell me matoran are born with diplomacy. It'd pretty much be composed on what word to use/tone and how to act, etc.

    4)Science-STEM, phyzziks, chemistry & stuff

  5.

    2) Equal gender ratios amongst tribes

    3) Toa of Light being a female.

I don't understand why people are so obsessed with there being more females.

In what way would the story change? Why does it matter, if it's targeted to boys? How would the story change if the toa were all female?(From a gender-roleless story, because I'm pretty sure that a full female toa team would be full of stereotypes.)

If Takanuva was a female, would anything even change? There's no different biology, no love(from what I heard), no nothing, it's all in their heads.

You people must grow up. Changing a few genders around in a toy line isn't going to solve any problems or discriminations.

And start asking "what logical reason is there that it SHOULDN'T represent the gender diversity in the real world?" Because there are no good answers to the latter.

1)Gender ratios were almost NEVER equal before the third part of the 20th century.

Men died in wars en masse(male privilege=getting blown up by artillery in a miserable trench), thus making women take up more of precentages.

2)Bionicles don't reproduce. Gender diversity is completely arbitrary when you can't make babies.

    3)"Why should a fictional world full of robots/cyborgs NOT have a 50/50 gender ratio?"<Wat.

4)Because it's FANTASY. You're supposed to escape the real world and engage in something different.

When we're talking about a giant robot inhabited by cyborgs realistic things have no place in here.

Okay, let's say some girl wants to self insert herself in the MU and can only choose one element of the six principal ones

    She can:

-Shut up and be a Ga-matoran

-Stop whining and be a male matoran.

I'd have no problem roleplaying as a girl, and I'm not.

Though I hope LEGO caters to it's principal customers(children), not some "muh ebil patriachy" manchildren.

Pretty sure kids don't care about genders.

  6.

Get rid of the LGBTOISDVBSAFH le ebil patriarchy and pretty much everything regarding opinions. Objective information, works, but no influence to which side they choose.

I mean, kids lie a lot about their age and I refuse to believe they should think about these things instead of school, so maybe some of them will not even have have reached puberty.(Pretty sure I messed this sentence up.)

    "instead of school"

    Really

Like even if you somehow honestly believe kids should not think about anything but school, you DO REALIZE that you are talking about a Bionicle forum where people regularly get into heated arguments about children's construction toys right

We get it, you don't personally want to hear about important social issues, please come up with a better justification next time

Well, the real justification is that this community is filled with LGBTQURTSHoids and I don't want the children to grow up to be LGBTQURTSHoids.

But that gets me banned for hate.

(On a side note, is all hate banned? Is hating the Church bannable? What about the Islamic state? North Korea? Is hating religion/atheism/spirituality bannable?)

  7. 2) Equal gender ratios amongst tribes

  8.

Bionicle has actually had lots of really interesting morality systems. 2001 was black and white, but we got a more gray and white conflict in the Bohrok saga, with the Swarm's alien motives. 2004 was black and white at its core, but had several intriguing gray characters like Krahka, the Karzahni and the EP Entity. Then it went straight-up gray and black with 2005, a really, really grimdark year in retrospect. The beginning of 2006 was similarly dark, but then became increasingly bright and morally stark until the end of the saga. So I think the future Bionicle line might turn out similarly: a kind of day-evening-midnight-morning-day parabolic thematic arc.

Yet overall, Bionicle never approached the grimdark level that even the brightest parts of Warhammer do. Bionicle is a children's line, so we're likely to see themes and storylines that marketing think children can handle.

Ignition was dark, but still child-friendly. As much as we are adults and teenagers, we aren't the target audience here. We're the Easter Egg hunters. I expect a good story, but a child-friendly story. Heaven knows adult can still appreciate a good children's story, like the Hobbit.

Yeah, because Saving a king from death and thus creating a friendship that is still lasting after 2500 years is a level of grimdark bionicle never reached. Sure.

Grimdark doesn't mean life is absolutely horrible all day, every day. It might have had a bright past.

  9. Nobody ever got banned (as far as I know :P) for mentioning a banned member. You could get a message telling you to avoid doing it in the future, though. That is part of our policy of not giving persistent troublemakers undue attention, since probably the reason they act out in the first place is to get attention. We also don't want to encourage discussing what specific banned members did wrong so that the banned member themselves is not embarrassed necessarily.

I suppose if somebody went around breaking that rule and only that rule repeatedly despite warnings (and despite their agreeing to follow the rules upon joining), obviously just to cause trouble, that might lead to a suspension or banning, but I'm not personally aware of any examples. As far as I know anybody who got banned while that was one of their actions would be banned for other things they also did.

Edit: Also, a ban is just what the word means -- a ban, not an "execution", unless you know of somebody who has surgically tied in their life support functions to access to a website. :P It would be more comparable to exile.

I'm talking about a perma-ban being the closest thing to an execution on a forum.

Still, this is very good to know.

  10. Get rid of the LGBTOISDVBSAFH le ebil patriarchy and pretty much everything regarding opinions. Objective information, works, but no influence to which side they choose.

  11. Well, apparently mentioning someone that was banned forever gets you permabanned too.

This is only from what I've heard. A lot of hate to the mod's so-called tyranny outside the net.

No idea if this is true or not. This post getting me banned will probably be the answer.

    Edit: Inappropriate analogy removed.

  12. That's unlikely, considering Toa/Masters are heroes for 10-year-olds. Grimdark only really appeals to emo teenagers who think their lives are like so depressing and horrible. Children's series, like what BIONICLE is marketed as, only really get as grim as the Ignition arcs. It could work as a fanfic, but it won't be official by any means.

Grimdark can work very well, it's not only for edgy teenagers.

Well-made grimdark gives more depth to a setting, the heroes aren't omni-potent and you know they can fail, and that makes success and fixing your former mistakes VERY satisfying.

Take for example Warhammer Fantasy(I do agree 40k is too grimderp4me). There's a giant egyptian skeleton necromancer that devoured a god or two, took control of the afterlife and now seeks to defeat the four overlords of .

That's not for edgy teenagers, that's AWESOME. Bionicle should do some of this epic Bad guy vs Bad guy stuff too.

Oh well, I'm talking about grimdark in a fandom (probably) oversaturated with MLP and noblebright weeaboo. This like the evil land of mordor/<insert horrible place here> for the likes of you.

  13. wow that's...

i don't mean to insult but your speech pattern is kinda garbled at times. it's almost like you're talking kinda fast. o:

i'm also questioning why you show disdain for east asia so much. hmm. :0

It's almost as if something unaestetichaly pleasing cannot be liked.

Though I really like mongols/huns. Their culture, while not really revolutionary by any means, was still aestetichally pleasing. Also, religious freedom.

(I do tend to speak quickly in real life too.)

On the same topic, a mongol-themed island would be pretty cool. Different cultures for different islands?

    Aztec/Meso-american-Okoto

    Mongol?

    Russian?

    North american?

    Japanope!

  14. hey guys, i think you mean. no more giant robots under islands.

after all, giant robots that, like, i dunno, fight angels or something? those would be refreshing to see!

"angels"-Where? What? When? Is this time to use the hat maymay? I don't ündérschtänd!

"giant robots...that fight"-the only excusable ones would be exo toas.

I don't even think I had any reaction to this comment.

Like, I cut myself so hard on that unseen edge that my brain lost the blood to have proper empatethical functions.

  15.

Also, it's not racism, it would classify as xenphobia.

Don't make your trolling this obvious next time, 'kay? :)

I know you people must be "special snowflakes" and colour their texts in the most annoying ways possible, but would you be kind enough not to desacrate my text?

Also, Xenophoba is fear of strangers. Racism is hate of people of different races.

A german could hate romanians and be xenophobic, but not racist.

That's darn comic sans. You have no right to question my dislike of your choice of text in this case.

you dislike japanese culture because of their... vegetation?

that's not even part of there culture, y'know. the vegetation was there before the japanese were. :0

(i'm not mentioning the more problematic points of your post because they speak for themselves, honestly.)

I'm saying that if someone makes a fictional universe based on japanese stuff they will inevitably use that vegetaion.

Why are there always oaks and bears in european fantasy?

And vegetation isn't the main problem, it's the aestethics, and THE MODERN CULTURE.

    "speak for themselves."

My xenophobia? I don't really hate strangers, I dislike their culture.(As in Japanese culture, who encourages degeneracy nowadays, and I'd put American on the list, but the USA has no culture. It's like saying what kind of non-metal lithium would be. China is pretty okay now, actually, and so is south korea?)

I stand my ground. BIONICLE/BIONICLAE/BIONICLEI/BIONICLES SHOULD LIVE IN HUTS, NOT JAPANESE PAPER HOUSES.

  16. Alright, so I don't know if this has been done already, and if it has, then my apologies.

Anyway, I'm making this topic for the discussion of Protodermis; how it was made from EP, its properties, and such. Energized Protodermis too.

Alright, so first of all, how in the world can protodermis exist both as a clear, water-like liquid, and as a hot, molten metal-like liquid?

I actually went on a bit of a writing spree yesterday, and came up with a theory. Mind you, this is a bit scientific, so... anyway. I think that protodermis might actually not be regular matter, but rather something that might be called "psuedo-matter", quantum machines of relatively the same size as normal atoms, but with many intricate, controllable properties.

    So... discussion?

I think that all in all, protodermis is based on the greek philosopher and matematichian, Thales's vision of the world.

That is, everything is made out of metaphysical water.

I have no idea if lego directly inspired themselves from Thales, or no, but this concept was developed before Christ(I suppose, too lazy to google.)

  17.

    Seems pretty Aztec-themed.

Not that I have a problem, they could take any kind of culture from greek, norse, arab, african, and even innuit.

BUT NOT ANYTHING CHINESE/JAPANESE/KOREAN. Nononononononononononononononono. Nein. Nu. Non.

I'm trying to figure out a justification for your fervent opposition to Asian influences that would make your post sound less racist, but it's difficult. Did you know that some of the Matoran from the MNOLG 2 had names derived from Japanese (alongside scores of other languages?) Have you considered that Japanese culture generally has more in common with the Polynesian cultures that inspired Bionicle in the first place than most European cultures do?

Because Oriental culture, all in all, isn't as intresting when compared to european ones.(Katanas are bloody twigs and belief in reincarnation -after some internet browsing- is so cheesy I can't even take it serious anymore. Other beliefs are okay though, but I still could barely read the holy book/verses of the Tao religion.)

But people still use it like 100000 times because it's so "exotic" and "intresting" and "alien", that even if it would it's not anymore.

Also, I don't have anything against japanese names, as long as they don't use those arched roofs I won't puke.(Actually, I think the scenery is the thing I dislike most about oriental culture, otherwise it doesn't seem bad. Ugly architecture, unsightly vegetation etc.)

Oh, yes, Japanese culture was about honor(and other respectable things) but is now about social degeneracy and other unclean things.(If you knew about your no.1 enemy site more you'd think the same as me.)

Also, it's not racism, it would classify as xenphobia.

    Race is a biological construct.

    Culture is a social construct.

My stance is, that bionicles should LIVE IN HUTS AND NOT JAPANESE HOUSES.

  18.

The most questionable thing here is why the great beings made two different genders, when they can't breed.

that usually files under "if we explain this particular thing it'll only be more confusing and agonizing to read"

short answer: for human-like familiarity, humans have gender as a thing that unquestionably exists, so humanoids in fiction usually follow suit.

Yeah, but we know the real answer don't we?

LEGO didn't refuse to seize the chance to sell a few boy-ish girls a few action figures.

This, but also I'd like to see the other elements we didn't see at all in Gen 1. Stuff like Plasma, Sonics, Gravity, Lightning, etc.

Those are actually the most cheesy things you could see in the bionicle universe.

These things are used by 8-year olds to make weapons sound super deadly and cool.

  19. Why change the word toa?

    What's wrong with it?

It's a great thing. I can't remember the last time I saw a universe where places had an alien, yet understandable language.(Edit: I really need to re-read my stuff.)

More universes need to do this.

Actually, I'd be pretty depressed If they threw away the "toa" name.

They're calling the villages "kotos" aren't they? Right...? Right.......? :(

I'm happy with any termination, y'know... :begging:
