If you were not aware, Episode 11 has been released (in Russian), and it has murals. Steven Universe has taught us that murals are important, so I took a closer look at the murals.

    Here is one of them

Now there's a lot that can be taken from this, but the most important thing?

Mario, Master of Plumbers, has been confirmed!!

I tried a randomized Diamond but it didn't go so well: my computer doesn't run the DS emulator so well, and the first Gym was a Dragon Gym with legendaries.

So now I'm doing a randomized Leaf Green. I wasn't sure what to expect when the starters were Squirtle, Torchic, and Nidoran (male), or when Nidoran's ability turned out to be Oblivious. (He does have Sketch, though!) When I went onto Route 1 and caught a Celebi with Wonder Guard, though, I knew this was gonna be great. (Granted Celebi has a ton of weaknesses but STILL.)

I added a cheat for 100% catch to make sure I can get all these weird mons, and I've encountered some interesting ones. Totodiles with Cute Charm and Hydro Cannon, Armaldos who loaf around, Lunatones with a terrifyingly morbid moveset. On the trainer side of things, my rival is Designer Green (my gosh he's so pretentious, it's flipping green), the Bug Catchers are all Swimmers yet seem to prefer Houndour, and Pewter City Gym is a Dark Gym (!!!) housing Champion Liam and Cop Brock. I cannot wait to see what else lies ahead.

Anyway, here are the Pokemon I'm actively training right now:

-Nidoran, Lv 9: Alias "Nido Ran Gogh". Since he has Sketch I figured a pun on the name of a famous artist was in order. Haven't used Sketch yet, though, not sure what I should be looking for. Other moves are Screech, Sludge Bomb, and Poison Fang. My starter.
-Celebi, Lv 13. Alias to be determined. They are a mythical Pokemon. They have Wonder Guard. I caught one at Level 3 about 20 feet from my house. Moves are Confusion, Psychic, Solarbeam, and Petal Dance.
-Quilava, Lv 11: Alias "The Quilavatar". All her moves are of different types (Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Twister, Arm Thrust). Ability is Pickup, found on Route 2.
-Bellsprout, Lv 8: Alias to be determined. Found in Viridian Forest, has Speed Boost ability, attacks are Poison Sting, some other Poison move I don't remember right now, Flame Wheel, and Leaf Blade (her main move right now).

Name suggestions for Celebi and Bellsprout are being accepted.

Yeah, I went ahead and did it.

Technic Tournament is sort of a reboot of Technic Warzone, which itself was sort of a reboot of Technic Coliseum, which itself was sort of a reboot of the Technic Coliseum that was running before the forums crashed. (Dang, I guess I have been doing this for a while…shoot is this actually the five years mark?!)

Basically: you join, you spend money to promote the matches, if the character you promoted wins then you get money back. Whoever has the most money at the end of the tournament wins the game!

The characters are taken from Bionicle, Hero Factory, RoboRiders, and Slizers/Throwbots. To keep things small and easy to manage, I went with four from each line (in Bionicle’s case, 2 from G1 and 2 from G2). They were randomized into their current match-ups, and then, you know…things just go from there, like any tournament.

I’m going to let players join whenever they want, but it’ll only get harder to catch up with each round that passes, so your best chance to win is to join before the end of round 1 (Friday, July 17th at 9:30 PM Eastern Time)! I hope you’ll enjoy it!
  4. Pahrak Model ZX
So, I still have a desire to do a new Technic Coliseum. However, I don’t really have the time or energy to do a full, long-lasting game, so I started thinking of simpler and shorter ways to run the game. The result is Technic Tournament!

Sixteen characters, four from each of the four relevant lines, have been selected. They will be randomly paired up, and round 1 will begin. (Each round will probably last about a week, I think.) The players each are given 20,000 Widgets (subject to change) when they sign up, and they will use that money to finance promotion for as many or as few fighters in that round as they want. (You can only promote one fighter per match, though; if Tahu and Stormer are fighting and you promote Tahu, you cannot promote Stormer that round.) Whoever receives the most money from promotion will win and move on to the next round, and the total money spent to promote both fighters will be divided equally amongst players who promoted the winning fighter. The one who wins the game is the one who has the most money at the end of the tournament!

The exact details of promotion are still being fine-tuned. What I’m thinking now is that there will be four types: TV Commercial, Radio Ad, Internet Campaign, and Magazine Ad. Each player will make a profile and rate how good they are with each type of promotion on a scale of 1-5, with their total “specialty points” adding up to 15. I’ll roll a die, and if it lands on a number equal to or less than your specialty in that area, the promotion is a success, and you add Widgets to the overall pot for that fighter. (I’m thinking Widgets added will be higher if you have a lower specialty, as a high risk high reward sort of thing.) There will also be a bonus if you use a certain type of promotion for a fighter from a certain line. (TV Commercial for Bionicle, Radio Ad for Hero Factory, Internet Campaign for RoboRiders, and Magazine Ad for Slizers) If you get the bonus, I’ll add 1 to your specialty for that roll, and you’ll get more money if successful (right now I’m thinking an extra 100x result). So, if you have a specialty of 5 in TV and decide to do a TV Commercial for a Bionicle fighter, you’re guaranteed to succeed.

Again, I’m still working on it, but I think this is going to be the basis going forward so I wanted to see if I could get any feedback. What do you all think of this? Would you be interested in playing? What would you recommend changing, and how would you change it?

(Also the character list is already decided on, so no suggestions on that front please!)

Square Enix: (2006-2013) We are working hard on several new Kingdom Hearts titles, two will have major plot developments and one will retcon the story to show things involving fan-favorite characters, everyone’s putting in a lot of effort.
Fandom: But none of them are called Kingdom Hearts III! Why do you hate us you should have called the fourth game in the series Kingdom Hearts III since you called the third one Kingdom Hearts II I’m going to completely ignore everything you’re doing because you didn’t.

Square Enix: (2013) We only just started development on Kingdom Hearts III, but we were able to just barely pull together an announcement trailer to give you an idea of what you can look forward to!
Fandom: UGH FINALLY! *five seconds pass* JUST RELEASE IT ALREADY I mean how long can it take to create a game??????

Sqaure Enix: (2015) Yeah, there’ll be some KHIII news at the D23 Expo later this year…haha actually we already have this cool trailer to show you at E3! Sorry it’s not longer, there’s a bunch more we wanted to show but couldn’t due to time constraints.
Fandom: OMG wow that’s so cool but hey wait no release date?! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO US?! UGH YOU ALWAYS DO THIS IT’S LIKE YOU DON’T EVEN CARE ABOUT US SQUARE!!

Nomura: (in an interview a few days ago) I didn’t originally intend for there to be such a wait between KHII and KHIII, I was working on other Kingdom Hearts titles that whole time, but fans just kept asking “where’s KHIII?”
Interviewer: (which you’d think would imply a degree of professionalism) Yeah it’s so great that now there’s a “legitimate sequel”

Wouldn’t it be great if we actually appreciated what creators did for us instead of complaining and getting angry at them for not totally conforming to our narrow demands in an abbreviated timeframe?

    It probably would.

I was expecting Square to do something involving Kingdom Hearts Unchained X, which they sort of did, making a more formal announcement of it to the Western audience, that was cool.

    Then they did this.

    So, um, okay.

That's definitely a new outfit. And what looks like the Star Seeker, possibly upgraded. And Flowmotion. And more dual gun Keyblade usage. And a pegasus-drawn chariot made from a Keyblade.

Also apparently that's a Tangled world they're showing, never seen Tangled but I have absolutely zero complaints.

I actually did pretty well on my joking wishes for E3.

    EXECUTE!

So I can now play as my first Mega Man in Smash. The only way this gets better is if they eventually add my favorite Mega Man too. As soon as the servers get a break I am downloading this at once.

I have this problem in regards to fanfiction where I think about the ridiculous ideas I came up with in my younger days with such undue fondness that I start trying to rework it and see if I can salvage the concept and redo it. So, story time!

(Oh gosh I really have to explain this I’ve been dreading this day)

For several of my BZP years, I was working on a long and convoluted series of stories known as Bioni-Lords. It started out as a story where Bionicle characters were Pokémon, but then I changed things so that, rather than sending out the Bionicles to fight, the humans would fuse with the Bionicles to gain their weapons/powers/etc. And then go and fight Gym Leaders while being hunted by a criminal organization. So, it still wasn’t all that different, really. As this coincided with the beginning of my weeaboo phase (gosh I hope it was just a phase), the scope quickly expanded and I began including “Bioni-Spirits” for characters to fuse with that were based on characters from just about anything—anime, video games, movies, books, and so on. (I also let other people submit Spirits, so at the time of the series’ cancellation the count was…1683? Dang. On the other hand, take that Pokémon! We got more!) The plot only got more confusing from there, with the sequel tossing in an exponentially larger amount of weirdness, and then I started on a prequel that…well, by then I’d like to think my writing had improved and it was decent enough, but then I got super discouraged thinking about the things I would need to do to keep that story in line with the overall canon I had decided on when I was 12 and concluded it would just be best to drop the story and dump all the ideas I was going to use into a few blog posts in case people wanted to read about them. So, that’s it, time to move on, right?

(Man there are some serious run-on sentences in this post)

…Well, okay, even when I was cancelling the series I still wanted to do something else with the concept. I tried simplifying everything as much as possible and seeing where that would go, and ended up with The Blade of Valor, which I then began to expand into The Kaita Legacy. Though, now I’m feeling like those might be erring too far on the “dark and gritty” side, so…I’d still like to finish Kaita Legacy, but maybe I should explore other options as well.

Honestly, a big part of the fun I had with Bioni-Lords was that whenever I got a new hobby or a new idea, I could incorporate it in some form and things would keep going. I thought of it as a “Fanfiction of Everything”, and while part of me feels like that’s innately off-putting, I still just…really, really want to do that again. (Especially with Bionicle being rebooted. It’s given me very targeted motivation.) Of course, even if I were to do that, I know I should probably drop that massive Spirit list and take a new, much more streamlined approach to things (limiting the list only to Spirits that actually show up in the story, at the very least). I could probably also drop the more Pokémon aspects—some of these I abandoned even in the story, things like fixed HP and attacks, they just really limit what you can do in a fight more than I usually liked to. Instead, it’d be better to just state what abilities and equipment a Spirit gives, along with maybe a few specific named technique, and see what the characters do with those. Or, maybe have a basic transformation for characters that can then be customized by adding the abilities and equipment of characters from various things? (Plus some original stuff, probably.)

(I mean…I don’t really want that giant list to go to waste, so I’ll probably preserve it separately from the new list I’ll have to make, even if I hide that old list forever out of shame)

And I mean, the plot will probably still be more like a long-running manga (both of the original Bioni-Lords books that I completed ended up having over a hundred chapters), so I’d probably just embrace that and try to come out with a (probably pretty short) chapter each week or something. That of course presents difficulties that will never go away (both from a time and writing standpoint), but eh, if I’m embracing the manga style, then that comes with it and I’d probably be okay with that. Besides, if I did end up doing something like this, it’d really be for myself, so, who would be there to complain? Course, then there’s the question of “why do all this writing if you don’t expect anyone to read it?” but, I mean, it’s still practice, I’m still writing, that in and of itself should be good. And I’m pretty sure it would be a better idea than that one Final Fantasy story I was also considering redoing.

(Come to think of it, since this time I know already that I won’t be sticking to Bionicle Spirits I should probably just put it in OTC. I mean, you know, if I were to do this. Hypothetically.)

I guess what I mean by all this is that the nostalgia blinders-induced motivation is evolving, I already have a bunch of brainstorming stuffed in a document, it seems it may only be a matter of time until I start a new ridiculous and convoluted Bioni-Lords successor, SAVE YOURSELVES.

Hello everyone! I am pleased to report that my sister and I have moved into our new apartment and the internet is already up and running, so I’ll be resuming normal activities for a bit before our upcoming vacation. (But more on that later.)

I was at work all day, so I didn’t get to move like…anything, and I feel sort of bad about that. But my sister, my dad, one of our friends, and someone my dad knows got almost everything over here, and we’ll finish up tomorrow and I’ll hopefully be more useful then. I don’t have to work again until Monday, so that should make it a little easier to settle in.

My sister is still over at our dad’s house so I’m spending the night alone. I’m a little nervous, but I’ll deal with that as it comes. I’m actually pretty tired so hopefully I’ll crash at a reasonable time and my brain won’t have time to mess me up.

So yeah, that’s pretty much it. New apartment get!

I know it’s still a ways off, but I’ve been spending too much of my Wi-Fi-less time thinking about E3, so to vent the excitement I put together a list of things I’d like to see happen this year, no matter how unlikely.

-Square Enix announces something The World Ends With You-related.

-No, really, some good news about TWEWY, that’d be really cool. And handled better than the initial release of Solo Remix, preferably?

-Square Enix announces a date for the NA release of Bravely Second: End Layer, and gives us some costumes we can get upon release. (Though this definitely wouldn’t include all of the costumes available in the Japanese version.) And maybe Bravely Second amiibo, that could be cool, probably?

-Square Enix shows a trailer for Kingdom Hearts Unchained X and announces the NA release date, plus some teasers for the next story update for X. (Also some info on the Unions please, I want to make an informed decision when I join.) And just for the heck of it, Kingdom Hearts figures announced for Disney Infinity. Even though that means I would need to buy Disney Infinity…

-…Alright, I guess it’d be neat to see a new trailer for KHIII, preferably with new story content and/or showing off Keyblade transformations. Kairi, Riku, and Aqua must all appear.

-Square Enix announces a Nintendo 3DS remake of Final Fantasy V. (Does not require New 3DS.)

-Square Enix does not do anything related to Final Fantasy VII. The fans riot, but that’s normal, so no one really notices.

-Nintendo announces acquisition of full rights to Mega Man, announces partnership with Keiji Inafune on new Mega Man projects including Mega Man Legends 3, a new Star Force (or a sequel series), and a new amiibo-compatible game that will be released alongside amiibo of every version of Mega Man. In celebration, Mega Man will be making cameo appearances in all Nintendo games released over the next year, as well as several games that are already out via DLC patches.

-Please Nintendo. Please rescue the super fighting robot.

-Nintendo announces the next Pokémon game, to be released worldwide either late 2015 or early 2016. Compatible with regular 3DS, does not require New 3DS. (Can you tell I don’t have a New 3DS?) Most likely a new Kalos game or new Kanto remakes, both of which could be really cool...of course I wouldn’t mind if they took the surprise route and announced Sinnoh remakes, eheheh. (Whatever it is we need new Mega Evolutions!) New information on Pokken Tournament is also released. And maybe a new Pokémon Stadium-type game for Wii U, that’s something that could be pretty fun.

-Though I don’t follow the series, I feel like it would probably be a good thing if a new Metroid were announced. Yea or nay?

-I mean there’s probably going to be a new Mario game or something. I don’t follow this either, but I want to get at least one of these right and this is a pretty safe bet. Not that there’s anything wrong with Mario games, of course.

-Reveal of new DLC fighters for Smash, ideally some I want to play as so I can complain about Nintendo taking the money I am hoping I will want to give them. It’s a weird feeling. Also maybe some good news regarding Smash amiibo, and sensible production and distribution of them in all territories.

-A sequel to Tomodachi Life is announced, because why the heck not.

-Also we really need an update to StreetPass Plaza’s Puzzle Swap. Pressing the d-pad 20 times to get to the panel I want is annoying, it would make more sense to put a grid-based navigation menu on the touch screen, I think. Also if we could be more specific when buying puzzle pieces with Play Coins, and, you know…not get duplicates…that would be pretty rad.

-There should probably be a Mother 3 joke on here somewhere, right?

-Sony announces a new, cheaper model of the PS4. I’m going to need one of those someday and I work part-time in a grocery store deli.

-And I mean Capcom is probably going to announce a new Street Fighter IV and nothing else, what the heck I’m already angry.

-New information on Steins;Gate 0 is released. Cool information. El Psy Kongroo.

-Lego announces a new game (RPG!) set on the island of Okoto, probably available on, like, all platforms. It’ll probably suck. I’ll probably love it. The game also includes an Easter Egg where you can listen to a remixed version of the Piraka Rap since 2016 is the 10th anniversary of that magnificent work of art. There will also be numerous, numerous things included to definitively prove that this is a reboot, and fans will still insist it is a continuation.

-Wow I know I put a good deal of bitterness in this but I don’t want to end on that, OH WAIT THERE’S A SECRET ENDING YAY

“Well, Wi-Fi’s officially off, guess I’ll go with my sister to Starbucks to see how much I made last week and see what’s going on on the internet. Yeah, may as well check video game news, probably noth—“

“Kingdom Hearts Unchained X, a smartphone port of Kingdom Hearts X coming to iOS and Android, definitely coming to North America, will release (in Japan at least) some time in 2015.”

    “…Today is a good day.”

"Why Pahrak. Why do you still have these. Why did you waste this much of your parents money and then still cling onto these things for 13 years."

"IT'S NOT LIKE I CAN SELL THEM OKAY WHY DON'T YOU FOCUS ON YOUR OWN PROBLEMS AND GET A NAME"

It’s common knowledge that Kingdom Hearts keeps using “new” characters that turn out to be new iterations of old characters, best summed up by that classic graphic explaining the series: “Everyone is Xehanort. Everyone else is Sora.” There’s even a point in the series where Xemnas (a Xehanort) taunts Sora (a Sora) about how all these other people made Sora who he is and asking if he is really his own person. Sora brushes it off, and I was wondering if maybe that line/idea could come back later, with Sora turning it around against Xehanort, and as I was wondering how that might or might not work I finally realized an important difference between the two.

The core of Sora’s situation is succinctly described when he decides to leave Destiny Islands again to kick off the plot of KH3D, saying, “I am who I am because of them.” Sora takes in a little piece of everyone he meets and grows because of that—he is influenced by so many other people and would not be the Sora we know if none of those people existed. Then we have Xehanort, who from the very first game has always been focused on finding new people to possess, finding others who he can turn into new Xehanorts. His reasons for this and how these plans have expanded can only be related through recent spoilers, so I’m going to skip over that for now and try to condense the point.

Sora allows himself to be changed by others. Xehanort changes others into him.

And I feel like this could be an allegory telling us that we shouldn’t force our own views on other people, coercing them into being more like us. Instead, we should take in what others have to offer, let them influence us, and grow as a person because of that interaction. I’ve seen people interpret Aqua’s storyline from Birth by Sleep as having a similar message to this, so it might not be coincidental that she ends up being doing better against Xehanort than Ven and Terra: both arcs might be saying that only someone who understands the benefits of having an open, receptive heart can stop someone with an open heart that aggressively seeks its way into others.

We’ll have to wait to see where Aqua’s character goes, but Sora has already accepted his connectedness and embraces it without hesitation. The scene I’m thinking of is near the end of KH3D so I don’t want to give too much away, but of the two Xehanorts who hear his declaration, one is baffled and a little frustrated, and the other seems unaffected and silently activates Final Boss Mode. The idea that these connections can be beneficial is completely lost on Xehanort, and I’m going to go ahead and predict that that is why he can never win. (You know, in the end. He’s definitely doing pretty well now.) Maybe it’s cliché and cheesy and whatever, but if a villain cannot comprehend a hero’s power, then there’s a pretty good chance that power is going to be their undoing; said power being some variant of “the power of friendship” certainly doesn’t hurt either. But, that’s a whole thing in and of itself.

My point is that I never fully grasped how Sora and Xehanort were being set up as opposites, and that the often-noted similarity does have a little more depth than is immediately apparent. And I thought that was kind of cool.

(Though I guess this doesn’t really account for those characters who were spawned from Sora? I mean he still encourages them to be their own person, but I don’t know?)
  14. Pahrak Model ZX
Haha remember when I started Shooting Star Sonia and I said I would try not to take too long between chapters and then didn’t get anything done with it since I posted the first chapter about two months ago

WELL, I finally finished Chapter 2! I have some concerns about it, but hopefully I’ll figure out what needs work as I keep going, and then I can always go back and revise later. This begins the episodic “Attack of the FM-ians!” format, and it also introduces the supporting cast and talks about/alludes to some backstory, both from the actual game and what has been changed. Also it’s a lot longer. Like, about twice as long as Chapter 1. Part of me feels like I should break it up a bit more, but each FM-ian episode provides a natural point of separation, so, eh, I guess most of the chapters will just end up being long.

Hopefully I’ll get Chapter 3 done sooner. Over the course of writing this last chapter I began to put more thought into characters and sub-plots, so I think I might be starting to pick up steam. I’ve also been considering marathoning the anime to give me some inspiration, but, who knows.

It was just announced that Akira Toriyama will be working on a new anime sequel to Dragon Ball, entitled "Dragon Ball Super", starting this July, confirming previous rumors that a new series was being worked on. Details are currently very scarce, but we have been told that the plot will be a short time after the defeat of Kid Buu; presumably it will follow the recent movies "Battle of Gods" and "Revival of F", both of which are set in that general timeframe and heavily involved Toriyama.

On one hand, this is huge news! Dragon Ball is one of the single most recognizable anime in history, and while the franchise was certainly never at a standstill, seeing it return to television is an unforeseen development that can help get a new generation hooked on it.

Honestly though there's a part of me that feels bad for Toriyama, who apparently thought this series was going to end long ago and seems to have accepted its fate as the eternal cash cow.

I really am excited, though. There was a plot point teased at the end of Battle of Gods that doesn't seem to be addressed in the new movie, so I'm hoping that Super will follow up on that. I can accept that there will definitely be new transformations--I will relish in them no matter how redundant they get, most likely--but I really hope the new movie's plot of bringing back Frieza isn't indicative of the arcs we'll be seeing. Bringing back old enemies for fights incredibly similar to their original arc is something that I'm just not really on-board with.

And of course, the last time we got a new Dragon Ball anime, people didn't take so well to it!

(I mean GT wasn't all bad, but I'm definitely not broken up that it's looking less and less canon with each passing year.)

A new fighter for Pokken Tournament has been announced!

If type immunity comes into play then this is a very broken fighter we are looking at. They probably won't, of course...though Gengar could still be broken who knows.

Personally I'm hoping the game gets representatives for each Generation and type, but it'll be awhile before we'll know about that. I'm just really excited, I want to play this game.
  17. Pahrak Model ZX
    But this is important

For starters, it looks like Bleach might actually be getting somewhere, so that’s nice. Also glad to see confirmation of that character’s status, and unlike a lot of “character avoided death!” reveals, this one could actually be interesting. A small amount of hope for Bleach has been restored.

The bigger news is that the Naruto spin-off featuring the next generation has started. Looks like it’ll run for three parts (not sure if that means three weeks in a row or not?), and Kishimoto did a thing that I have opinions about.

Also there’s a random kid with blue hair sitting next to Naruto’s son, so he might be important. Some people have compared him to the villain from The Last, which is…curious. Looking forward to see how that plays out I guess?

Looking back, I'm quite amused with how Square Enix announced the title of KH3D.

At that time, some of the most recent titles were "358/2 Days" and "Birth by Sleep". We had been told the meanings would be clear after we played the games, but they weren't, so interviewers ended up asking Nomura what they meant and he gave answers that still only made limited sense.

So then they announce "Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance", and they decide to just cut to the chase and say "the meaning we were going for is 'the distance you fall when you fall asleep', we know it's not grammatically correct but we went with this to get the three Ds in the title" long before the game is even out.

I just find that rather humorous.
  19. Pahrak Model ZX
Okay so I don’t talk about my personal life on here a lot, I like to be vague about it, but I’ve been feeling sort of stressed and the idea to vent some of it here won’t get out of my head. Stuffed behind spoiler tags of course. This is mainly for my own benefit so, you know, move along, we don’t need to see your identification and all that.
