You know, I really enjoyed making my dramatic reading of the Piraka Rap.

Logically this should be followed by a dramatic reading of Creeping in My Soul, but...Creeping in My Soul kind of already sounds like a dramatic reading, so I don't know if my version would really sound all that different.

    2007 was terrible.

I don't know what do y'all say, yea or nay?

Technic Coliseum Tournament 11 is live. We actually have a perfect number of fighters, so no one will be without an opponent at any point! Well...unless two people matched up against each other don't post strategies and both get disqualified, that would leave an opening...so, hoping that doesn't happen. Really hoping this Tournament goes well, because we need something to make the game interesting again.

Also, I've been thinking that to get myself more motivated for Bioni-Lords maybe I should write some...what are they called..."drabbles"? I dunno, just really short stories focusing on one or two characters. I'll try to think of some (I need some variety--everything I have right now is Zempyst and Aile). I'm also open for suggestions, so if there's anything you guys would like to see, feel free to mention it and I'll post them here in my blog.

Might as well also mention that my next semester starts next Monday. Not sure if there'll be a net loss in activity though, since I haven't really been doing much over break anyway.

I finally posted a new chapter in Kako! Kako 45 is online--46 is written, and I meant to type it this week, but I got a little busy. I'll try to get it up soon.

In related news, I also added a new Spirit to the Index who will become relevant in the coming chapters.

Also, the Flash Fiction Marathon seems interesting! I'm going to try and enter as many as I can, though we'll have to see how that works out.

Oh yeah, I need to pick new recruits for the Coliseum! Heading there now...

What a coincidence: I just got the Asterisk Guide caught up, and Square Enix gives us some new info, including a new Job! This newcomer is the Exorcist Job, which has the ability to go back in time and negate turns. This functions primarily by resetting the target’s HP to what it was up to three turns ago; other uses remain to be seen. I should be able to make a barebones Asterisk Guide that I can post tomorrow.

The remaining info was some fairly random bits. The staff members joked about how the localization team was going to have a hard time translating Amy Matchlock’s dialect; the reason Magnolia is fluent in English (in the Japanese version)/French (in the English version) is because everyone on the Moon speaks that language (haha okay); and EDEA IS CONFIRMED TO RETURN! No real details, BUT EDEA’S BACK THIS IS MRGRGREAT.

It’s funny because I was just wondering when we were going to get more news—the game is releasing in about three months and I feel like what we know about it is a little on the low side. I mean, of course they’re not going to detail everything pre-release, but…I love knowing things!

EDIT: Also there seems to be some bit about the rebuild the moon minigame. Like Norende, there are Enemies you can fight, but now you'll be able to use battleships to weaken them before you fight...? Apparently this (and the Exorcist Job) are going to be added to the demo so it should be clearer soon.

In Our Bones, The Third Break, is live!

So, this is the midpoint. Our main focus here is on the battle between the Skull Basher and a certain Protector. I tried to have Basher show some other ways the mystic art might be used, since that’s something I can expand on in the future. The consequences of this fight will lead directly into the climax, and there’s also a little hinting towards what will be delved into a bit more next week.

So, I still have a desire to do a new Technic Coliseum. However, I don’t really have the time or energy to do a full, long-lasting game, so I started thinking of simpler and shorter ways to run the game. The result is Technic Tournament!

Sixteen characters, four from each of the four relevant lines, have been selected. They will be randomly paired up, and round 1 will begin. (Each round will probably last about a week, I think.) The players each are given 20,000 Widgets (subject to change) when they sign up, and they will use that money to finance promotion for as many or as few fighters in that round as they want. (You can only promote one fighter per match, though; if Tahu and Stormer are fighting and you promote Tahu, you cannot promote Stormer that round.) Whoever receives the most money from promotion will win and move on to the next round, and the total money spent to promote both fighters will be divided equally amongst players who promoted the winning fighter. The one who wins the game is the one who has the most money at the end of the tournament!

The exact details of promotion are still being fine-tuned. What I’m thinking now is that there will be four types: TV Commercial, Radio Ad, Internet Campaign, and Magazine Ad. Each player will make a profile and rate how good they are with each type of promotion on a scale of 1-5, with their total “specialty points” adding up to 15. I’ll roll a die, and if it lands on a number equal to or less than your specialty in that area, the promotion is a success, and you add Widgets to the overall pot for that fighter. (I’m thinking Widgets added will be higher if you have a lower specialty, as a high risk high reward sort of thing.) There will also be a bonus if you use a certain type of promotion for a fighter from a certain line. (TV Commercial for Bionicle, Radio Ad for Hero Factory, Internet Campaign for RoboRiders, and Magazine Ad for Slizers) If you get the bonus, I’ll add 1 to your specialty for that roll, and you’ll get more money if successful (right now I’m thinking an extra 100x result). So, if you have a specialty of 5 in TV and decide to do a TV Commercial for a Bionicle fighter, you’re guaranteed to succeed.

Again, I’m still working on it, but I think this is going to be the basis going forward so I wanted to see if I could get any feedback. What do you all think of this? Would you be interested in playing? What would you recommend changing, and how would you change it?

(Also the character list is already decided on, so no suggestions on that front please!)

My Dad is trying to get us all out of our current house, so leading up to that, our Internet is going down Sunday night. I’ll still probably have some locations I can connect but won’t be able to as frequently until we get settled in our new apartment, so my activity might be a little lower in the near future. (Hm, now that I think about it, I really don’t post a whole lot, so maybe the change won’t be so noticeable?)

As for the apartment, we’re still working out the details on that, but progress has been made and I’m optimistic we’ll be out by Dad’s deadline at the end of May. Right after that, though, there’s an anime convention the first weekend in June, so I’m going to transform into my Ultimate Weeabo Form for a few days and that could extend the lack of activity, eheheh... (It’s like a werewolf deal, you can suppress the instincts well enough most of the time, but there comes a point where you’re forced to transform, except this is yearly instead of monthly.)

I’ll still have my computer, so amidst the moving I want to try to do some writing so I’ll have some content to post when I get back. I feel like I can pick up steam with Shooting Star Sonia if I push myself just a little more, and I’ve finally begun working on a new short epic giving backstory for Gen 2 similar to The Time of the Mask Makers, so hoping to present that sometime this summer. (The previous two paragraphs ended with parentheses so I wanted to do the same for this one.)

And then, when the time is right, we shall awaken and clean it all. It must be cleaned. Clean it all. It must be cleaned.

UPDATE: My sister and I have an apartment! We should be able to move in on the 22nd if nothing goes wrong, not sure about internet yet but it doesn't look too expensive and I already have a router, so if we don't have it up by then it probably won't be long after. I'm just so relieved, we officially have a place to sleep, and it's at a super-convenient location and doesn't look like it'll be any trouble really, today feels like a big win after a really annoying 2015 so far, thank you God. Time to pack!

I don’t do this often, this is weird, anyway.

I got a new job! A bit nervous about some of the specifics, but I’m excited, and really hoping that it’ll work out. I’ve had my…current? Former? Job for just about 5 years, which is a good number in my book and I have had more than enough of it, though I will miss several of my coworkers. I’m going for an orientation on Tuesday, and I should officially start the last week of May.

The thing is, I’m moving from part time to full time, and I’m not 100% sure what my new schedule is going to look like so I can’t say for sure how this will affect any projects I’m working on or thinking about. By “projects” I mainly mean stories of course, I haven’t done a game since, what…September? Yikes. Anyway my point in all this is, if anyone’s keeping up with my stories and it looks like I’m slowing way down, this is probably the reason why. I’m hoping to update Right of Law and SSS3 both at some point in the next two weeks, beyond that I just don’t know.

But I’m not going to go on hiatus or cancel anything, and everyone knows I’ve always had trouble getting things out in a timely manner, so it’s entirely possible that nothing will really change. On the off-chance something does, I wanted to give you all a heads-up. Later.

Well, time for the last one! Bioni-Lords Book 3: Kako Preview 5 is up, and with that, all the previews are posted. But, since the year is practically over, I think I'll toss out a few more bits of info you might be interested in...

--The underwater fortress used by the Black Tide and Verasu returns yet again.
--This time, we WILL be killing main characters
--Didn't Tabuu get his mind broken by the 10th? And there was something about his old partner being sealed...
--Think we'll find out where that mysteriously sealed book came from?
--Find out whose soul the 10th uses as a Blade, plus Norscu's first contract--the very first Blade of Souls!
--All of the Original Element-Lords will have at least a cameo. Some will have pretty big parts...
    --King. Bohrok. Cage match.
--Genakex said he wanted to see the 10th one more time to tell him something...what was it?
--Where did Krakha come from, and how did the 10th cast the Retcon?

Well, that's all I got for now. I'm looking at either January or February for posting the Prologue (which actually doesn't have any new text)...writing is going farily well. I'm on Po-Isle, Chapter 9, with the first reveal of the Shadow Consortium.

Right of Law, Section IX, is live in the Epics Forum!

This Section introduces several things, some of them big, some of them subtle, some of them things that were alluded to previously but are now begin somewhat expanded on. I want to shift focus for the next few Sections: the characters have won a moment to really sit down and process everything, though even now they're still working to prepare for what comes next, and I want to take advantage of that. The site of the next major conflict is picked out, but that's off in the distance still--more pressing is a much smaller antagonistic force currently on its way.

What you won't see in this Section is Krika, whose exploits in Civitas Magna demanded a bit of extra time to contemplate. I think that time is already paying off. So for now, enjoy Section IX! And then, look forward to Section X!

It has officially been 10 years since the release of the first Mega Man Star Force game (in Japan)!

I already went on about why I love this series a while back. In short, it's a sequel to my first Mega Man series (EXE), it's one of two that I was able to follow from the beginning (the other being ZX), it's fairly standalone so I don't feel like I'm missing a ton of references, and it has great character development not just for the main characters, but even a lot of the briefly-appearing characters you bump into along the way.

Also, I just like the character designs and general mechanics of the universe. Not every reason for liking something needs to be complicated!

Sure, I know it's not in the running for the greatest game series of all time, but still, I love it so much and it's nice to see some people celebrating it. Even Mega Man fans don't spend a whole lot of time talking about it, so it's a nice change.

Hopefully Geo will get a comeback as the anniversaries keep coming. Until then, I'm going to press on with my Star Force fanfic and keep my fingers crossed!

Looking back, I'm quite amused with how Square Enix announced the title of KH3D.

At that time, some of the most recent titles were "358/2 Days" and "Birth by Sleep". We had been told the meanings would be clear after we played the games, but they weren't, so interviewers ended up asking Nomura what they meant and he gave answers that still only made limited sense.

So then they announce "Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance", and they decide to just cut to the chase and say "the meaning we were going for is 'the distance you fall when you fall asleep', we know it's not grammatically correct but we went with this to get the three Ds in the title" long before the game is even out.

I just find that rather humorous.

On a more positive note, I received an email from GameStop reminding me that Super Smash Bros is releasing on Friday. It mentioned a few of the playable fighters, including "Greeninja." At first I thought "Oh, it's a typo, they mean Greninja," but then I wondered...what if it isn't a typo?! Could this be a leaked announcement of a new fighter?!

Now, most of you are probably thinking of Ninjago, but no, this is much more surprising. You know who else has a Green Ninja?

First things first, the fifth part of Beyond Ruin is up! Land, Sky, and Knowledge all make appearances, dealing with a new threat that has arisen due to the forces of magic reacting to the beliefs of the people. I mentioned this concept before and wanted to test out how it might apply to folklore.

I’ve been thinking more about it, and I think this sort of mechanic could have a big thematic impact. I feel like I might be getting a better idea of what this novel will be about! (If I ever finish it.) To go with this, I think I might use a different title for the novel. Originally I thought the major question brought up would be “What makes a person strong?”, which is why Divine Strength seemed like a good title. But now, that doesn’t really seem quite as fitting. I’m not 100% sure, but for the time being, the next working title for the novel is Divine Judgment. I’m not going to change the tags on the stories and collection just yet though—it might be confusing and I don’t want to do that until I’m more committed to this title.

On another note, I’ve been thinking more about the Queen of War and…well, I’m wondering if I should call her something else. I guess I’m concerned about what implications people might read into if I have a prominent world leader literally named War, and that might just be me overreacting, but I never am sure about that.

While most of the Queens embody elements, War and Knowledge are more like concepts, but War doesn’t necessarily have to be…well, war. The most basic form of what she represents is “growth through adversity”. You develop, change, and grow stronger by facing and overcoming hardships. War seemed like a natural manifestation of this for a medieval fantasy, and Queen of War just has a nice ring to it, I think, but I want to explore some other options.

Maybe Queen of Adversity? I kind of like that full title, but the shorter version might get weird. (“Adversity drew her sword,” “She turned to Adversity,” “Hey look at what Adversity did can you believe her?”) There was also that short story I did examining her titled Goddess of Evolution, maybe I could use that for her name as well? Queen of Evolution? Hm…Queen of Challenge? Queen of Resilience? I don’t know, I’ll keep thinking about it.

As always suggestions/feedback is appreciated. Hopefully I’ll have another part of Beyond Ruin up for you soon!

I use the term "epic" loosely.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but a while back I found an old Bionicle lore booklet and posted some of the interesting stuff that had been dropped from the canon. One such point was a mention of a mask missing from the Ga-Suva. I got really invested in this idea, so, after some tweaking, I wrote a brief story about it.

A Mind in Darkness follows Vhisola and Macku on their quest to reclaim Turaga Nokama's Kanohi Matatu. It will have four parts, and since I'm impatient in honor of BZP's anniversary, I'll post a new one every day until we're done! So, by Thursday it'll be complete. I'd be honored if you read it!

Also, I'm working on another project, but I don't want to say much about it just yet. Expect to see it in the Short Stories forum either late this week or next week. I'll make another blog post about it, so check back here if you want to see what it is.

And, of course, Happy Birthday BZPower!

An even longer time ago, on the mythical island of Okoto, there were two brothers who lived in the Region of Earth. Having been taught the ways of the forge by their mother and an ancient, mystical art by their father, each sought out his own way to be useful to the village—sometimes aiding each other, sometimes clashing against one another. One fateful day, one of the brothers discovered a way to combine the forge and the mystic, and created something that would forever change the destiny of the island…

    A Mask of Power.

The Time of the Mask Makers, The First Swing, is now live in the Epics Forum.

(It ended up kinda short but hopefully future parts will be longer, and I mean it kinda fits with G2’s storytelling right yeah it was totally planned)

Turns out my Letters From the Void got lost in the mail. What's worse is that while wandering the Void, I ended up in the Disgaea universe and got killed, so I trned into a Prinny. Being a Prinny is NOT fun.

But...back in the real world. I'm beginning to think that I'm going to have to push back the deadline for Sekai--it probably won't be done by the second anniversary. I'll try to finish it as soon as I can--Lost Continent 10, 11, and 12 are all really short, and I'm not planning to put too much on Volt-Isle. Draco-Isle...not entirely sure right now. And the ending arc will be long, very, very long...

I'm so sorry that there's so much in Sekai. It's overcrowded and it's just a mess, really. I'll do what I can to cut down the volume of Book 3, and Book 4 will definitely be shorter but might be a bit cluttered...meh, we'll get to that when we get to it. Speaking of Book 3, I believe that in an earlier entry I said I would begin dropping hints about it in 2011? Check back here some time in January if you're interested.

Back to Sekai, then--I have some free time this week, so I should be able to get a new chapter typed and posted. There is something else I'm doing with my computer time right now, though, so...Wednesday? Maybe? I do need to make some site edits, but I think I'll put those off until we get to Volt-Isle. Just some profiles, a few miscellaneous articles, and a Spirit or two, plus some updates to the Story Arcs page to keep it up to date.

But if you're not interested in Bioni-Lords, I have some other news. Remember the other story I announced on this blog? "BIONICLE: The Forgotten Bond"? I've been doing some work on it as well, and I'm just about to start Chapter 12. Right now I can't predict how many chapters it will take, but I garuntee you that it'll be shorter than a Bioni-Lords book. All of the villains are together and we're about to bring together two groups of heroes, and once that happens I can get on to the next few scenarios. This is also the point in development where I'm beginning to think up short story and sequel ideas.

Once Forgotten Bond is almost if not entirely finished, I'll begin posting it on BZPower, and after it's over and I see what kind of reception it gets I'll decide if I'll be doing any related stories. Part of me wants to begin giving hints about it, but I also want it to be a surprise...

Meh, no one's reading this anyway.

So I’ve been thinking I might want to run Technic Tournament 2 soon. My original idea was that future versions of the game would each have a specific theme in what fighters were involved, but now I’m thinking I should hold off on that—TT2 will be more or less the same as the first, just trying out some new system tweaks so that I can perfect the basics before trying any of the theme ideas.

As for what changes will be made, Nevermore gave me two suggestions at the end of the last game: that there should be limits on how many times a player can use each type of promotion, and that there should be more levels of promotion success than just “succeed” and “fail”. I want to implement both of these, probably like this:
-How many times you can use each promotional method depends on your specialty in that method. If you have a 5 or 4 in that method, you can only use it once per round. If you have a 3 or 2 in that method, you can use it twice per round. If you have a 1 in that method, you can try it three times per round.
-Like before, when you promote I’ll roll a die, and if the result is equal to or less than your specialty you will succeed. How much money you raise, however, will be determined by the exact result, with lower results giving more Widgets. So, rolling a 1 will give you the most Widgets no matter your specialty, but if your specialty is 1 than that’s the only way you’ll get any Widgets as opposed to getting at least some if you have a higher specialty.

I’m also thinking of reducing the number of points you can use in your profile. Last time it was 15, and now I’m thinking it’ll be somewhere between 10 and 13—as before, you can distribute these between the four promotional methods however you want, but one individual specialty cannot exceed 5.

Another idea was that, after the four rounds are done, there will be a Title Match where the fighter who won will go against Granite, the Defending Champion from last tournament.

There wasn’t a whole lot else I could think of to try out. Maybe, for the fighter going against the fighter who raised the most money in the previous round, they’ll receive a small amount of Widgets before the round even starts, to give them a headstart of sorts? Though that was just from trying to find a way to work in that cheesy subtitle I wanted to use, eheheh…

For anyone who might be interesting in playing Technic Tournament 2, what do you think of all this? Do you have any other suggestions? I’ll try to make at least a few more posts before I start it—last time didn’t have too many players, so I’m hoping I can do some sort of pre-release campaign to get more attention. And, to that end, why not give you the fighter list early?

That already covers all the RoboRiders (and then some), and I only need to do one more to cover all the Slizers, those pre-Bionicle lines are so small it’s such a tragedy

So I don't know if I've said it over here, but I have a pet parakeet! His name is Zazu and he is beautiful and smart and I love him.

He's been limping for about a week so I took him to the vet this morning, and it appears he has little to no feeling in his left leg. The doctor says this is likely a sign of a tumor. We have some medicine for him, though I doubt he's going to enjoy taking it, but unfortunately there really isn't a whole lot to be done and tumors apparently get parakeets after a few months.

If anyone has any spare emotional support lying around I'd really appreciate if I could borrow it. Also prayers, if you have those. Please.

I actually have something to show for all that downtime! Chapter 3 of Shooting Star Sonia is now live!

This one is much shorter than Chapter 2 (about the same length as Chapter 1); part of me worries that it’ll feel a bit anticlimactic after such a big chapter, but I think Sonia could use an easy win right now and I’m going to use that as justification.

I’ve actually also gotten a decent start on Chapter 4 as well, so hopefully I’ll be able to present that soon. Since Chapters 4 and 5 will be more heavily linked, I’m hoping I’ll be able to slide right into Chapter 5 and get that out soonish as well, but maybe I’m getting a bit ahead of myself. Okay, back to work!

You may remember The Gargoyle Knight, a Fanfic Exchange story I wrote starring the Makuta Antroz of the Melding Universe? Well, I came to really like it and brainstormed way too many ideas to cram into one short story, so I’ve decided to attempt a full epic set in the Melding Universe.

Right of Law will see Makuta Antroz face a severe moral dilemma, where she must either repeat her past mistakes or risk the safety of all of Spherus Magna. Section I is merely an introduction to this tale, but by the end I think you’ll see how the stakes can be just so high. I can’t guarantee any sort of schedule for this story, but I do have a lot of passion for it, and I’m going to do my best to harness that and stay committed to it.

I also plan to keep some handy information in the first post of the review topic—since there are so many differences between this timeline and the main one, not to mention this is my own personal take on this AU, I want to compile as much relevant data as I can in one convenient place to hopefully make it more approachable for readers. I’ll also be elaborating on certain things at the end of each chapter, to better flesh out minor points without sidetracking the story proper.

I know many fans didn’t care for the alternate universes that found their way into the story, but I do hope you’ll give this story a shot. I still think there are things from the later days of the story that have a lot of potential worth exploring, and while this story certainly won’t get into all of them, there are a few key points that I’m very eager to try my hand at. Aren’t you curious?

With the Pokemon anime changing to XY&Z a few days ago, I figured that would be the signal for some news on the next main series game. Nothing on that yet...BUT!

Apparently Pokken Tournament received an update, and included is a hidden boss fight against a Mega Evolving Dark Mewtwo!

I mean, since Mewtwo is super popular it made sense they'd show up at some point, but I don't think anyone was expecting it to be in the form of a corrupted boss thing. A lot of people are wondering if this means Mewtwo or Dark Mewtwo will be playable in the Wii U version, which would be pretty darn cool, but even if it just remains a superboss I'd still be totally cool with it.

Makes you wonder what other boss fights they're gonna add in...
