So much for the "weekly" part of my blog, right?
For this post I want to talk about the CCBS, which until a month or so ago, I really only had a casual experience with.

Now, I'm really enjoying it. Although it seems to be limited in terms of limbs and shells, the system itself has been surprisingly versatile to this Nut of Onua. After acquiring a few sets/parts from The LEGO Store and garage sales, and making a few Bricklink orders, I've managed to build a nice parts collection to build with. Currently I've made three finished MOCs (Including my Self MOC) and two which I'm still tinkering with; I hope to post pictures in BBC soon. I replicated the gear system from 2015 BIONICLE and incorporated it into one of my CCBS MOCs.

My favorite aspect, by far, of CCBS has been the ability to make sturdy, posable contraction figures which house gear functions. Both BIONICLE and Hero Factory had been lacking in that department for years. Having collected BIONICLE since the beginning, to me, gear functions have always gone hand-in-hand with the theme. I think that's why 2005-2007's sets were lost on my a little bit; they started losing that key element of functionality (and I don't count the yearly projectile weapons).
I've only replicated the gear-box and I'm already wanting to make more functional characters, so it will be quite exciting to make more when the new sets release with the actual part.

If I have any complaints with CCBS, it's the reuse of shells and chest pieces. I fully understand that this is partly an issue of cost and that re-using these parts allows the theme to grow in other ways, but after a while they start to look all too similar (even with all the recolored elements). My hope for the near future is that we can receive at least a new chest piece or one to two more armor shells to bring in some more options. Thankfully BIONICLE 2015 has already introduced some great new pieces to build with; I especially love the new shell clip-on part.

Here's to a happy MOCing future with CCBS; I'm sorry I didn't jump in sooner. Cheers!

    Hey BZPers,

After a while on hiatus I'm happy back on track here at BZPower! My goal is to have a fairly regular blog here, posting once or twice a week, and give my own commentary on news, sets, or anything Bionicle really.

Before I get to regular blogging, I should (re)introduce myself. I'm a life-long LEGO fan and builder who's favorite themes are Star Wars and, of course, Bionicle. I started following Bionicle from the first teasers in LEGO magazines and got completely hooked from the first comic book. After following both Kanohi-Power and BionicleZoneCommunity for quite a while, I joint BZPower shortly after the merge and have had a great time discussing, posting MOCs and writing in the Comedies forum.
Currently I'm still building with both LEGO System and Bionicle and I love my job working for LEGO Brand Retail.

I've seen opinions on both sides of the continuation vs. reboot debate for Bionicle 2015 and I just wanted to share my own thoughts for my initial blog post.

Before hearing that the new story was a reboot I was 100% Pro-Continuiation, no reboot for me. I wanted to pick up where we left off and get some new adventures with the old Toa. But then, of course, I heard the dreaded word: Reboot. "No! What about the Glatorian and Matoran? What's to become of Mata Nui? You can't bring Makuta back from the dead!" That's what was going through my head. I cooled off a bit, thought about it, and I realized I'm very much a pro-reboot person.

This relaunch is four years after the hiatus with a new development and story team, and as much attention to detail as new writers can bring to a story, there's so much that can go "wrong". The fan base is four years older and to an extend we've all had to move on. In that time we've all thought up our own ideas on what could or should happen next and I think those ideas could get in the way of really enjoying a continuation.

So with a reboot, we get a fresh start. New places, characters and stories to explore. We receive a degree of separation that lets us worry less about how Bionicle stacks up against what came before, but rather, lets us be constructively critical about what is to come. The new Onua isn't the old Onua, just like the recent Dark Knight Batman isn't the 90's Animated Series Batman; and that's awesome! Because at the end of the day, I get to rediscover my favorite character all over again and if I miss the "old Bionicle" I can re-enter that world any time I want to.

Since I work for the Lego Store in Annapolis, I had the opportunity of working at BrickFair this year helping to run the Lego table up on the balcony. We had a bunch of this year's sets out on display, including the Rebel Blockade Runner and Fire Brigade (which release on Sept. 4th!).

I got to go check out some of the displays, including BZP's table. The staff was great to meet, there were LOTS of great models on display, all just incredible. There was so much to see that, sadly, I'm not sure I got to give everything a good enough look. But the icing on the cake was that I was able to obtain one of the prototype pieces; the gun-metal Kraahkan!

The vendors were amazing as well. I bought some "Halo" pieces from BrickForge, along with a scooter and pigs. And from other vendors I scored an Order of the Phoenix Snape minifigure, dark-blue Han Solo legs and some printed Brickfair '09 bricks and minifigure.

An extremely fun day all around!

I noticed a new blogging feature on here from the anniversary perks. I wish normal members had the opportunity to blog; I would do it frequently.

I've had a big revival recently in some of the new sets. I bought Mata Nui and Ackar recently from the Lego Store in Annapolis, MD (where I work). Pretty cool characters, especially Mata Nui. I'm a little disappointed that his thigh pieces are so small, but they work with the armor, so I can get over it. haha.

We have the Toa Mata Nui there and they look pretty interesting. I may have to pick one up some time. Gotta love that golden Mask of Life! It's been a long time waiting for one of those, but thankfully Lego gave us one
