...not on a jet plane, sadly.

Well, unfortunately, just in time for BZP's anniversary week, I'm leaving for Colorado, so this is the only blog entry I'll have...

Goodbye, newbros with blogs, and enjoy it while it lasts.

EDIT:Oh yeah, and happy birthday BZP.
    Fly on,

got the SPACESHIP in the mail today and it was every bit as wonderful as advertised. surprisingly rare for LEGO movie sets, I couldn't spot a single error in how it compares to the one in the movie. As near as I can tell, it's 100% accurate.

Also got Flurr because she was interesting and stood out amongst the newest wave of mixels. She's a neat little build, though the eye placement is slightly strange.

I ordered the Flexers too but they shipped late due to them selling quickly enough for them to run out before they could ship my order; they won't come until Monday, when I will hopefully be able to right a grievous wrong and make their Max the eldritch creature it should be.

doing it this year hopefully. I missed it last year but the year before that was my best WriMo yet.

I'm going to take another whack at the novel I've been fine-tuning in my head. It has aliens, robots, preachy environmentalism, all hallmarks of my writing.

I even have a couple of concept paintings I did to get some actual visual ideas of what's going on out there.

Last time, I failed because I had bland characters in an interesting story. This time, I've got a mildly better idea who some of these characters are, and hopefully that will be enough to help carry the story to its completion at last.

This was originally supposed to be an interpretation of Mutran's Rahi/Matoran hybrid to fit the theme of Karda Nui for the LEGO convention things but its looking entirely too Rahi-like for that so idk what it is anymore. I'm pretty happy with it so far, though.
(i dont know why i felt the need to build something for that theme considering i dont have the money to send anything to the conventions anyway)

only took me about six hours off-and-on to complete my entry

oddly, that's more indicative of my impatient nature than of the actual quality of the comic, as I made sure it was only the ripest irony i could pluck.

went to a Caribou Coffee because i wasn't feelin' it at home and typed enough words for two days. Good to have a buffer for when the words aren't flowing quite as much. It also set up a good platform from which to launch a good chunk of the novel. The beginning should flow fairly well from here, even though most of it is likely terrible.

I'd post a link to what i've written so far but it has swears in it because im a naughty girl. idk i guess i could ask a staff member if it's okay if i say it has swears in it and warn people but PROBABLY NOT. that seems like a bad thing for staff to authorize. but maybe people can PM me for a link? Would that be okay? idk i guess its a little premature to ask people to read it and give suggestions but idk im happy to actually get off the ground somewhat

so yeah day 1 went well. hopefully i can keep these good vibes going and maybe i'll have a first draft done this year.

oh yeah here's the synopsis i typed up in like two minutes:

"A spaceship of humans looking for a new Earth crashland on the desert planet of Boulle 1722. After the captain is exiled to live in the desert, the crew is caught in between a vicious civil war between the two tribes of creatures that fight over the scarce resources of their planet. With their ship wrecked, the humans must decide how they spend their time on this planet, and in the process end up uncovering the secret of the planet's past."

Well, I've been rather spotty on this website for a while. Probably will continue to be for forseeable future. Apologies for the delay it lead to with the blog contest; that is all sorted out, and the winner is Hordaki. Really, with only two entries, it was pretty much a coin toss.

Haven't been up to much lately; mostly just been playing Final Fantasy XIV, which has been fun. Never been a serious MMO player, and here I am learning how to be a tank, and actually somehow succeeding. It's nice to have something to do.

Somewhere in here I gotta build something, send it off to the convention circuit. Probably gonna build a new crab.

I was so pleased with a bit of my writing today (that was mostly BZP appropriate, no less!) that I wanted to share it.

Granted, no one on this site has shown any particular interest in my novel, but hey, what the heck? Maybe someone will like it.

getting the hang of a new tablet so i decided to draw a Velociraptor colored like a chickadee, my favorite bird.

it's a very nice look for it. too bad they almost certainly did not look like chickadees.

I queued this up November 2nd for all us winners. I'm sure we all hit our goal, and even if we didn't, you did something bold this month. So, regardless, congratulations.

Unless you signed up and did absolutely nothing. In that case, the frick, dude?

it's two in the morning and i'm thinking about monotremes. like, dude, they seem so weird, but now that i think about it, they actually make complete sense with our current understanding of mammal evolutionary history. like, with our synapsid ancestors being rather reptile-like and egg-laying, it stands to reason that at one point mammals could have had fur and milk but still laid eggs.

of course, that there are still monotremes today works just fine with that understanding; evolution is a tree, not a flight of stairs. some monotremes went on to become marsupials, some of which went on to become placental mammals, but a small group of monotremes just stuck to the monotreme thing, because hey, they had no reason to change

and that's why platypus are so weird.

well, one reason why. still doesn't explain the venom.

    i need to sleep.

    BAC Comics!!!!

    10. i tried my hardest to make this list happen but it wouldn't. i simply cannot choose ten BAC comics that are the best because they are all the best.

this entry is a disappointment and what's more disappointing is that i'm posting it anyway.

hoo boy was today exciting! After a day and a half on assorted buses, I finally made it to BFVA for the first time. I met a large assortment of BZP friends, even going so far as to do what the youth these days call "hanging out" with some of them. I played Settlers of Catan and remembered why that game has almost destroyed my family (and as usual people ended up with far too many sheep). I took part in an early parts draft that ended as they usually do for me: I grabbed all those pieces that seem fun without grabbing many that are more universally useful. Still, it was a win, and I could at least build some little things like these with them. I also got to see my crab for the first time in a year, which is good because I have missed it a lot. (It's probably still the best MOC I've ever made.)

It's probably a bit anticlimactic that, after all this fun and excitement, what I looked forward to most was getting to sleep in a bed for the first time in two days. (Buses SUCK.)
