    In An Hour...

    I'll be heading off to the airport to go to Colombia for ten days. It will be pleasant to see the family again and relax and whatnot.
     
    If I have Internet there, expect an update and more crazy shenanigans. (I love that word. Shenanigans. Teehee.)

    It's Gone. It's Done.

    This is the sixth year that Summer for me sees its end.
     
    I use the capitalized Summer because, while the period between June and August is technically summer, Summer refers to the period from GMIF to the last day of BrickFair activities.
     
    I can't state how much Summer means to me. I leave physically spent and exhausted, but emotionally fulfilled in ways that shock me months down the line. Seeing people you only get to see once a year kinda does that to you, and especially when every moment with them is fun, or heartfelt, or silly, or just plain lovely.
     
    To other BZPers I met at BrickFair, I'm so glad we got to meet up! I'm terrible with names and usernames, so feel free to keep corresponding with me; drop me a PM, add me as a friend, whatever!
     
    Now I officially start preparing all the final details for my semester abroad, and also must have four events ready for Forensics auditions the day before I leave (August 30th).
     
    The fun part is done. The tough part is just about to begin.

    So Cloud Atlas was brilliant, and I cannot recommend the movie and the book enough. LIKE, GO WATCH/READ IT NAO.
     
    Bought a mini-megaphone that lets me replicate Bane's voice. It is way too much time, and it detracts from my time allocated to real life activities.
     
    NaNoWriMo began again! I'm writing a sequel to last year's novel, and hope to make it twice as long!

    Patriot Games 2014

    I've mentioned before being on the Forensics Team at George Mason University. Along with that comes a ton of other responsibilities, and this past weekend was an event that, quite literally, has shaped my life.
     
    In 2009, having moved to the U.S. only three months ago, I had been competing in this thing called Speech and Debate. I wasn't too sure about how I was doing, and whether this was for me. Then December rolled around, and I was told of the first national tournament we could attend, which was 20 mins away from us at a university called George Mason University. And so, in December of 2009 I competed in my first Patriot Games tournament. I should've realized then how magical the event was, because the Sunday of the tournament I saw snow for the first time in my life, on that campus, at that tournament.
     
    A year later, I decided after my second Patriot Games that I would go to the summer camp offered by Mason. After those two and a half weeks of camp, I was hooked.
     
    Junior year of Patriot Games I was lucky enough (I mean that literally, luck was the only factor that decided things), to not only final Impromptu Speaking (an event with about 200 students entered), but win. I still believe, to this day, that if it hadn't been for that I would never have been accepted on Mason's team.
     
    Senior year I auditioned for the team during my last GMIF. I got on.
     
    Freshman year of college, I got to host the tournament for the first time, which was kind of scary in itself.
     
    And a day ago we finished hosting the 11th Annual Patriot Games Invitational.
     
    It was weird to think that this little tournament helped me choose my college. Speech has opened me up to other perspectives and ideas, without which I would be a much more narrow-minded individual. I have made friends during camp and at the tournament that have been my friends and mentors for six years now, and I don't see those friendships fading any time soon. Patriot Games and GMIF have made me see that I want to give back to the community, helping me choose to major in Language Arts for Education and become a teacher (for those who have sneeze freely hand out MOCs at BrickFair, I imagine this didn't come as much of a surprise).
     
    I don't think I exaggerate when I say Patriot Games is magical. It has literally steered my life in one direction. Over 120 high schools, 60,000 Speech ballots (not counting debate), and a myriad tired high schoolers and college students, and I think it was all worth it.

    The Sandman

    I'm a big Neil Gaiman fan. But more than anything, I'm a HUGE Sandman fan. I think it revolutionized the graphic novel scene. I credit it with getting me back into an interest in mythology and religion in modern-day literature. I think Dream is such a cool character, and one day that will be my next costume/cosplay.
     
    So naturally I wanted to pay homage.
     
    Two years ago I brought to BrickFair this little fella (and the mosaic):

     
    As soon as that weekend was over, I viciously dismantled the mosaic and got to work on the new one. I've been going at it during this break, and this is how it looks like at the moment:
     

     
    I hope to have it finished by the time BrickFair VA 2015 rolls around.

    Hey all.
    So, first things first, the bad news: I've known for about a month now and hadn't yet made a Blag post because I didn't want to have to say it, but I won't make it to the Faire of Bricks this year :/ Four months back I agreed to go on an all-expense paid trip to South Korea with the university's Forensics Team to do some lectures and judge an international competition. As luck would have it, I found out three months after the fact that the dates would be exactly the dates of BrickFair VA. It looks like I might be back in the States by post-BrickFair Monday shenanigans, so I might be able to make that if jet lag allows.
     
    But yeah. Sorry y'all As much as that trip is fun, honestly nothing can be better than hanging out with awesome humans for a week, geeking out about LEGO and Galidor ('kay, maybe the latter is only a few of us).
     
    On the year-long absence from the site: Similar deal as above. Senior year hit me harder than Makuta's sleeping curse on Mata Nui, and from graduation to Senior year with the Forensics team to an... interesting tenure in Student Government to starting a Masters and getting hired at the LEGO Store at Tysons Corner, life has been far too life-y and eventful. But now that things are falling more manageably into place, I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things here and revive a few projects on hold since last year's BrickFair.
     
    Anywho, thus Zatth rose from the Shadow Realm to once again prowl BZP. Or something like that!

    to blow my mind in the cinema, just as the book has done. I've seen the trailer about 30 times now (talk about obsession), so I'm sure the movie will be wonderful.

    Yep, you heard right. George Mason University Class of 2017. I'm super excited, since I already know people entering, have a spot guaranteed on the Forensics Team, and got accepted into the Honors College.
     
    Also, I live 45 mins away from BrickFair VA, the campus is 10 mins away from BrickFair VA, so I know for a fact that attending BrickFair is still a definite yes in my future.
     
    College... Huh.

    There's a tower built by William the Conqueror, it's one of the two oldest buildings on campus.
     
    And it's a block away from my flat. I pass it on my way out every morning.

    So funny how many behave when a member says they have been taken by Life. Some members act as if that person is never coming back, others as if nothing. Sooner or later, they return. Plus, they always visit.

    Now that you're up-to-date, you have a chance in playing a part in this year's Omnibus. Not only will we be releasing waaaaay too many Vine videos this year, but you can choose what we do in one of them!

    I convinced Black Six and ChocolateFrogs to record a video while we were at Scouting 4 Bricks. I had footage. I edited.
     
    Now there's Elmo yelling fire, a new BZP t-shirt emblazoned with Black Six's words, and an uncomfortable zoom into a horrifying LEGO walking figure.
