So that's how the limited editions differ...

Curse the lack adequate documentation in those earlier years!

Yeah, I think these might be the rainbow cards after all. I haven’t had any luck finding the Quest for Makuta piece, which is a shame because I love that game, and would be interested in it myself. As for the silver letter limited edition cards, I have a spare set (might be missing Pohatu, I have to check). I’m just not sure what to offer since they were really tough for me to find (especially Kopaka).

If you decide to sell them, send me a PM. I don't have much to trade, just a spare Norik Hagah and quite a few of the Gahlok TRU promo cards, so I'll probably be paying with cash.

Never thought tracking down a game tile would be more difficult than acquiring an Aquart....

According to Mask of Destiny, what was shown in the ad was a Pohatu card. I can't seem to find anything else, though. Not even a scan of the ad...

Here's my copy of that issue, but weirdly it doesn't have that ad in it.

Huh. I have some German foil cards of the toa. Maybe those are the rainbow cards, and maybe they were only in certain languages of LEGO Magazine issues (they do that sometimes).

PS, these are actual rainbow tinted foil holo cards, not the silver letter ones from the limited edition packs (this whole time I kind of just thought they were misprints). If these are the rainbow cards, and if you’re interested. I found mine in the ebay tab here on BZPower. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TC-Lego-Bionicle-Sammelkarten-alle-6-Elemente-Holo-Die-Suche-nach-den-Masken-/352048972077?hash=item51f7c1012d:g:~VIAAOSwt0FZDIxl

I'm seeking out the 6 Toa cards from the Limited Edition Packs of the Quest for the Masks card game, in addition to the "Rainbow Trading Card" that was offered as part of a bundle in 2002. I am also looking for the promotional replacement tile for the Quest for Makuta board game. Biosector01 claims it was offered in an issue of a Lego magazine, but I've come to believe that it was actually distributed on the 2002 Power Lies Beneath tour.

Do you have photos or info links for the Rainbow card or Promotional board game piece? I can’t find anything about them other than biosector’s thing saying the promo game tile existed. The rainbow card isn’t even on the brick shelf gallery of cards... I can keep an eye out if I know what i'm looking for.

I don't have anything on the Rainbow Card beyond it being mentioned as part of an offer in one of the comics. I think it was one from 2002, but I don't know for sure.

As for the alternate tile, I have found images of it.

Interesting. Do you know if the card came in one of the comics, or was there just an ad for it in a comic? I have all of the Bionicle comics, so I can check to see if there’s an add for one. And I have a lot of Bionicle cards, but I would need to know what the rainbow card looked like, or at least a name or number or something...not even sure if I have it, but I might.

After a bit of searching, I found a news article from 2002. Apparently the offer was actually in the March/April 2002 Mania magazine, not the comic.

There's a fair chance that the rainbow cards were just extra stock of QFtM foil cards they had around once the line had retired, especially if it was in 02, when the games upper deck had out for bionicle consisted only of the cards you could get in the theme decks.

Any idea what the foil distribution was like? From looking at the brickshelf gallery, it seems like it's just random kanohi and mission cards.

  6. I've been trying to get the '03 and '04 mini CDs to run on my computer, but I've been unable to. My operating system's currently Windows 10. I've tried to run them as administrator and I've tried troubleshoot compatibility, but neither works. Anyone know how to get these running?

  7. I don't bother justifying it. I'm not going to claim that my shelves of Transformers and Bionicles are 'collectibles', cause they're not. They're toys, and the only difference for me is that now I'm a bit more careful with them.

Okay, maybe a couple of the Transformers were sold as Adult Collectibles, but that's beside the point.

  8. Burning all the things.

In all seriousness, I snagged a PS2 in December, and started playing through Kingdom Hearts. Attempting to write an abridged series. Writing a RWBY fic. Needless to say, trying to balance all these and school means nothing gets done.

Also, working to build every background rahi in G1 that no one else bothered with. I managed the Electric Spider for QftT, but hit a brick wall with the Fikou Nui.

I knew about Jaller Inika and Nuparu Mahri (though as far as I'm aware no images of those versions exist), but this is the first I've heard of Metru and Krekka prototypes. You've got me curious about them now.

The Metru were what the comics were based on. Upon review, it looked like Nokama and Whenua had slightly different builds than the others. The only image I could find with those two was a group shot with the rest, with Krekka looming over them.

    http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/bonesiii/Bionicle/prototype_krekka.bmp

He was symmetrical at some point, it seems.

Biosector says that's Krekka without a source but it's just as (if not more) likely that it's a Vahki mockup, especially considering a Vahki is what's there in the final image.

This is a pretty complete archive of prototypes we have pictures of. None of the stuff you're asking for is in there I don't think, unfortunately.

That makes sense, the colors even line up, but the build looks to complex for a canister set, and the arms bear a strong resemblance to Krekka's right arm...

Also, I don't need pic of Nokama and Whenua anymore. I was curious about the fact that in the comics, they seemed to have slightly different torso builds, which I assumed was a relic of the prototypes. After reviewing the instructions, I see that they are indeed built differently.

  11. After going on a nostalgia binge, I was struck with a question.

Has anyone ever seen the Jaller Inika prototype?

I know about the early Inika prototypes, but I'm asking about the one that allegedly had two Energized Flame Swords that Greg used for reference. This led further down the rabbit hole, and I began to wonder about Nuparu Mahri' Aqua Blaster Blade. Then the Toa Metru and Krekka.

So my final question is this:

Does anyone have photos of the following prototypes?

    Nokama Metru

    Whenua Metru

    Krekka

    Jaller Inika

    Nuparu Mahri

    Any help would be apprieciated.

  12. I was on there a few times before I found this place. I've always been more of a lurker, with short bursts of posts every now and then. Funny thing is, I still remember the first thing I put on that board. The topic was which Barraki would win in a fight. My post was "Ehlek, because he has an army of eels."

Needless to say, 9 year old me didn't know the other 5 also had armies.

  13.

    1. Yes

    2. It provides a pin hole for the upper pin on the chest armor. It's in another photo, it just blends in with the torso.

    3. What gray axle?

    3. In the "Makuta Hammer" photo, there appears to be a gray axle underneath the silver claw piece of his hammer.

    4. What size bone pieces are Makuta's legs? Is it this one: http://brickset.com/parts/4593553, or this one? http://brickset.com/parts/4593555 The former is the long leg pieces used on Tahu Master of Fire, and the latter are used as Scarox (from Hero Factory)'s arms.

    3. I'm assuming you mean this:http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=6587&idColor=85#T=C&C=85

It is dark tan colored, not gray.

    4. The second link isn't working. It's the third smallest bone size in total.

  14. I have 3 questions regarding the parts and the build.

    1. Is the black pin seen on the image labeled "MMM Side view" This part in black? http://brickset.com/parts/design-32054

    2. And if so, what purpose does it serve, as it is never seen on your other photos?

    3. What size is the gray axle used in Makuta's hammer?

    1. Yes

    2. It provides a pin hole for the upper pin on the chest armor. It's in another photo, it just blends in with the torso.

    3. What gray axle?

  15. What was the ending?

If you're referring to the alternate tile, you have to go to a 'secret destination' after besting Makuta.

    The potential destinations are Ta-Koro, Ka-Koro, Ko-Kini, Ko-Kini, Le-Kini, and Le-Koro.

I really loved how the tiles could be arranged to form Mata-Nui proper.
