Ded10c
Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted on this forum and a lot has changed. 0.0I loved Hero when it was first released all those years ago, and got thinking recently... what would they sound like together?Since I don't have access to the multitrack files Dial Zero would have had when they mixed the originals (which would be amazingly useful), I'm limited to mixing using just the two versions that were released to the public - and that limits my creativity heavily. I can't drop individual tracks in or out, for example - it has to be full-on all the time. I also can't apply any effects such as EQ, reverb or delay to any of the tracks without muddying the overall mix and making it sound horrible. When mixing, I found the tracks were remarkably different in ways other than the obvious; the first and original version which LEGO rejected is quite trebly and bright, almost a shiny mix, whilst the newer and released one is darker and bassier, ultimately leading to a slightly duller sound. Mixing them together produced a very full sound that feels a lot more complete to me, almost as though the two tracks were always supposed to go together in one way or another. The one issue I have spotted so far is a slight mistime in the double-tracking of the vocals at the beginning. The reproduced mix can be downloaded here. UltraHau
Oh wow. That sounds amazing AHadley - keep up the good work I did notice the vocals didn't overlap perfectly, but it's almost perfect overall - 4.9/5 to you :)By the way, I didn't know there was an initial, rejected version of Hero - is it available somewhere? Phyoohrii
Honestly, I don't remember either versions of that song that well, but the mix you created sounds really nice. I just had a quick listen to the start of each, the rejected and new versions, and I can see what you mean, with the treble and bass. In any case, it's a great combo, works really well. Also, thanks for the heads up that AIK are also known as Dial Zero, maybe. That's bugged me for years, why we couldn't find anything by them. Might go looking around to see what they've doneBy the way, I didn't know there was an initial, rejected version of Hero - is it available somewhere?I dunno whether it is, last time I checked the BIONICLE Music project it wasn't there, but for convenience's sake, here you go. Ded10c
Yep, took me ages to find out that AIK are now known as Dial Zero, but they are most certainly the same guys. A quick google of an old track name with their new name should confirm it. Also, for those who don't know it, they also produced a track called "Be No Monkey" for LEGO, which was used in one of the Racers games.I might do the same for Caught in a Dream (which also had two releases) when I have the time, but that's made more difficult because both versions are at a different speed. I was trying to do the same with a NIN track last night (Hand that Feeds) and it's so much harder.I'd link you to the rest of my work, but I can't link directly to it. Google "ahadley23 white silence" and you should get it.
Stroxx
Woah. Just WOAH! 0:58 is really powerful. 8D This really does sound more wellrounded. Really, I don't think the mislap is noticable at all. It's just. Powerfull. It's like that single malt whisky mum likes drink on holidays. Wellrounded and lingers. 8D Quote New pages are up! Ded10c
The guitars at 0:58 came out awesome, shame the drums are so terrible. The snare and kick slip out entirely. Yet somehow the cymbals stay in.
