Black Mesa is a completely fan-made moderator-ish thing that basically recreates the first game with updated graphics, the newer Source Engine, etc.

 

Aside from how much the first game is loved, Black Mesa is notorious for how long it has taken to complete. Several times it was assumed to be cancelled simply because of lack of updates and such. It basically became HL2: Episode 3's twin sister.

 

The difference here being that, suddenly out of nowhere, they're finally gonna release it soon.

And by soon, you mean yesterday.

Because Half Life 1 is awesome, this was built from the ground up as Takuma said, and it was even expanded, from the looks of this train ride. =D

 

It's kinda like TF2 in it's release cycle, if what I read is correct, and my memory is correct. =P
