Me and You and Every Elemental Robot We Know

So. I guess today (or tomorrow in this timezone, but whatever) is the day. NYCC. News. Official media. Maybe even some story. (I know, I know. Leaks. Let me make at least some pretense for playing by the rules.)

I realized something weird the other day - my posts haven't been super up on the whole thing. I played skeptic for quite a while (Mak, anytime you want to go edit my posts to add a crow-eating postscript, be my guest), and when the official official word came down, I pretty much just offered a one-liner before heading off to work.

So to be clear:

I am pretty darn excited.

That's really what it boils down to, you know? I understand that whatever it's going to be, there's going to be some pretty heavy differences from the original run. I understand that it's 2015, not 2003, and BZP isn't going to be the massive, overflowing forum it used to be. (And that's a good thing for a number of reasons.) I understand that I'm a dozen years older now, and well out of the target demo.

But I'm still just - excited. I love this stupid elemental robot world. It was my first fandom, and BZP my first forum. I went away for a while, I came back at the worst possible time, and somehow I still got drawn back in. I've seen so many good people in this fandom - artists, game creators, RPGers, writers, a linguist or two, theorists to knock a Doctor Who fan dizzy, and just generally good folks - and I've seen so much good stuff come out of it. It really did help keep the line alive in its own way.

And BZP? You're pretty good too. There have been ups and downs, that's for sure. (If I ever see the phrase "blog controversy" again - well, I'll probably just offer up a silent thanks that I'm a Forum Leader and not a Blog Leader, but besides that - it'll be too soon.) But I like you all. I hope you mostly like me. Last week I got to meet some of you in real life for the first time, and it was a blast. (I'd love to be in New York meeting a few more right now, but, well, we can't always get what we want. :P)

I can't say how things are going to turn out in the next few years - nobody can. But I like to think it's going to be good. Not just Bionicle - though, I mean, here's hoping - but everything around it. You all. The Bionicle tag on Tumblr. YouTube videos ranging from informative to just plain bizarre. Overly-detailed TV Tropes pages. BS01 and the world's most headache-inducing renaming job. Everything, basically.

You know, when I say it like that, maybe it's not even going to be good.

Maybe it's going to be great.
