Caught up on Korra

OH MY GOSH, LIN HAS A SISTER AND I AM HOPING THE FATHER IS SOKKA!

Okay, I got that out of the way.

"I knew it! You did have a secret thing with Haru!"

And that...

But, yeah, the fact that neither of them knew their father seems to be... well, strange to me. Maybe she had a husband, but they split up after her sister was born? I dunno... At any rate, the protagonists apparently weren't the greatest parents in the world. And now I wonder what Sokka's family, if he had any besides Lin's sister would be like?

Also, more airbenders courtesy of politics gone wrong via Earth Queen. Seriously, the Earth King seemed really chill and cool. How did he raise that? HOW, I ASK YOU?!

Also, I would love to visit Zaofu if I ever could travel into the Avatar Universe. I mean, sure, brooding teenage hipsters are making their versions of "modern art" but did you see that dance rehearsal? Also, that culinary meal along with the architecture and general design and themes were fantastic! It seems like a very modern, very artistic sort of place. It's a very different vibe from any other location in the series we've seen thus far in my opinion. I can dig it.

Also, Avatar has hipsters. We went from medieval era bending and stuff to hollywood in the 20's and now we're in hipsterism modern day within around one to two generations. The world of Avatar develops significantly faster than our own. By the next avatar, they'll have smartphones and internet powered by spirit vine mumbo jumbo (Everything is connect as learned in the swamp episode. All they need is to tap into this and presto! Instant creep technology!)

Also, can I just say these villains? BECAUSE THESE VILLAINS! 8D I know they really haven't done too much as of yet, but oh my gosh, hype. So. Much. Hyyyyype. ;u;

Okay, so... Not saying this will be the best thing ever, nor am I saying it will be better than season one of Korra. That is yet to be determined and it all depends on how things progress. Even so, I am sooo psyched right now. ^^

Seriously, this show and its creators are pretty wonderful at storytelling in my opinion. Really cool and developed characters, interesting and unique world locations, intriguing and intimidating villains, mature subject (even if just glossed over at times) and good comedic timing and humor to boot (even if a bit too juvenile in certain moments).

Also, can I just say that I love how they handled romance in this series compared to the last one? I know Spirit of Competition wasn't a fan-favorite, but I love what it did. It got everything out in the open and allowed relationships in this show to progress forward and develop instead of lingering on and on for four seasons. Like, I understand why Katara and Aang were the "will they/won't they" couple because it did fit with the story, however those romances are always the most frustrating thing in the world for me (especially when they don't get together over the stupidest reasons -glares at Firefly-). Don't get me wrong, though, Katara and Aang didn't start dating sooner because they were in the middle of a war and they ultimately needed to focus on saving the entire world, which was huge. In this series, though, the stakes aren't always as high (until the plot develops and later it's revealed the world is at stake). I mean, how awesome is it that Korra and Asami could date the same guy, kiss him while the other is dating him, and then still be mature enough to be friends without any fighting or drama? Not for nothing, but I love it that they can be that mature about their characters.

Anyway, I'm in a love/hate situation with Bolin. He has such good comedic timing, and then he turns around and does something stupid and cringe-worthy and he loses respect points from me. When he was hitting on Opal, I wanted to smack him. WIth a rock. A big one. Sooo big that we are just insects by comparison. Boom. Crunch. (#intothewoods)

As for Korra, I like how she's making more tough calls on her own. Also, can we see more of the biker gang that was stealing the Earth Queen's tax money? I want to see more of them, even if just a brief cameo. XD (That guy with the green highlights was just... I mean... dang.

GET OFF MY LAWN!

I'd like to be caught up, but annoyingly Nick isn't putting the episodes online like they did for the last two seasons. Haven't four or six episodes already aired so far?

It's five episodes.  And, yeah, I don't know why they're not posting them online anymore.  =/

Right now I have access to a DVR, so I've been recording them, and I just caught up with the past two episodes today.

Yeah, it got cringe-worthy when Bolin started getting creepy... but that got nipped in the bud pretty quickly.  And this is after he took advice from Mako on relationships, which is never a good idea...

Zaofu and its people sound really cool, but almost too perfect, so I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop and find out that they're all really evil after all.  :P  But yeah, can't wait for more!

Yeah, it seems Toph really gets around. Apparently she's traveling the world in search of "enlightenment", but I wonder how much of that is really just her inability to settle down and take time for her family. She did have a pretty messed-up childhood, though maybe not quite as bad as Zuko's. Unlike the rest of Team Avatar, she started traveling the world in order to run away from her problems, and it's beginning to seem like she was never quite ready to stop running.

I'm going to guess that the Earth Queen may have just been spoiled. Let's face it, the Earth King was not the most competent ruler, and he probably wasn't the most competent parent either. It doesn't entirely surprise me that Aang restoring power to the royal family didn't solve all of Ba Sing Se's problems.

I really like Bolin just because he's so naïve and optimistic despite having so little practical knowledge. His attempts at flirting are all amazingly hopeless, he's a terrible judge of character, and he generally gets himself into all kinds of trouble. Obviously none of those traits are admirable, but they definitely make him a great comic relief character and a great foil to Mako, who is more responsible but also generally much more conflicted.
