Obligatory Avengers Entry

So saw the Avengers tonight. I agree, it was totally awesome! (Granted, 3D didn't seem worth it, but 3D never is.) I gotta say, there were some twists and turns in here that I wasn't quite expecting, and some good bits of comedy. And while all the characters got decent screentime, I do have to say that I liked Iron Man the most. :D

Anyway, for some spoilers, and I really mean it this time, I'm going to spoil the movie, so if you haven't seen it don't open this, and if you have and you respond make sure to include spoiler tags too!

First off, I'll compare it to the spoilers I already knew about the movie... AKA the Lego sets. :P

Captain America did not have a fancy motorcycle in the climatic fight scene. The set shoulda just included some Nazis and not the strange alien creatures.

Iron Man did not chase Loki and Hawk Eye in the truck. Also, I was not expecting Hawk Eye to be evil for about the first half of the movie. Yes, they made it work well in the plot, but still, wasn't expecting it.

Quinjet and Hulk Escape were relatively accurate to the movie, I guess. But I couldn't help but feel that some other sets could've been made. Stark Tower would've been completely awesome; not even the full thing, but just a playset of the top floors where most of the action happened. They could've had exploding floors and windows and everything. Another cool one would've been SHIELD Headquarters. Granted, the Hulk Escape set kinda takes place there, and a full set probably wouldn't do it justice. But a mini set of the airship... that would be cool.

As I mentioned earlier, Iron Man was still the star of the show, but the others got some good screen time, even the "non-heroes" like Black Widow and Hawk Eye. And I really liked the Hulk's human guy... never saw the latest Hulk movie, and generally I don't like the Hulk, but his character was great. And the Hulk also got a couple of great comedic moments in the final battle.

Loki himself was good, and a great extension of the last movie he was in. Thor was... well, kinda meh. He beat up people, yay. But I thought Loki was a better developed character in the Thor movie, and the same here.

Also, lots of explosions, fight sequences, ext ext. I also liked the role SHIELD ended up playing... in my previous experience (Spiderman and XMen shows) SHIELD was always kind of part way between good and bad... and that's how they ended up appearing here too. :D Although Nick Fury blowing up one of his own jets was a good scene. (But he wasn't in the main fight, so why was he pictured there on the promos??)

Also, the Amazing Spiderman Preview at the beginning was also totally awesome, and IMO is looking much better than the previous movies. Hopefully less Peter feeling sorry for himself and more wittiness. (Although the whole self esteem issues Peter has does make him a much more relatable character and one of the reasons I prefer Spiderman over many other heroes... but still, it felt like some of the other movies took it to extremes.) Also, great line. "Oh no, you found my weakness, really small knives!"

You have to stay to the VERY end. even after the scrolling credits. It's a pain, but totally worth it.
