The LEGO Movie: Characters

Hey guys so yesterday I finally saw The LEGO Movie!

Everybody: We’ve already seen it!

Okay, so much for just bragging. Anyway, I was planning to do a short review of how well the various sets were incorporated in the movie, since previous movie tie ins (Iron Man III) were pretty bad. But there were so many Lego Movie sets that some would surely get more screen time than others. Except. . . well, Brickset already posted an article on that. So instead here’s a not-exactly-comprehensive list of all the characters who appeared. Wow, that turned out to be quite long. . . Oh, and in case it wasn’t obvious, SPOILERS!

• Emmet: Yeah, he had some lines

• Emmet with stud on leg: I didn't actually see where they got him with the stud, but I noticed it later during his speech.

• Hard Hat Emmet: He really only wears the hard hat during the construction scenes

• Mexican Hat Emmet: It's a funny disguise that he's in for a bit in the Wild West

• Pajama Emmet: He's in this at the beginning when he wakes up

• Wyldstyle: Yeah, it turns out she was a lead! I wasn’t too impressed with her character in the trailers, but they made her well rounded in the end and not just the pretty face, which is great.

• Wyldstyle with Hood: She had her hood up in her earliest scenes.

• Wild West Wyldstyle: She was actually in this dress for most of the pre-chase Wild West scenes, but changed out of it quite suddenly.

• Vitruvius: He was indeed there. Based on some of the early descriptions, I guess I had too high of expectations for how funny and ridicules he’d be, so in that case I was disappointed, but he still had some great scenes and did the whole “wise mentor” act well.

• Lord / President Business: He was the main baddie, actually, and actually had some decent characterization.

• Bad Cop: He had a pretty big role, and a hilarious habit of kicking chairs.

• Scribble Face Cop: Only shows up this way at the very end. I was expecting Emmet to draw his face, but I guess this works too.

• Batman: This was definitely an interesting Batman for sure.

• Benny the 80s Space Guy: He's totally one of the best characters. I loved the scenes he was in, and although I thought they gave him an adequate amount of limelight, more would never hurt.

• Metal Beard: They did a good job with his character, and despite being a bit of a loudmouth, he seems to be one of the most powerful ones there.

• Uni Kitty: She was a fun character, with great scenes in Cloud Cuckoo Land and in disguise at President Business's office. But Benny was still better IMO.

• Deputron: He's seen with the other robots chasing Emmet in the Wild West

• Executron: I believe there were lots of robots dressed like this in the office scenes. Don’t remember him in Cloud Cuckoo Land however.

• Robo Skeletons: They were part of the attacking forces, yes.

• Robo SWAT: Oh yes, there were LOTS of these guys, in all their various outfits.

• DJ Robot: Seen once in the radio station room as President Business walked around his tower.

• Sheriff Not-a-robot: He was the first one who recognized Emmet in the Wild West

• Calamity Drone: There was a non-robot version of her when Emmet first arrives in the Saloon, and then the robot version chases him with a gatling gun.

• Velma Staplebot: Goes over President Business's schedule once in his tower, and appears menacing in a flashback,

• Wiley Fusebot: He's the one who blows up Vitruvius's door in the Wild West, but I don't recall seeing him in the following chase.

• Superman: Seems to be one of the most competent Master Builders and tries to fight back while the others do nothing.

• Green Lantern: Besides being funny with Superman, I am really angry that they gave a minor role to a fig who was only released as an exclusive. Seriously, LEGO, you need to release him now!

• Wonder Woman: She had a few minor lines during the Master Builder fight, but besides the Invisible Jet line, nothing of interest

• Abraham Lincoln: Besides his great line from the trailer, he only appeared briefly in the fight at the end. I was wishing he would have a slightly larger role, but oh well.

• Green Ninja: He had no actual lines, but he made quite a few appearances with the other Master Builders, so I guess he can show up in a set.

• NBA Figs: They were actually the ones who did any building outside of the main characters during the Cloud Cuckoo Land battle, and also demonstrated that the Robo SWAT had them outgunned.

• Marsha the Mermaid: She had one line pointing out the tracking stud on Emmets leg.

• William Shakespeare: He had a few lines in the celebratory finale, and I think he appears a few times with the master builders during Emmet's speech.

• Gandalf and Dumbledore: A nice inclusion, and they played a little gag with them, but D's voice was just not fitting IMO.

• Cardio Carrie: She's a master builder. . . or at least was at their meeting.

• El Macho Wrestler: I think he had a few crowd scenes in Cloud Cuckoo Land, but that's it

• Panda Guy: He never actually said anything, but he appeared in the background a few times in Cloud Cuckoo Land.

• Johnny Thunder: I only saw him once fleeing from the robo cops in Cloud Cuckoo Land. I don't see how this is enough to get him in a set, but okay?

• Flash: He made a few brief appearances in the flashbacks (haha, pun) of Metalbeard's crew.

• Frank the Foreman: Some of the construction workers were highlighted talking about Emmet, and I think Frank was one of them. . . But the one name I remember was Harry and he isn’t here.

• Gail the Construction Worker: She had a few lines claiming she doesn't know Emmet when he remembers her. Emmet seems saddest that she doesn't remember him, which I'm gonna say reinforces my theory that he had a crush on her early on.

• Larry the Barista: Besides selling overpriced coffee in the first scene, he also is interviewed and doesn't remember much about Emmet.

• Plumber Joe: Appeared in the beginning when Emmet is greeting people, and probably later flying his van

• Mrs. Scratchen-Post: She has a few good scenes with her cats, both in the first city scene and the final battle scenes.

• Where's My Pants Guy: He got to repeat his “Honey, where are my pants” line a few times on set, but that was it.

• Sharon Shoehorn: She was on the Where's My Pants set every time that showed up, but she had no lines

• Blaze Firefighter: Actually got some screen time piloting his firetruck mech

• Ma & Pa Cop: They had some lines when Lord Business glued em, and I think they might've made a brief appearance at the very end.

• Blacktron Fan: He seemed to appear a few times in the crowd during Wyldstyle's speech in the third act

• Executive Ellen: I don't remember seeing her in the film, which is a shame, but I know she appeared in the background during some of the trailers, so she was probably there. I wanted her to be a rival of President Business or at least a high ranking member of his organization, but alas she’s just a face in the crowd.

• Fabuland Fan: She appeared in crowd scenes during the beginning city scenes and in the end during WyldStyle's speech.

• Gallant Guard: Probably in the background of the Middle Zealand scenes, but he didn't jump out to me, probably because he's already generic.

• Hank Haystack: I think he was one of the people Wyldstyle jumped when they first arrived in the Wild West.

• Ice Cream Jo: She was in the crowd that first got glued by Lord Business, and maybe later flying the Ice Cream machine.

• Ice Cream Mike: I don't remember seeing him in a crowd, but he was probably in the Ice Cream Machine when it was flying around.

• Kabob Bob: I believe he was in the Wyldstyle speech crowd scenes and seen again in his flying kabob stand.

• Rootbeer Belle: She was seen wandering around in the Saloon a couple of times, both in the Wild West and (I think) during Wyldstyle's speech, and I think in the biplane.

• Sir Stackabrick: I think he appeared in most of the Middle Zealand shots, but again he was kind of generic

• Sudds Backwash: He appeared in the Saloon in most of the scenes there, as well as in his Biplane, but sadly he had no lines. I was hoping he’d be the civilian taking the lead in the fight against the Micro Managers, but no dice.

• Garbage Man Dan & Grant: They were hanging from an antenna when Lord Buisness flew into the city. . . why they were up there I dunno.

• Snail: It appeared in the background in Cloud Cuckcoo Land, but that as it

• Taco Tuesday Guy: He's seen celebrating Taco Tuesday a few times (plus his like four other clone brothers) but he has no lines

• Alfie the Apprentice: I don't exactly remember him??

• Chef Gordon Zola: I don't remember him either

• Dr McScrubs: I don't remember him. Probably just another face in the crowd.

Anyway, it was indeed a good movie. Although if you were like me and watched each and every trailer, than the first half of the movie was kind of. . . reruns. (I did the same thing when The Legend Reborn came out. . . only that time the previews covered all the good parts. At least the second half of this movie was relatively unspoiled.) I did feel that there were some pacing issues in the beginning, but again that might’ve just been because of what I just mentioned. :shrugs:

I also bought the soundtrack (technically before I’d even seen the movie, although I didn’t listen to the full thing before I saw it.) It’s good, and I have bits of it stuck in my head, which is surprisingly not the “Everything is Awesome” song.

I do want to see it again, and I probably will. (Maybe a matinee 2D showing. . . I’m not sure 3D was really worth it.) And I will for sure by it when it comes out on DVD. Heck, maybe even preorder it and get whatever fig it comes with, since I never do that otherwise. But yeah, great movie, go see it if you haven’t already.

Emmet with stud on leg: I didn't actually see where they got him with the stud, but I noticed it later during his speech.

Bad Cop shoots it on him as they're traveling along the train trying to escape, before Batman shows up.
