The Apathy Pit

E3 Thoughts Part 1

Posted by The Present Automaton , Jun 05 2012 · 178 views

Well, I'm not gonna narrate everything I saw in E3, as I've pretty much forgotten most of it, and I can't really be bothered to go back and jog my memory, so I'll just discuss that which had some semblance of an effect on me.

I only caught Microsoft's conference at the end to catch the Cawadoody Blops 2 preview. And once again I watched it with a cynical eyebrow raised, wondering just how anyone could enjoy it. I've never been a fan of the Call of Duty series and the best part about it in my opinion is how I managed to make a profit from selling Modern Warfare 2.

EA's conference made me sad. Seeing Dead Space 3 with co-op and cover based shooting was ridiculous, given that's a sign they've completely abandoned the survival horror elements of the first game and arguably the second. Also seeing them trying to push The Old Republic. Can't they just let that doomed ship sink?

As for Ubisoft, I was a little more interested. Assassin's Creed 3, though I was dubious about it at first, looking at gameplay, I'm now a heck of a lot more excited. I'm still disappointed in how subtlety seems to be a forgotten concept in these games and now the focus is explosions and large scale wars. Watch Dogs, however, looks absolutely amazing.

Now, finally, the Sony conference. I'm sad to say I fell asleep when this was playing. According to the friend whose house I was staying around, apparently I was talking in my sleep. Which is unnerving since I can't remember what, though I have a feeling I might have been describing what I already knew about Assassin's Creed: Liberation. Having rewatched it, I can safely confirm I like what I see. Beyond looks incredibly meh and not nearly as interesting or immersing as Heavy Rain did, but God of War: Ascencion is just...wow. I was very cynical as I hate it when developers can't let a franchise go and seeing a God of War 4 seemed ridiculous. But now having watched the game in action I can confirm I'm getting excited for it, as the graphics look incredible and the gameplay more fun than ever before. Then we have The Last of Us, which, again, I had no interest in, but now I'm impressed and will be trying to mix in with the people who were already excited for it.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be going back to crossing my fingers and sacrificing sheep to Square Enix and Capcom in the hope that they can find it in their hearts to announced anything related to either NieR or the Onimusha series, respectively.

Mind = Blown

How I'm feeling right now:

Just finished the last episode of Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt. My mind felt like it was gonna blow through most of that series so now the ending has left me just utterly perplexed.

Also, interesting thing to note. I shan't rant on the details, as I do that too much, but I've now discovered that I hate parties. Especially parties filled with people the same age as me.

And now my throat hurts. For the first time in months I finally played a game on Steam, which turned out to be Limbo. At first I act like I'm in a Let's Play, but then I just started getting more irritated and began cursing when I kept dying. Long story short, shouting ruined my vocal cords.

Obligatory Marvel's Avengers Assemble Entry

Posted by The Present Automaton , May 31 2012 · 156 views

Yeah, everyone calls it The Avengers. But the title very clearly said Marvel's Avengers Assemble. So that's what it's called.

I know, I'm frustratingly late to the party. But I made it in the end and y'know what, I thoroughly loved it. The action scenes were so very well directed with enough screen time to give every character something to do and some well-placed comic relief that was genuinely amusing rather than frustrating. I don't know if I'd call it my favourite film, but it's going in the list of candidates, just because of how much fun it was. Just a pity I never managed to catch Iron Man 2, nor either of the Hulk films in time.

All in all, it was a fun venture out with friends that began with the invention of Zeus Juice (A fuel for busses) and ended on an amusing note with the suggestion that the whole thing took place in Red Skull's colon. It's probably best you just don't ask.

Get Out Of My Head! Get Out Of My Heeeeead!

Like a shadow flows in the rain
Like a foreign flame in the dark
Showing you the way

And you learn
What we feel now isn't pain
Just a scent of it is enough
Blinding me with grace

Is it out of my head yet?! Noooope! Still there, and I don't think it intends to go anywhere! Aggggggh! >_<

Today's been interesting. I finally watched Thor, which makes me one step closer to actually seeing the Avengers. It was kinda forgettable. I also met up with some old friends from my previous school, and it was weird to see how much we've changed, and how much I no longer fit in with them. While they're there talking about more teen stuff, I'm just sitting back awkwardly, thinking about what I'd write for the short story contest. It's weird, I know. I wonder if there actually is a group I do fit in with. I'm doubtful. Weird how people grow apart, really.

...Sorry, that turned into another ramble at the end. Have an emoticon to compensate. :turn:

Okay, I'll Admit It... Maybe I'm A Little Bit Obsessed

Posted by The Present Automaton , May 28 2012 · 156 views

I've had my old desktop wallpaper for a really long time. Has to be a few months now, and as they say, change is of the essence. There's only so many times you can look at a collapsing city on fire. So, I went on the hunt for something...new. And found a wallpaper I should have had a long time ago. If you can guess the theme, you win...Um, something. A round of gentlemanly applause? Yeah, that'll do. Not that it's difficult. And yeah, I know. I need to clean up some of those shortcuts. Quite desperately.

Also, I am very grateful for the 48 hour rule for the short story contest. I really need to write something, fast.
