Hi Everyone! Welcome to Day 1 of the Annual NaNoWriMo challenge! Every week, I am going to post here regarding my progress on my NaNo project for this year. If I'm on top of my game, I congratulate myself and evaluate my progress. If I'm short on my word count, I'll evaluate what I'm doing wrong and work to improve it.

Day 1: GO!

This will be short: I have somewhere to be. But let me introduce and give a preview of this year's NaNo book: The Lord of Misrule!

Synopsis:

Somewhere in the world, there exists a place of magic and wonder. It is a place where the future of performing world comes together to create extraordinary works of art, to hone their craft, and to find their path before scattering to the winds to share their magic with the world. This place is neither here, there, or anywhere, really. Its lost arts and hidden location connects to every theatre in the world, and its players. This place is the Thespian's Institution of the Performing Arts.

The annual Feast of Fools is approaching; a time of revelry, excitement, and pure tomfoolery. Their equivalent to a normal school's homecoming week, the Feast of Fools is the climax of a week of merriment. And the "king" of this feast is the Lord of Misrule, one of the highest honors for any actor to play at the institution. There is, however, a small hitch. No one knows who the Lord of Misrule is. They never do. He or she is selected anonymously by the staff, and the actor in question is sworn to secrecy. Not that it stops the student population from going wild with guesses. And for sophmore student Elijah A. Goodblood, it's personal this year.

Annnd... A Sneak Preview!:

Once upon a time, the world was filled with magic. Creatures of mystery wandered the night, and bursts of magic duels filled the air. The elements themselves could be controlled by those who could hear the wind sing and feel the earth dance. For centuries, this was the way of the world.

Then the magic died.

To this day, no one really knows how it happened. It is hypothesized that over time, as science became more prominent and the borders of the maps filled in, magic, and belief in it thereof, faded. The more out-there in frame of mind claim that the principle sources of magic were extinguished. Regardless, it was clear that magic had gone from the world.

Or had it?

The truth is, magic isn’t gone. It has faded, yes, but it hasn’t disappeared entirely. The dirt of the world, the artists and performers and dreamers took the magic into themselves and their art, preserving its remains. it passes on, both down family lines and in new generations, emerging on the stage, canvas and screen to prove that it does indeed live.

And even today, those who can heard the wind sing and feel the earth dance use Magic to create wondrous tales of majesty and wonder. These young artists and dreamers are sought out and brought to special schools where they can train their bodies and minds to use their magic, before scattering to the winds to share that magic with the world.
