Something Stupid

Tsukumogami Hunter

This idea has been slowly developing for a while. It started with the idea of a secret group of people with powers who needed to shift to a different plane of existence to fight, but one character can’t fully transition and thus can still be seen by regular people much to their confusion. Then there was a prompt in Fiction Writing this semester which brought to my mind the concept of tsukumogami, basically inanimate objects that come to life, and I thought I could play with that idea a little and combine it with the previous idea.

The short story is a test run—I’d like to do something with it in the future, but it might be quite a while before it gets anywhere. I’m just glad to finally get it out there after it’s been sitting in my head this long!

And no this isn’t an April Fool’s thing, I mean it might have turned out so bad that it is a joke but if so please break it to me gently.

Finally Posting Some Stories

Posted by Pahrak #0579 , Mar 31 2015 · 100 views

So I know I said I was going to write a few stories over break, but for some reason I just completely crashed and didn’t accomplish much of anything. I’m sorry about that—I’m starting to get back on track (since my third story for Fiction Writing is due soon), and I’m still going to get all those things up, it just might take a little more time.

First up is Mending. This is a Queen story that began with an idea for a monologue, where the Queen of the Land says she can feel the entire world to make it even more unfortunate that she has been restricted to the queendom of Roche. It’s tied into the problems she and the Queen of Gravity are experiencing with their relationship, so I set it during the novel plot a bit farther ahead of where I currently am. This puts the Queen of Light in Roche and gives Land someone to monologue to (though I tried to make it more of a dialogue), and hopefully it’s vague enough that the plot I’m skipping won’t be missed.

Since this was going to potentially be used for Fiction Writing it makes reference to the second story I submitted for that class, Divine Clash, so it might make more sense if you read that first. Also if you’re interested in the Queens I’m currently trying to make a decision regarding them, and help would be much appreciated!

Next will probably be an original idea meant to be a “pilot” for a story playing with a concept from Japanese mythology. (I was also thinking of using this for Fiction Writing, but thought introducing one weird world per semester was enough. I have a draft, just want to edit at least a bit.) After that, there’s the piece I’m actually going to use for the class (another Queen story, also related to Clash and features the Queens of War and Fire) which is due on Monday and will be posted sometime around then, and the second chapter of Shooting Star Sonia which might have a little difficulty staying afloat in the near future but I will do my best to accomplish nonetheless!

Also I do have a new idea for weekly prompts in mind (I might have mentioned this already?), but between school and other stuff I might not get to this until May. Which is a shame, the reason I keep mentioning it is because I’m really excited about it! I shouldn’t try too much at once, though, it can wait for now…

On a completely unrelated note dreams are weird, in one night I dreamt about making Dragon Ball Z puns to put on cupcakes for Frieza, and Korra and Asami fighting a giant flying robot head with tactical support from Bolin and Varrick. Best dreams I’ve head in a while tbh.

Asterisk Guide: Knight

Posted by Pahrak #0579 , Mar 31 2015 · 84 views

Asterisk Holder: Argent Heinkel

Posted Image

Origin: Final Fantasy

Was It In Bravely Default?: Yes

Overview: With armor, swords, and shields, this Job is a pretty solid front-line unit for your starting party. They offer extremely useful abilities like Sword Lore, Shield Lore, and the ever-amazing Two Handed, along with the oddity that is Dual Shields, but hey whatever works. They’re going to be your most solid party member early on, and are capable of protecting allies from damage. A great Job for getting you started on your adventure.

Personal Thoughts: Apparently Knight and a few other Jobs have been confirmed? Meh. Knight is iconic and does provide some great abilities (Two Handed is simply awesome), but I feel like it doesn’t really stand out that well and can easily be replaced with other Jobs. Definitely use it early on and maybe farm some of its abilities later, but pretty much anything a Knight can do can be done better by another Job, so don’t be surprised if it quickly falls out of actual use.

An Important (ish) Decision

Posted by Pahrak #0579 , Mar 30 2015 · 150 views

So earlier I was working on stuff for my possible novel-type thing Divine Strength, and, well…

I’m thinking I might cut a few of the Queens?

See, right now I have 12 Queens and 11 queendoms. Through feedback I’ve gotten in the Fiction Writing classes I’ve presented the idea in, some people have said that’s a bit much, and that some of the Queens might not really fit. (They also say they need normal names but I’m holding out on that one.) I was working on some new short pieces today and I thought, maybe I should actually do that?

The Queens on the block are Music, Time, and Gravity. Time I’m thinking could be used in a larger role if I ever make a sequel or something, and Music has no characteristics and is a lesser known element so could easily be pushed back into the hypothetical future. Gravity is something people have called anachronistic, and while I’d like to keep gravity magic, I guess I don’t really need it. Of course, the Queen of Gravity is integral to the story, but I’m thinking I could essentially merge her with the Queen of the Sky, who doesn’t have any traits yet. Basically the character I’m currently calling Gravity would be renamed Sky, her magic would be switched, and gravity magic and the former Sky queendom get scrapped. This then makes the Queen of the Sky and the Queen of the Land married and jointly ruing the queendom of Roche, which feels like a weird pairing of elements at first but might fit thematically with the Queens being a combination of humans (the land) and goddesses (the sky)?

Anyway that would take us to 9 Queens and 8 queendoms, which sounds more manageable and leaves me with fewer Queens who are currently hanging in the background of the plot.

Big decisions like this are tough for me. Does anyone have any food for thought they might want to throw at me?

(Also I am aware I didn’t finish any of those stories I said I would post over break, break got away from me and I’m sorry, I’ll do my best to get them out soon and I swear this is related.)

Asterisk Guide: Chariot

Posted by Pahrak #0579 , Mar 30 2015 · 119 views

Asterisk Holder: Cu Chulainn

Posted Image

Origin: Bravely Second

Was It In Bravely Default?: No

Overview: Chariot is said to be a weapon master class capable of causing massive physical damage. It also possesses a Triple Wield ability, though how exactly this works is yet to be seen.

Personal Thoughts: Is that Asterisk Holder a centaur?! Weird. Anyway, physical powerhouse Jobs always sound pretty good to me, and if this Job is a weapon master then that means it’s probably pretty versatile. And then there’s Triple Wield, which sounds ridiculous but potentially game-breakingly awesome, so I’m looking forward to hearing more about that. Well, what’s your opinion on this Job: yay or neigh?

Asterisk Guide: Pirate

Posted by Pahrak #0579 , Mar 28 2015 · 135 views

Asterisk Holder: Hayreddin Barbosa

Posted Image

Origin: Final Fantasy III (called Viking)

Was It In Bravely Default?: Yes

Overview: Pirates are axe-wielding powerhouses whose special abilities let them deal physical damage while simultaneously debuffing the target, making them great for any team. They also have powerful moves like Double Damage, Torrent, and Amped Strike, along with several abilities for raising their physical strength under certain conditions. A Pirate never stops swinging until the enemy is dead…which usually doesn’t take long!

Personal Thoughts: I’m psyched. Pirates are like an enhanced version of the old Berserker class, which seems interesting at first glance but isn’t actually all that useful. Pirate looks cool and is awesome. Heck, I don’t even use the debuff attacks that much, I just either spam Torrent against the final boss, or pair it with a Swordmaster so I can save up BP and use Free Lunch plus a series of Amped Strikes to decimate an enemy in one turn. Of course, axe specials only charge by defeating enemies, so if you’re going into a boss fight you might want to give them a Lore ability so they can charge specials a few times during the fight, but…that might be the only downside? I’m looking forward to using this Job again. I’m gonna be King of the Pirates!

Ask a Bohrok

I like to join in popular trends sometimes

So feel free to ask me questions if you want

That also applies to after this entry falls onto that mythical second page no one’s ever read, feel free to ask me weird stuff using whatever channels you like, I can make myself approachable probably

But don’t ask me to choose between things because I’m super indecisive okay

Er, rather, Spring Break.

Yeah that one.

It begins today for me, now that my class this morning is over.

While I hope to spend some time relaxing and playing video games and will probably spend some time on that novel I’m supposed to read and that essay I’m supposed to write, and then there’s that job thing and maybe making progress in being a functioning human being, I also hope to spend a good deal of time writing over break. Primarily because my third and final piece for Fiction Writing will be due not long after I go back. I have a few ideas I’m exploring and want to write them all down—once I pick one, it’ll probably enter a prolonged state of editing while the others get a bit of polish and then get posted, and then I’ll post the story I actually go with around when I print it for class.

Also I’m determined to write the second chapter of Shooting Star Sonia (sorry for taking so long), and thanks to Voltex’s new game I’m reconsidering weekly prompt possibilities and I think I have a great one figured out! I think I’m going to wait a while before I try it out, though, partly because I’m going to be doing a lot of writing already, and partly because I want to come up with a better name for the method.

Names are important.

In tangentially related news I finally marathoned my way through the first season of Steven Universe. Somehow I survived the emotions. Best. Decision. This. Year. So now I’m considering doing a Steven Universe X Mega Man Star Force crossover, since it’ll probably be much longer til I get around to the Star Force X Sailor Moon crossover I was thinking of trying and SU works just as well if not better. But I will make myself focus on Shooting Star Sonia first!

(Also can someone familiar with Kingdom Hearts and Steven Universe cry with me about Riku/Lapis parallels because I need to avoid actually experiencing those emotions.)

So I’m weak and had some extra money and I bought Alpha Sapphire. I don’t plan on updating as much as a did when I played Omega Ruby, but I do want to try to develop some characters and mythology and such. Since I’ve done a lot of transferring via Poke Bank this time around, I’ve decided that Poke Bank is the Void that connects worlds from Final Fantasy, which is why the player characters are named after legendary creatures of the Void (Omega and Shinryu). I have some other ideas, but I don’t know that any of them really fit, so I’m just going to see what comes up naturally. I already discovered my starter is a vampire, so that’s cool, and feels fitting after the unfortunate events unfolding in Twitch Plays Pokémon. Anyway, current profiles!

TEAM PROFILE: Shinryu the Human
TITLES: The Player Character, Bearer of the Stone Badge, Bearer of the Knuckle Badge, Bearer of the Dynamo Badge
Named after an otherworldly dragon, the counterpart to a superweapon named Omega. Shinryu is a True Neutral, and really doesn’t care about other people or the world around him. He only does things that benefit him. In his boredom, he decided to take up the Pokémon League Challenge. His relationship with his Pokémon is…developing. They tend to keep him on his toes, and he does seem to care about them, he’s just not particularly affectionate.

TEAM PROFILE: Garland the Grovyle
TITLES: The Starter, Count Garland, Gym Slayer
A sassy vampire lizard plant who is somewhat of a clown. Garland was Shinryu’s starter, and is constantly poking fun at him and anyone else, sarcastic bordering on malicious. He is best known for healing himself with the energy of his opponents, first through Absorb and now through Mega Drain, revealing his true nature as a vampire. He only feeds on his opponents, though. Actually, it’s questionable if he really needs to feed, he might just do it for fun…

TEAM PROFILE: Lily the Lombre
TITLES: The Doomed, The Bystander, The Strategist
Shinryu caught a Lotad because he knew he was going to need a Surfer before catching Kyogre, and doesn’t use her in battle. At all. With her impish nature, she gets flustered by this and argues with him and the rest of the team constantly. She is thoroughly cunning, and has offered some advice to the others in times of need, showing that she still feels like part of the team.

TEAM PROFILE: Bladebird the Skarmory
TITLES: The Jetsword
A Skarmory just as sassy as Garland. The two get along famously. She likes to run…despite the fact that she has wings, which Shinryu finds quite odd. Currently the slowest leveler of the team, so she is frequently sent out first in random encounters.

TEAM PROFILE: Hyouhana the Froslass
TITLES: The Blizzard Angel, The Youkai
Hyouhana tragically died as an infant Snorunt, but what her body lacked in strength was made up by her perseverance of spirit, allowing her to live on as a Froslass. This has given her a great respect for all life, leading to her being very careful. She tends to hang back most often but can always jump in with precision in any situation. Sometimes she disappears, and, unbeknownst to her teammates, seeks out travelers lost in blizzards—but rather than leading them to their death as legends state, she actually leads them to warmth and safety, causing her to be revered in cold regions as a guardian.

TEAM PROFILE: Usagi the Lunatone
TITLES: Gym Slayer, Champion of Love and Justice, The Lunar Guardian
Though Usagi likes to fight, they are actually quite careful most of the time. They do, however, have a habit of delivering long introductions and dramatic attack names, much to Shinryu’s frustration. Garland and Bladebird will occasionally poke fun, but aside from a few incidents it’s all in good fun.

TITLES: The Bulldozer, Gym Slayer
A lax Pokémon capable of taking hits. Due to her laid-back nature, she is the one Shinryu is most comfortable around, since he doesn’t need to invest any extra effort in keeping up with her. She has a background in construction and has a habit of bulldozing her opponents. She’s already developed a rather fearsome reputation, actually…
