Writing Through Broken Circumstances

In the summer between my 9th and 10th grade years, I became acquainted with a young lady best known as "Allison." Not long after I discovered that Allison's parents were divorced and she was being abused by stepfather, that she had taken to cutting herself and it wasn't long after that she attempted suicide.   Thanks for cheering us up Zox, great start there.   She aborted her suicide because I sent a text asking how she was doing. That minuscule, caring human contact was enough to convince her

Why I Stayed in the Singing Cadets for all Four Years

My first half-year in the Singing Cadets was miserable. I despised the initiatory process and even into the 2nd half and throughout my four years I resented the older "Old Men" and those younger than me who embraced the system a little too enthusiastically for my taste. Even in my last year, at the height of my seniority and reputation in the group I had plenty of reason to despise some people in the group.   Which, of course, has led one friend in particular to keep asking me why I bothered wit

Weird idea at 4 a.m.

So, my scumbag brain woke me up at 3:30ish this morning. Couldn't go back to sleep. So I wrote a bit in a journal I'm trying to start keeping for reasons. For related reasons, I'm writing this journal in an alphabet of my own creation, and while I was going along, slowly getting faster and complaining to myself about some of the more complex letter-forms I had two thoughts:   1. This writing system looks awesome when I use my fountain pen (my opinion, your mileage may vary).   2. I might be able

Vartemp's BS01 History

Got a BS01 related entry for y'all. Shout-out to Vartemp (BZP Profile) and his BS01 Histories Page. Now, as some of you may be aware, I do have my own page full of records, but Var's is different. Thus far he has taken it upon himself to collect links to old versions of certain, interesting pages, all of them webarchive (Wayback Machine) links. Some things he has found thus far that I find really neat are the old Major Contributors Template, and by old I mean from 2006 old! It has a nav built in

Unpleasant Surprise

Dear Roommate:   I realize you wish I would drink less Sprite.   But it feels very threatening to come home and find the ant poison sitting on top of my box of Sprite.   That stuff's dangerous, yo.   Sincerely,   Your Roommate

Tour Days 6&7: Amarillo and Midland

Today's post brought to you by psychological disturbance. That is, my psychological stability has been slowly chipped back to high school levels. I hate the tour bus =)   On the other hand, last night may have been the best concert all tour.   And that's all I really got.   Home... T^T

Tour Days 4&5: Springdale and Wichita

6 hour bus ride to Springdale. All that needs to be said about this stop is that the choir was probably bigger than the audience. Anything good was quickly eclipsed by the bad of day 5.   So it was another long ride, though not quite as long, to Wichita. It wasn't a ghastly early morning, but I was tired. Day started by looking at my phone and Skype: neither Otter nor Humva would be able to make it to the concert. Well great. That was supposed to be the highlight of the stop. So I get on the bus

Tour Days 2&3 - Ft. Worth & Longview

First concert went off well enough. The buffo didn't set up very well, pretty inefficient. It was their first tour set-up, though, so it can be excused. Their jokes haven't improved either. They have abandoned the plausible jokes of me being crazy, making fun of my conlang, or saying I have no friends, heart, or soul...to instead call me childish.   First concert was in a Church of Christ, so that meant no piano...not until we arrived when the grand piano they rented for the concert arrived. Tour Day 9 - Austin

Into the heart of enemy territory, and our--paradoxically--most highly attended concert. Lots of formers came to sing with us on the last song, and I got to see my parents =)   Alas, I can't tell you about the bus ride home because of tradition. If any of you come to A&M and join the Singing Cadets I really don't want to spoil the final ride for you. It was good, and I was happy tour was ending. Really needed to get away from the same 60 faces. I'm at home now (that is, home away from colleg

Tour Day 8 - Waco

I really wish the buffo would abandon their current line of "humor" regarding the topic of me. There are several things to make fun of, but they've latched on to a single thing and absolutely ruined the not-funny joke by banging on and on. Originality is not their strong suit, and we would have been told to bar similar things from our jokes by now. I'd also like to see what they would do if we made them remove jokes regarding sexual orientation and related anatomy from their repertoire. So very,

Tour Day 1 - Ft. Worth

Every year around this time for the last three years I have gone on a 7 to 10 day tour with my college choir, and this year is no exception. Today was just a primer day, though. Acquaint the new guys with bus rules, give them a taste of what is required of them, and do some rehearsal at a church local to tomorrow's performance location.   I'll probably tell more as the days go by, but one thing required of newbies (hereafter called buffo) is to provide jokes and entertainment on the bus (mainly

Tomorrow

Tomorrow volunteer registration will open for A-Kon 27 in Dallas, Tx. As I've done for the past few years, I'm going to be submitting an application to volunteer as a medic during the event. It's always a ton of fun, if exhausting and terribly wearing on my feet. I tend to stiffly stumble back to my hotel room at 4 a.m. and take a few moments to just sit down and rejoice in taking my weight off them. A-Kon is a yearly anime convention that (now) takes place in the Hilton Anatole of Dallas, and v

To BZPers in Texas:

I know there are a few in the Austin area, and this is mainly addressed to them because they're likely closest. If you'd like to take a day-trip away from Austin this weekend (or where ever you live if you're able/inclined to travel to Bryan-College Station) and be entertained with holiday music from multiple choirs on a Sunday afternoon, I can hook you up. My college chorus and it's two sister choirs will be putting on a holiday concert at 3pm, and I can promise that you'll enjoy at least MY ch

The woe of a conductor

A probie member of my choir made this joke after rehearsal:       A famous orchestra conductor was going to give his final performance before he retired, and he chose Beethoven's 9th Symphony as the piece he wanted to go out on.   But he couldn't count on the basses in the choir, because they all went out in the hours before the concert and got plastered   But there was no helping it   The concert went ahead as scheduled   And for most of the performance the basses did fine   It was okay   It wa

The White

BZP Muster-------------------------------   Those of you who know me know that my interests lie in a few particular places: writing, reading, music, a select number of shows, and medicine. Hopefully by this time next year I will be entering into medical school. For the past few years I have volunteered as an EMT-Basic with the Texas A&M Emergency Care Team. In the BZPRPG I play as a medic. Medicine has been an enduring interest, and the people of medicine have had a lasting impact on my li

The Way it Started

In my last post, I introduced my History page: http://biosector01.com/wiki/index.php/User:Zo;Tomana/Histories. It all started back in 2008 with the first BS01 Staff April Fool's Day Prank. Known variously as the BS01 Empire or the V Incident, I discovered what was going on behind the prank and began to create a chronicle, a File, on a subpage. This stood for two years as the V File, until the 2010 and April Event, the KS01 Empire. After Lord Nektann began to create his own record of the event, I

The Unofficial BS01 History Page

TL;DR version is at the bottom.   Since October 2005, the BS01 Wiki has served to recount the history of the BIONICLE Story. The history of the Wiki itself is officially contained on a few scattered pages. The Wiki's About page gives us an overview of the site's history. The Event Log Archive gives us a daily log going back to July 2008. Neither of these pages gives any detail into the events that took place, however. Enter http://biosector01.com/wiki/index.php/User:Zo;Tomana/Histories. That's r

The Roll Call

As September 11th nears, I have begun to turn my attention towards what I will be publishing on my BS01 Userpage. I have made one of these speeches once a year for the past four or five years now, as a tribute to 9/11 and to people across the world who have died in various tragedies.   This year, I would like to do something different. I would like to find a way to honor the BZPower family specifically in addition to my usual statements.   At Texas A&M, my university, we have a yearly tradit

The Red

BZPower Muster ----------------------------------------------------- A few of you know that I am involved in the world of Emergency Medicine, and as a matter of course I interact with other medics, with police officers, and with firefighters. As 9/11 nears, I would like to take a moment each week to recognize these three forces--the Red, the White, and the Blue--which are so integral and important in my life.   When I turned 16 I joined my city fire department as a junior volunteer. The Perils of Fluid Plans

They turn what was meant to be one night at your ex-gf's parents' house into 3, and having to overhear on the morning after the third night your ex-gf's mother refer to you (on accident) to your ex-gf as "your boyfrien-- your friend..."   Dagnabit, Freud!

The Mental Infection is Complete

A long time ago, my dad told me a story from when he was a resident at a hospital in the DFW area. I forget the doctor's name, but Dad told us how this particular doc would have music going while he performed surgeries. One song that would play is by Creedence Clearwater Revival, and the doctor would sing along until the chorus where he'd insert the wrong lyrics. Instead of "there's a bad moon on the rise" he'd sing "bathroom on the right." I find this hilarious. "Don't go around tonight. It'

The BS01 CVU

Ever fighting the uphill battle of archiving BS01 History, I have decided that it would be worthwhile to create a file on the BIONICLESector01 Counter Vandalism Unit. A predecessor to the mysterious APO (unexplained, unchronicled, and probably also inactive), the CVU was founded in 2006 in response to a large scale vandal attack on the Wiki. The Unit--founded by Bionus, Utopia, and Bioran--was comprised of both Staff and regular members, and was responsible for the prevention of vandalism and fo

The Blue

BZP Muster-------------------------------   I was not looking forward to this entry. Mainly, because there is such a furor over certain people who are a part of the Blue that it isn't as neutral a memorial as those for the Red and the White.   But it must be done. These are the people we trust to guard our streets, protect the peace of this country from within, and they have one heck of a job to do. These days they walk lines both professional and political, personal and public. These men and

The Big Bang Theory Set

I only have one problem with TBBT set passing the review board, and it doesn't have to do with me not liking the show anymore.   In the words of my father, who is a fan of the show: "The Big Bang Theory is all about the Bang, and I don't mean the scientific one."   LEGO rejected the Firefly Serenity set a while back based on concerns about the content of the IP, which has translated over to the people I know as "LEGO has a problem with Inara." The violence within the Firefly 'Verse likely wasn't

That Hypothetical Zelda Game

Here's a semi-coherent storyline that I shouldn't be thinking about, but am and need to get it out of my head.   Open: Link and Zelda are far away from Hyrule in Labrynna for, diplomatic purposes. A dark force related to the ancient power of Veran has awoken in the land and the Mayor has asked for help from the Princess and the Hero. Just before they can meet with the Mayor, one of this epoch's Six Sages appears, gravely injured, to report that Ganondorf has (finally) given up on the idea of gat
