I do like "Birth by Sleep", and the other one is certainly creative but is such a mouthful (and the way we're told to read it is different than it looks, which just confuses me).  I didn't mention it above, but I think "Chain of Memories" is one of the most effective choices they made, since it has a unique feel to it and also is explicitly demonstrated throughout the game.  And of course "coded" is easy to remember and makes sense, but that's less creative, I guess?

 

The fact that they explained 3D up front just makes me envision an exasperated Tetsuya Nomura talking with his staff about how players are too lazy to interpret anything and wondering how clear he has to be for them to stop making fun of the titles or something.  I guess I've been wondering for some time when Nomura would become frustrated with the fandom and discovered that may have already happened.

I love weird stuff like that though! Symbolism! Allegory! Other things! Argh, why am I not into this series more? (Let me guess, the concept of friendship is shoved down the player's throat sixteen times over before the games end?)

At least sixteen times in each game, yes.
