^click for bigger picture I'm never going to enter that BBC at this rate. EDIT: Topic (I still haven't made a topic for Heterocrhomion. I might want to get on that)
-
Why is it that when I start making a MOC for a contest I end up deviating away from what I was originally building? This needs to stop happening, or I'll never get around to entering one of them thar BBC thingies.
-
For my The Call of Cthulhu.
-
Still need to build six more things to rival the amount of creations Arpy is bringing. This might get a tad bit crazy.
-
Thinking about cool things to build is almost as fun as actually building them. Also MOT=My own Thought
-
If I don't pack up my stuff I'll end up taking them apart. So, in the boxes, going bottom to top, are The Call of Cthulhu, Katsumoto, Sting, Tatterdemalion. Yet to be packed away completely are Wyvern, Hematoma Powersuit, Clockwork Strakk (after I re-attach it's feet). Not packed yet is at least one unfinished MOC and one just finished MOC. The unfinished one is going to go in the Big Chill box. Speaking of the just finished MOC: Not gonna post a topic for it cuz there's only one Bionicle piece in it and it was a rather quick MOC. So, I'm bringing at least 9 MOCs to Brickfair (as long as there isn't a conflict with my new job)

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but some of the best building advice I've ever received came from the man, the myth, the legend, Cajun: I got this advice after I had so boldly asked him to review this: (shown, really bad BBC entry) I think that ended up paying off pretty well. So really, If any of you up and coming awesome builder dudes want a review or something, drop me a link and point out what I should focus on. Or not I guess. But that part's up to you.

Que Earth wind and Fire Anyways, I kinda find it funny that this: (Shown, guitar playing Toa) Was, at one point in time, one of my best creations. How times have changed.
-
Now that is a Technic Fig Hardsuit. All of my other attempts (1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ) are powersuits/mechs
-
Back to it's older name. ALSO I builded a MOC. Which is odd because before I was blocked or something and couldn't. But I did. And I should be postin' it tomorrow.
-
Great. I can't seem to build anything currently. Also, Quintesson WIP got taken apart. It was just becoming ugly.
-
Swappin' pieces with some System guys.
-
Woah an entry that actually has a MOC in it! So, this is a very early WIP. Totally have to cover all the gaps and fill out the body (really, I have to make the body) and what have you. Kinda inspired by this dude
-
Guess I need to work on posting MOCs more irregularly. Or just on posting them. I think I'll post my Alpha Quintesson-esque WIP sometime. It is going to be rather interesting building this.

In another age, that would be a pretty obvious statement. First thing I've managed to put together in 6 weeks. (on a somewhat related note, the thing that I built last time I came off of a month long hiatus was a little bit more impressive. However, I had access to pieces over that break, so it was just kinda sitting around in bits and pieces during then. That break was a "can't figure out what to build." This break was a "can't build.")

Pretty self explanatory, just I'd like to figure it out if I want to use that blue background more or if I should get another alt color background (or two). P

It seems to be that people react better to criticism that is more organized and less assaulting. This applies to the BBC and many other forums and MOCing outlets. Now, I'm not going to go and tell anyone to pull any punches if they feel like being a harsh critic, but saying "I'm only being mean to help you" seems like a rather moot point. I mean, I know that I don't go and pull my punches when I know that people can handle it, but I'd rather encourage people to get better than tell them that they're horrible, even if it is true at the moment. The mentality that everyone should just go and grow a thick skin and just handle harsh criticism is rather backwards. I'm not saying that you should water down your statements. I just think that it could do without all the negativity sometimes. Offering possible solutions and trying to reinforce out of the box thinking, even if it's not fully realized at that point in time, is going to benefit the Bionicle Building community as a whole. We've already got plenty of System dudes who think that Bionicle is an inferior building medium than System. Wouldn't it be awesome if we had a lot of people who could build incredible Bionicle creations that express more creativity than some System builds? If builders that are already pretty good put some effort and spread about good means of review (not to knock on the BBC Critics Club, but having a review be long by mandatory isn't very attractive to reviewers), I think that it's very possible that there will be a boom in the Bionicle Building Community. Currently, though, I just don't see it happening. And I'm not going to be some soapbox speaker. I"m going to offer some helpful tips over the next few weeks to builders that I think are capable of making some truly awesome MOCs, even if their parts selection is limited. There are a few things that I think that can be done to move to a more creative BBC: -A greater focus on interesting piece use -Focus on offering advice instead of only focusing on the strong points and ignoring the weak ones. -Focus on building more non-robotic, non-Bionicle Based MOCs Now, what do I mean by building less Bionicle Based MOCs? I mean building MOCs that don't look like they would belong in the Bionicle Canon. Bionicle parts are good for building robots. That's what they're meant for. Lego bricks, on the other hand, are good for building a variety of things. Because of Bionicle's perceived limitation of usefulness, many System builders think that it is far and away inferior to System, at least from what I've learned from talking with some System dudes. Others are just bigoted against it. Anyways, I think that if the community as a whole can build more MOCs that look like they aren't robots, that are just plain awesome, I think that it would be a great triumph for Bionicle Builders as a whole. If we can prove that it is useful for things other than humanoid robots, we might be able to improve Bionicle's standing in the overall Lego community. And there are very few things that are more fun that sticking it non-believers. So anywho, I've got a challenge for all of you (well, at least all of you that read this): Go out and make something that doesn't look Bionicle-y. Who knows, it might be easier or harder than you think. Go and help an aspiring builder who wants to be better (maybe influence someone who didn't think they could be better). There isn't a prize or reward for doing this (at least not one that I'm going to give out) I don't really care for being a communitarian, but I think more community spirit around here would be good. Well, I'll be seeing y'all around and what have you. P

(Y'all can find it here) So, I've definitely gotta step up my game, or I'll lose to Disty. And that won't be any fun. So far, there's been three rounds. The first round, we both had to make a Throwbot revamp. My revamp ^ Then, we had to build an accurate snowmobile. Which neither one of us did. Because we both were unable to etc. Now, we have to build a politically charged MOC. Which I can't post here because it isn't finished and BZP has this one policy thing about politics and such. So, yeah. I'd also be participating 55555's contest thing he was having on Flickr, but I'm way too busy for it. Especially since I'm going to be shipping up to my Grandma's to do some work for the next four days. I'll have internet access, but no access to pieces. (oh hey that has to do with travel. Solid.) I should prolly get building.

Out of 100+ creations, these 8 have been spindly (in some cases, remotely spindly). I'm tired of the comments that ask me to do something different than "spindly bipeds" or that say the creations aren't good because they are spindly. The spindliness is an intentional part of the design aesthetic. The creations wouldn't look right if they weren't spindly. Telling me to make these creations not spindly is like telling me to make this: into a dolphin. It just isn't gonna happen. So really, please stop telling me to stop making spindly things. I'm going to make them spindly when I feel that the spindliness is an appropriate part of the design. If it bugs you that much, trust me, I've got plenty of other MOCs that aren't spindly. Just felt like I needed to address that. P
