New LEGO Ninjago Battle Pack (853544) Discovered

A new LEGO Ninjago battle pack (853544) has been sighted in Europe, featuring four all-new minifigures: Tournament Zane, a new version of Samurai-X, and two Sky Pirate Foot Soldiers! Flickr user leninjamarron picked up a copy at Village Joué Club, a toy store in Paris, and put together a photo gallery showcasing the new figures and their packaging. This set contains 36 pieces total including weapons for all four characters, and can be expected to retail for $14.99 USD/$17.99 CAD/£10.99 GBP/€12.99 EUR. Finally a Ninjago Battle pack that's interesting. (And not just a rehash of characters already available in the cheapest sets.)

 

Well, in fairness, last year's Ninja Army Building Set only had two rehashed characters (Tournament Kai and Tournament Jay). The ghosts Wooo and Howla both had unique designs, which was noteworthy considering the ghost warrior/ghost ninja underlings from the other sets shared just three generic designs (one for Spyder/Hackler/Attila/Ming/Yokai, one for Pitch/Wail, and one for Cowler/Cyrus/Ghurka/Pyrrhus).

 

Overall, though, having all four designs be entirely unique makes this battle pack feel like a much better value than many similar packs from the past. For instance, 853570 Police Accessory Set is not much different 60127 Prison Island Starter Set, but the Accessory Set has 70% fewer bricks and a 50% higher price! All four figs in that Accessory Set are available elsewhere — in fact, all four figs and most of their accessories appear in 60130 Prison Island! But with this new Ninjago pack, all four figs are unique designs, so it's less like getting a watered-down starter set for an inflated price and more like getting four collectible minifigure packs and bonus weapons for a $1 discount!
