Thirty-three Twenty-six

No, Dokuma, not every entry in my blog deals with food. In fact, despite my having eaten two Italian chicken sandwiches for lunch both yesterday and today, you've just read every food reference to be found in this entry.   The Moss Bluff Cruisers are favored by 20 points over the visiting Caribe Sharks in this weekend's matchup. Yet I don't really care about perhaps breaking the .500 barrier for the first time this season. If I weren't sick, I'd be packing my bags for the weekend and getting on

Coming Up For Air

Geez, give the entire board premier privileges, and the floodgates are opened...what is it now, 120 new blogs today and counting?   I have to post something just to find my blog!   Okay, so what to post about.....   Ah, here we go. Today, we finished the sewer manhole surveys for RPC year 3. Let me let y'all in on what the frell that meant: Ever since I got this job, 97% of my time has been spent working on or with a sewer model of Jefferson Parish. It's not exactly what I went to graduate

Listing

No, I'm not compiling a bulletted set of points. Listing is what the Cruisers season is doing.   I left 3 touchdowns and 14 points in Josh Scobee on the bench, to fall miserably to the Metairie Mudbugs. At 5-6, any hope of the playoffs is on life support. 2 games out with 5 to play has become 2 games out with 3 to play, and I can't say I have much confidence this week, hosting the Harvey Hooligans. The Hooligans are a dead team: the owner hasn't checked the team in a month. However, with Tom

You're Wrong, Cecil.

This week's a busy one, so this might be the only entry this week. Wrapping up stuff in St. Tammany parish: this Huntwyck watershed bit is becoming more trouble than it's worth....to me, anyway. How I yearn for the simpler days when I could just piddle with the sewer model all day.   The Cruisers lost, 57-38. Jeff Wilkins and his 6 field goals, Terrell Owens and his 80 yards & a touchdown, and Byron Leftwich and his passing touchdown would've made a difference, but alas, all three rode pi

Requiem For A Skillet

Packing is a most arduous task with a 9-month-old in the house. One person must always be parted off to entertain the girl, and sometimes, one isn't enough. This is a new feature against the 3 previous moves in the past 7 years, and it's a bit of a trip.   One that has been constant through the past three moves has been a 10" non-stick skillet. A relatively heavy aluminum number done by Invitations, and I don't know if that's a store brand or what. All I know is that I've had it since my mom gav

Calling Out Your Name

<67 seconds of the finest down-tempo dulcimer solo ever recorded> Well the moon moved past Nebraska And spilled laughter on them cold Dakota Hills And angels danced on Jacob's stairs Yeah, they danced on Jacob's stairs There is this silence in the Badlands And over Kansas the whole universe was stilled By the whisper of a prayer The whisper of a prayer And the single hawk bursts into flight And in the east the whole horizon is in flames I feel thunder in the sky I see the s

Do You Know The Enemy

Firstly, apologies to all who thought this was a lyric entry. Green Day had nothing relevant to offer beyond the one line, so thief it I did.   It's been a rough September. Really rough. So rough that I can't go into details here, yet. Not to say that I will or won't. Those of you who know, know why I can't say anything at the moment. The other 99.3% of you who have know clue, will have to remain in the dark.   Those of you who know me, know that I'm a very loyal person. Those of you who don

Red Vs. Blue, Round 2

Nope, this isn't the earth-shattering announcement. It's not Saturday morning (except for you, <dd> ).   I should mention that Grace Presbyterian is one of the few, if not the only, team in the league with red uniforms. Since red is the color of a winner, you'd figure they'd be better or something. But they're rusty, and they were short-handed tonight.   The line score: Grace Presb. 0 0 1 0 0 0 1   2 FBC Kenner   1 2 3 2 2 0 X  10 F   And once again in the Kenner box score, batting 1

Blue Star

What do the Buffalo Sabres, Oakland Raiders, Silkeborg, UMass Minutemen, Lille, Αποελ Nicosia, LSU Tigers, the Ohio State/Michigan game, Mississippi State Bulldogs, and Maurice Jones-Drew have in common?   If you said "sports" or "athletics," you're about as close as I would expect anyone to get.   For the past two years, I've been playing a game called Streak for the Ca$h on ESPN. It's a simple little game: select one from a series of offered props on sporting events. Sometimes it's a simple as

One spot on an empty canvas One chair in an empty room No place for a revolution And no hope its signs are true We stand at the edge of something Will we ever know what it is? Hold on 'cause the wind is rising and we can't get away from it...... <4 bars of stream of consciousness guitar, piano & drums> We're in shock from the failed emotion No cause in a shadowed land And we sing while the city's burning With no room, no escape, no plan. Image borrowed from Wikipedia. Dune III it is not. Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn was the game that all but made the RTS genre. Released by Westwood Studios and [the now defunct] Virgin Interactive in 1995 as just "Command & Conquer", it had every element of turn-based strategy, but without the turns. Pitting a military arm of the U.N. called the Global Defense Initiative against the quasi-religious terrorist group the Brotherhood of Nod, this game packed a lot of effort into su

Doubling Up

First things first, I have never been more ashamed to be from Louisiana than I am today: William Jefferson (D-LA), who I toed the line in denouncing in my blog back in November, was indicted today on federal bribery & corruption charges. I will not address that topic for another couple of days, so that I don't post anything I will later regret. Just know that it did not go unnoticed.   We won a game I didn't expect to win: Riverside is having an off year, it would seem... Riverside  1 0

Here's To You, Mrs. Robinson

Another part of my childhood drops a degree of gleam.   Before many of your times, to be sure, but I remember Ms. Olivia the photographer.  In unrelated news this weekend, the Moss Bluff Cruisers, led by Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald, Jamaal Charles, and the Saints D/ST, vy for their first, and would-be only DEII Fantasy Football League Super Bowl title, opposing the Metry Mudbugs, who feature Phillip Rivers, Adrian Peterson, Knowshon Moreno, and Brandon Marshall. Return Of The Ordos

Today is launch day for Red Alert 3, and I do not have an advance copy.   In fact, I didn't even know the game existed until this past Sunday, when my brother called me while I was at the airport. (Why was I at the airport? I was getting €310 at a nice-ish rate for some spending money on the honeymoon next year: I have to expect to have passed the exam.)   The good news is that my computer can run the game. The bad news is that my brother can not. The worse news is that, in the process of se

Britannian Bliss...

Okay, so yesterday I was supposed to meet the cable guy between 1 & 3 PM to get my high speed internet turned on.   The technician Cox sent out is not a local, apparently. While he finished up the call before mine on Metairie Road at 3:30 (already late), he was 6 o'clock getting to my place. Why? He apparently was searching for my apartment off of Clearview Parkway, not Transcontinental Boulevard.   Mind you, there's a mile of subdivisions between those two streets.     But you know, it'

Confectionary Clash Of The Titans

The Cruisers defeated the Knights over the weekend, 53-35. Now at 4-4, the Cruisers are early 1½ point favorites over the visiting Caribe Sharks (third and final company principal, also 4-4 on the season), in a must-win-to-stay-within-striking-distance for both teams. Why? The Sharks lost a bad one to the Poplarville Stallions, and the Kastrators (still can't type that with a straight face) ran into the Dominion buzzsaw. We're both 2 games out with 6 to play, so there is almost no room for error

A Beautiful Day

196½ lb, 24.4% body fat   Yes, it is a nauseatingly beautiful day. Well, not nauseating: it'd only make you sick if you couldn't be outside to enjoy it. 88° F, and a few clouds in the horizon to break the gorgeous blue sky.   And I'm here at the office, working.   Last night, we finished that rainout/suspended game. Grace Presbyterian scored 9 runs in the top of the last inning to win 10-4. I couldn't get a called strike for anything than right down the pipe, so to speak. I couldn't defend m

http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/multimedia/gal...rs_to_Earth.jpg   I've been considering what to do with this little cubbyhole of the internet, and, I'm still considering. In the future, expect me to post some stuff about the politics and happenings of south Louisiana.   Also, some news stories & columns I pick up. No, nothing that would be rated M for Mature, but some of it would be over the typical high schooler's head. (If it's not, well, I feel sorry for the loss of your innocense.)

Requiem For The Poor & Irish

Finally.   Those of you (yes, all 6 of you) who have read through the archives know that I've played Team Fortress 2 for a while. In fact, I posted a quick screenshot some three years ago. Three years ago...wow. I'm happy to report that my 119th medal is golden, and I am known to still haunt a certain server set [who has their own forae and as such I won't link them here]. Though, if you go hunting for me on Steam, you'll find me with an avatar that looks awfully similar to the one I sport her
