... got Sims 1 to work again on my PC; apparently it had been a problem with video codecs or something... 'tis a nice nostalgic moment for me though, because I used to play that game a lot when I was younger. Even though I perceived it as incredibly hard to manage everything (and it is significantly more annoying than Sims 2 in that aspect, but hey, I did grow up a bit in the meantime xD) Now I just have to install the last expansion pack I have and *hope* that the workaround still works.
aka "I just finally found out what this thing actually does and feel stupid for not having done so earlier". :/ Find out what you work with. Give the functions their meanings, be actually interested. Look them up and keep notes on what you read. Don't just blindly attempt to solve the problem because you need it for that class.
Summer is not even over, but it's cold and rainy and grey. :/ I mean, if it's going to be like that all the time, sitting at home wearing an oversized, striped jumper and staring out at the rain miserably, it's really going to be an awesome autumn/fall. Okay, it's September, but that does not justify the cozy 15 degrees (Celsius, mind you. Should be around 59°F, I guess?) outside. At all.
Whoo. Now if only I could remember what I usually blog about... O.o (in other words, lost 2 weeks because I was on vacation -> limited internet and time. but now I'm back, yaaay. ._.)
'cause apparently I can change my display name again, but the best thing I've come up with so far is "Hipster Elf", and even I don't find it that funny... anyways, currently looking for a fantasy-themed name. I'm just not overly original.
This is way too small a thing to put into a topic in GA. So I put it here. There's not much to say about it, please don't mind my awful handwriting. ^^
(clickable thumbnail, as always ^^) Just a small thing I scribbled a few days ago; I was mainly focusing on the colours rather than the character's proportions (that's also why his left shoulder seems dislocated/not properly attached to the rest of his body). As you can see I'm also awful when it comes to drawing trees, perspective and light falling through water. :> I'm quite satisfied with the overall mood of the thingie, though.
I really enjoy it, particularly in a party-based RPG... recently I also finally dared to start skilling them in a way so that they rely purely on their magic (read: no investing in combat skills whatsoever); it's all fun and games until my elven spellweaver decides to charge head-first into the fight mid-battle with nothing but his bare hands because he can (or because astral energy/mana/what have you ran out ). D: and all that despite me having set him to "passive". :/
(clickable thumbnail) I started doing stuff with Blender again, yay. This time properly, with sketch underneath and everything - and I have to say that this way better. I get much furher in the same time, and don't have to constantly check proportions to make sure everything lines up properly. (clickable thumbnail, again) Yep. We'll see how far I can get, but I am actually quite optimistic. This is working a lot better than my previous try from last year, and I am delighted to see
And fittingly for the beginning of July and the "proper" holidays we actually had some sunshine again, which I used to take some photographs around our garden; mostly just random flowers and blossoms and stuff. Like this (there's a bee too. Just thought I'd add this in case someone's got an insect phobia, you never know...)
...includes realizing that someone I'd considered a friend probably doesn't want to spend time with me outside of university at all. Only took me 2 years to fully figure that out, and the effect on my ego was a-maze-ing. I am not good with people, I take way too long to get used to them, thus probably missing the point where they make up their mind about whether I'm okay company or not. Or maybe I'm just annoying and exhausting to cope with. (I bet I am, due to my never-ending attempts of b
I got some new ballpoint pens today, all in different colours, 10 of them, and obviously they are suitable for drawing. Which makes me a lot happier than it should.
Never not relevant. Anyway, tomorrow's gonna be fun - exam in the morning, and presentation in the afternoon! C: but then I'm at least done with all this for 2 months... awww....
...is a battle if you're using LaTeX and have never done anything like it before. (I may point out that this code is probably poorly written and not exactly elegant, but it works so I am happy.~) The documentation of the beamer class is helpful though, as is the internet. Took only between 3 and 4 hours to understand how it works (read: grasp the basics of the basics behind it ^^), but at least now my presentation is held in friendly greens. :3 (maybe not the most prefessional colours, but hey
Silly paint scribble from roughly ten minutes ago; resized so as to get rid of the squigglyness of the lines, although this was done with a graphics tablet... so yeah. The text is supposed to read "DRAMA~", BTW. ^^ Last week before summer break has always been the most annoying, stressful and evil thing there is. ><
Yesterday I finally filled the last page of my sketchbook, which is actually more of a notepad that I carry around with me everywhere I go... but yeah, after six months it's been done. Not all is drawings, obviously, a few pages were sacrificed for science (so to speak), however, that thing's done now. I used to fill them within 2-3 months' time, what happened. D: It is a milestone for me though, because it means I'm finally overcoming a dark period of not drawing regularly at all*. I am pro
The second one's going to be more fun, for it's waaay shorter, and on a topic I can choose myself. In my case, it's going to be about comics with a very short intro guide on how to make them yourself. I guess I might make the last part into a proper tutorial in case anyone's interested (it'd be short, though, since altogether I'll only be able to talk about it for roughly 4 minutes...) Best part: Illustrations! =D Worst part: I probably will take too long, as I could go on and on about this
there. scanned version's much better. :3 Focusing is hard, especially when my ballpoint pens are exceptionally sufficient (read: great!) for drawing. You would not believe what nonsense I doodled today... from ballet-dancing octopi to a dude who has just been turned into a fairy... argh. It's too warm, I think my brain's boiling. ><
Well I told you that I'm learnig how to make gifs... anf obviously forgot that my hands were rather shaky while filming this. Oh well. As you can see I still decided to erase parts of the background, leading to this slightly surreal effect... but hey, the gif's under 500kB, so some shakiness is a price I am willing to pay. Also, I just hand-edited 45 frames because I don't know better, and I won't undo that. >< So what we have here is a bridge rectifier with some LEDs to indicate the cur
I spent the past 4 days (including today) working on a presentation for that Scientific Publishing course... dang, that's more work than I thought it'd be. I mean, at least I have to deal with stuff I already kinda know (creating and editing images in Gimp and Inkscape)... but there's also some stuff I didn't know (that pstricks package... seems to be surprisingly powerful, but it's also a bit confusing) I'd also never written a presentation in LaTeX before. That stuff looks wild. D: The resul
I guess it went sorta well, although I did talk a bit too fast once or twice... but oh well, to quote the scorpions: I leave it all behind me now so many miles away. (song: The Zoo) So yeah, only a second, very short presentation left, then I'm done with that course, too.
... for example, going by subway, happening to sit in front of some random stranger you find sort of attractive* and not having anything to doodle on with you, which means that you can only resort to either staring at them or intensively looking anywhere else but at them, both while feeling that you're visibly blushing. ...thankfully I did find some scrap paper to occupy my hands. incredibly tiny, frayed scrap of paper.** Oh well, better than nothing. *or, like a week ago, someon
