RIP Carrie Fisher

She passed away this morning at 8:55, at the age of only 60.   Not to be too darkly humorous too soon, but it looks like they killed off the wrong character in The Force Awakens. Ben Solo is probably going to get orders from Snoke to kill off his mother now, to make his turn to the dark side even more complete. And they had better step up their CGI technology from Rogue One if they want to shoot that scene.   Also, if it's true that only the good die young, then Carrie was a good, good person. T

Blade Runner 2049 Review

When did I watch the original? Was it six years ago? It's been a while. The main things that I remember were the cons of having little story or character investment, but the pro of having more atmosphere than the planet Jupiter. So atmospheric.   Its sequel (and unofficially also the sequel to La La Land, if you think about it) manages to find a decent common-ground between the two. I felt that it had more story, and most definitely more likable characters, while also having a ridiculous amount

Got Gresh?

I finally got him yesterday. In this blog entry, I'm not going to give him an official review of the set, but I'm going to tell you my thoughts and feelings after getting the Monster Gresh that I didn't have when I only had canister images and an advertisement with awesome action but a cheesy announcer. Let me tell you first the process of buying him, which was interesting in and of itself.   I walked to Wal*Mart, in temperatures below zero with killer wind chill, all just to buy Strakk and th

Wet Bandits vs. Muhammad Ali

Who would win in a fight?   Serious question. I mean, Muhammad Ali is a pretty tough guy, but realistically, not even he would be able to survive the stuff that the Wet Bandits, specifically Marv, survived in the first two Home Alone movies. Do you honestly think that Muhammad Ali could knock out Marv? Granted, Marv doesn't pack much of a punch, so he wouldn't be able to knock out Muhammas Ali, either, so where are we at now? Honestly, who would win?   24601

Like a turd in the wind

Let me be clear. No, I will not watch Venom. No interest. Zero. None. He's a pretty cool villain, but I want his origins done right. I want him to show up in a storyline with Peter Parker. Peter Parker must be a well-developed character who has gone through multiple character arcs. The symbiote should be the stimulus that takes him to a new level. After all, it messes with his personality. It's a cool way to take a character that's normally light-hearted and make him a little more seri

Philosophy Quips And The Movie Taken

I was thinking about it and I realize there are different types of philosophy. There's life philosophy, which was the type that I was referring to in my last two topics. But then there's stuff like my writing philosophies, which are the underlying archetypes within my mind that define my opinions on literature. Yet, I'm a little weary of saying "writing philosophy", since how is that different from saying "writing opinions"? I don't like the idea of the two words being interchangeable. For

Opening Ceremony

As I write this, the opening ceremony is in full swing. It's actually very cool.   The opening part was kind of boring. I understand where they're coming from, showing the transformation from agrarian to industrial society, but the agrarian aspect was a bit subtle for an event about pomp and circumstance. I don't know how you could build into the industrial revolution dramatically enough without a small beginning, though.   The revolution, however, was really cool, and in keeping with the spi

Seriously, the one thing that I didn't get in 2008 was why no one exploited this incredibly obvious pun. People make any and every pun possible during election season.   Merida

Bad Reymance

A lot of people were shipping Rey and Finn. And to be honest, while they're both outsiders, I never thought that they had enough in common. She was a determined, heroic person and a believer in ideals (and the return of her parents). Finn was a coward and too pathetic. It's way too imbalanced to work out.   Rey and Poe makes a little more sense, since they have many more personality traits in common. If Rey is in fact a Skywalker, it would fit with family tradition to marry the best fighter

9th Most Beautiful Female Character

9 - Luna Lovegood     She was what got me really excited to see The Half-Blood Prince. Hermoine usually gets all the credit for being the cool female lead, but I prefer Luna instead. She's smart, since she's in Ravenclaw, but in that way that requires abstract thinking. It sort of makes her an oddball, but then consider just how odd everything is in the Potterverse. I'd say she adjusted quite well.   What really stands out about her is that she's pure. What you see with her is what you get.

Political Meet and Greet

I met my representative, Steve King, for the first time. Before delving into deeper discussion, I broke the ice by admitting that television makes everyone look better (the implication being he's ugly, which he kind of is if I'm to be completely honest; he took it in stride). We ended up talking about some serious things that aren't necessarily talking points, although I wasn't able to get to him on the one about wallabies. I'm disappointed that he was at the political townhall meeting, actually

Gratuation: My Cousin's Party

I put on my bowtie and visited my cousin's graduation party on May 12, the week before graduation. When I arrived, the number of pictures hit me.   He didn't throw the party alone. He had a couple of good friends share the event. It was something I had wanted to do, though nobody wanted to cooperate with me. Then I looked at all of their pictures they had growing up. Almost every single picture was taken with friends while participating in strange and grand events that I knew nothing about.

The Dark Knight Rises Gunman

A gunman in Aurora, Colorado recently walked in to a screening for The Dark Knight Rises fully loaded with weapons and open-fired on the audience, killing 12 and wounding 38. Among his tools included tear gas, a shot-gun, and assault rifle, a pistol, and SWAT team garb. He claimed to the the Joker and the arch-nemesis of Batman.   This is clearly a sick, twisted individual. I don't know why he did what he did, and frankly it's not my concern. What matters is that people are dead, and they ca

Coming Next: The Bourne Legacy

I will be watching the midnight premiere of The Bourne Legacy in a few hours and writing my review within a few days. This will be the first time that I ever watch a sequel or remake in the theatres without being completely caught up with the series. Of the preceding films, I have only seen The Bourne Identity once upon a time, not so long after it came out. Therefore, when I review the film, I will judge it by its merits as a standalone and draw no comparisons to the other instalments unless

Iniuri

Background   Iniuri is one of my planned constructed languages for a series of mine called the IDES. Its name comes from Toa Hagah Iruini. Back in the day, when I was really unoriginal with my stories, I came up with a fictional battle where Norik and Iruini fought alongside my Neopet, Kraggh, as his noble generals. Kraggh was a conqueror who diplomatically added the world of Bionicle to his interdimensional empire. As you might have guessed, this is where I got my old username from. Later,

Impossible Sequels

There are certain movies that you simply cannot make sequels to. I can only imagine how bad these sequels would be.   Titanic 2: I once looked up Titanic on Google Image search and found a parody poster of this. Hardly any description is needed to advance the humor of this ridiculous idea. Although the poster did include the catch phrase "Jack is Back".   Schindler's List 2: The Alternative History of Minor Events that are Minutia Compared the Main Event: If it's a really good and noble movie

Endgame: No Spoilers

In a nutshell, if you haven't seen it yet, here's what you should expect going in: The previous films didn't require watching all of the rest of the MCU to hold up on their own. You absolutely have to watch all of the other MCU films to appreciate this one. This movie is basically a celebration of the entire MCU. The movie has an extreme editing challenge. The last one focused on Thanos, but this one focuses on the six original Avengers. It gives it a definite Lord of the Rings: Return of

Superman and Der Übermensch as Conflicting Roots for Worldview

The following is a worldview illustration, for worldviews are like tree trunks. The trunk begets the limbs which beget the twigs which beget the leaves, representing individual opinions and applications. In all its complexity, everything is derivative of the core idea, the trunk. Illustration enters into metaphor in the form of roots, which are the many arguments that support and form a basis for the worldview trunk. The argument here is made by comparing the end results of two classic liter

Manly Man #5

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihVPxjno3Yw       The greatest man anyone can ever encounter is his father, and let us pray that our fathers are good men. In these men rest the foundations of every future adult. For no one was this sacred duty more important than Jonathan Kent, and few could have qualified for the tremendous task at hand for him and his wife, Martha. His son was no ordinary boy, who would grow up to become no mere man. There are good fathers and bad fathers, terrible fathe

How to Improve French

Take all of its most charming features and compound upon them!   The country is called Fraiçzzaeioux (pronounces "Froz"). The language is called Fraiçzzeieiolluoixs (pronounced "Fras-wa!").   Chinese can also be improved. I propose that the name of the Chinese language be pronounces as Han125. The superscript means that it is pronounced with the 125st tone out of 625 tones. The character will take 744 strokes to complete, and be dozens of shade-sensitive colors. The colors are morphemic.

Argentina

This may seem cruel of me, but I always root for Argentina to get silver. That's why one day I hope that the Argentinians face off against Team USA in the final round instead of the semi-final round in basketball. Anyway, I hope they beat Spain and at least get bronze.

IT'S THE DEMOGORGON

BOOM!   On the weekend before Halloween, I went to visit an old friend that I hadn't seen in nearly two years (although we have regularly talked over the phone), and somewhat fittingly, we watched Stranger Things. I instantly fell in love with the 80's vibe, and with those adorable little kids. I also absolutely fell in love with Eleven as well. I saw a friend of a friend dress up as her, shaved head and all. Plus, she was carrying a box of Eggos, which made me laugh.   I was going to write

Superman's Weaknesses: The Next Generation

We have justified his most famous weaknesses. We have examined the downsides to his abilities. Now it's time to invent some new problems for the Man of Steel. Considering that the Silver Age Superman was a bastion for creativity, it only seems fitting to be creative here and come up with some of the wildest things.   First, however, there's a weakness that has been in the running for a while but has long gone unmentioned, something that just might be his next Kryptonite if authors choose to g
