Elven Castle -- First Draft

It's only been twenty days since my first Ideas project was approved and already I'm working on something new, inspired by something I never thought I'd be inspired by: the whining of Brickset AFOLs.     Introducing the Elven Castle, a set idea based on the beloved Castles of Lego Castle past, with an elven twist. Much inspired by the works of Tolkien, I wanted it to look less like it was made of wood and more like it was grown from it. The build is very modular and a little repetitive, but thi

E3 Opinions

Microsoft: Had, like, one game that interested me, Ori and the Blind Forest. The other games felt too repetitive and dull. I am sick of military FPSes. Not even Ori was enough to get me excited about the Xbone, though.   EA: Started strong with the Star Wars and the cello, but then ALL THE FEELSUH and it all went downhill from there. If I wanted to play sports, I'd go outside.   Ubisoft: Boring, dull, repetitive, just like the other two. Nothing really called out to me. Just Dance and the exerci

Dakotaraptor steini

So! They recently described a specimen of a new large dromaeosaurid from a formation I unfortunately cannot name on BZPower. It was a contemporary of Tyrannosaurus rex, and it notably preserves quill knobs on the arm bone, giving us direct evidence of feathers. As a very close relative of Utahraptor, and of comparable size, it's safe to conclusively say anyone claiming Utahraptor was too big to be feathered is a moron.   Anyway, since I occasionally dream of being a palaeoartist, here's my recon

D&D

don't worry this isn't a revival of that blog fad   I recently joined a D&D campaign being run by a friend of mine due to start next week and have been enjoying setting up my character. Just today, I drew her, and I figured it would be entirely relevant to my BZP blogging habits to post the picture.     Her name is Hjördís Ermentrud. She is of a fictional race called the Darkrunners, who are basically humanoid Velociraptors. My friend was happy to inform me that they can be completely feath

Crashing the Lileep Market

having finished the Hoenn Dex, I'm now moving on to completing the National Dex to make SRing for the remaining legendaries much less painful. Granted, I already had decent luck, but Entei streched on for longer than I would have liked.   How I'm doing this is hatching Lileep. Lileep after Lileep after Lileep. I toss one into the GTS asking for the Pokemon I need, and almost without fail, I get it.   While I've been doing this, I've also bee watching Psych to keep myself entertained, because hat

Cool Shocking Non-Cliché Endings To Stories

the protags die in chapter one. villain wins and gloats for the rest of the book everything explodes for no reason in the last chapter it suddenly switches to the end of a completely different story without resolving the previous one twelve straight pages of “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA”

Continuation Vs. Reboot

Okay, imagine this: imagine if, in order to understand any new Transformers series, you had to watch the entirety of the G1 cartoon.   Now, imagine if, instead of running for three years, it ran for ten.   Now imagine if it wasn't actually a cartoon, but a story splattered across books, comics, online serials, winning BZP stories, and random answers from the author lost to time.   Now imagine if it didn't gain a massive following, but more of a niche audience, when it first aired, thus making ac

Common Knowledge

I thought that Bionicle had garbage gender ratios was an accepted fact at this point. It is, in fact, the most moderate thing that can be said on the issue.   Apparently I was wrong.   (this is in reference to something off-site, not any of the topics I have posted in.)

commencing micromanagement

the reason my hand is in the picture is I found that the Micromanager is both top-heavy and front-heavy and thus falls flat on its face when you try to stand it up. I suspect that's why there are no movie-accurate micromanagers in the sets.

Classic BZP

Remember back in 2010-2012 when if you so much as whispered the word "gay" your blog would explode in controversy as people tried to tell you you're wrong and disgusting as passive-aggressively as possible?   Haha. Good times.   Old BZP was terrible.   (of course now I can say I'm a lesbian all I want thanks to the work of the administration :3 )

Can we canonize the Cleatus videos?

Serious question here. Can we get them at least partially canonized by Greg Farshtey?   The first episode is easy. Witch Doctor escaped in the Breakout, and we never really learn HOW he was recaptured, so the first video is clearly documenting this. I think it can easily be 100% canon.   The second video is more difficult, as we see the entirety of Black Phantom's role in Breakout, so as far as partial canonization goes, I'm afraid episode 2 is squarely non-canon.   Episode three is only partial

BZPower Comics Culture

Let's start this off simply: I have been a member of the BZPower comics community since December of 2007, or almost seven years now. I've been involved in this community for longer than Dark709 at this point (as he started making comics in 2004, and left the site in '09-'10). As such, I'd like to think I've learned a lot about the interesting sort of culture that has formed there for practically a decade now.   If I had to describe it, and if I weren't prone to theatrics at the time, I'd describ

Bring Back Hero Factory Club

So, as of today, Bionicle's return in 2015 is confirmed. Which means LEGO is banning the Hero Factory toyline, even though it's story didn't even get to finish. That's why I want all the fans of Hero Factory to come together and barrage LEGO with complaints. Demand LEGO finish Hero Factory! Bring back my favorite toyline! Force LEGO to repeal the ban on Hero Factory! Who's with me?

Brickfair VA Recap

I was initially going to write a recap each day, but I turned out to not have the energy required, so here's just an overall recap.   First things first: I am never riding the bus again. It's noisy, the bus rattles like it's being shaken apart, and some dude vomited in one on the way home. There was nothing pleasant about this experience.   The convention, meanwhile, was quite enjoyable. One of the first things I purchased was a big bag of Galidor parts, and boy did I have fun. I even won a MISB

Brickfair

So I'm probably going to regret thinking about this in the morning when I'm fairly less sleep-deprived and bold but I guess I'm actually considering attending Brickfair VA this year??? I've never been there before and the idea of planning my own trip as an adult is daunting but I guess this is something I'm seriously considering?   Right now, the biggest obstacle is travel. Living in Minnesota pretty much means being halfway across the country from everything, and that includes Brickfair. Travel
