A few entries ago I mentioned I'd tell you all when it sunk in that I was going to move across the country to work for Microsoft. Having just moved across the country to work for Microsoft, I can inform you all it has yet to sink in. (Apartment's quite nice, though.)
If anyone ever asks you if you want to get up at 5 in the morning to drive 150 miles to take on other universities in puzzles, trivia, coding, word association, and (most importantly) Lego building, say yes and don't look back. I might work at Microsoft, but man I love Google sometimes.
Until I'm moved in on the West Coast (give or take an hour). Tomorrow will be spent packing, Saturday will be spent flying. Last Saturday, I graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science (and honors) in Computer Science, a certificate in Japanese, and - thanks to a combination of my parents being able to save up for the past twenty years, a scholarship, in-state tuition rates, and a couple of internships - no debt. (The fact that last bit makes me the exception rather than the rule is a bit depressing.) I had a few research-related things to take care of Monday and Tuesday, but now - it's over. Like legit done

There are two things I took away from my time at Valve: 1. The people who work there are incredibly driven, intelligent, and dedicated to what they do. The work environment they've established for themselves enables them to guarantee that anything that goes out with their name on it is something they are immensely proud of. 2. All things considered? Today? Pretty cool. First off, it was my first pay day at Microsoft. Corporate policy and social etiquette prohibit me from saying how much I made, but I can provide a visual analogy for you to draw your own conclusions from.
