Good News Bad News

Good news: Secured a thesis advisor for next fall Things are mostly sorted out for moving back to Seattle in a month Got a letter back from my good friend Cederak Continuing to jot down story ideas, looking forward to sitting down and writing this summer Bad news: Presentation on Monday Debate on Tuesday OS project on Thursday Graphics project on Friday Sick Long story short, my mild work-induced inactivity has grown to complete work-induced inactivity, and will remain that way until

Wanted: One(+?) Story Reader

With all the excitement over Bionicle 2015, I really got in the mood to write another story! Something straightforward, in the spirit of things, nothing too complex.   So of course I wrote a sequel to my very first fic, which was... a bit timey-wimey, canon-heavy, mind-bending, and generally kind of everything I think people are trying to dodge with Bionicle 2015. And this new story doesn't really break that pattern.   But! It's still a good story, or at least I think it is, or at least I hope i

Fair bricks

Since all the cool kids are doing it (and to explain where I'll be this weekend): I'm going to Brickfair as well! However due to work scheduling stuff and vacation limits I'm only going to be there from about 11 AM on Friday to about 5 PM on Sunday. I'm crashing with Black Six and Dina Saruyama at the inn near the convention center. I'm hoping I can meet as many people as I can during that time, but, we'll see!   See y'all there (who are going)! (See all the rest of y'all back on the internet.

I'm writing an epic, apparently

I promise, it wasn't on purpose, things just got out of hand. It's over here, so take a gander. It's got Hahli, and that one alternate-universe Teridax who turned out to be a good guy and then got left in the dust by the storyline ending, and Rahkshi, and other fun stuff.   It started as a short story, so the bulk of the thing's written. Expect three chapters.   Feedback is awesome as always.

Onwards

There goes 2014. Here comes 2015.   I missed the turn of the year around here due to some bad stuff (family health problems) followed by some good stuff (spending a long weekend with some BZP folks), but I'm back now. In a few weeks I'll be marking my 12th year as a member (even if it's only something like my fifth active one), which continues to be bizarre to think about.   But I'm looking forward to 2015 here! Those prompts people submitted are still coming, no worries - and one or two of them

Ssc9 And Other Stuff

Draft of my SSC9 entry is done; hopefully I'll have time to give it some polish tomorrow and/or Sunday. I could try and revise now, but I've found it always helps to wait a day or two between draft and revision. It's rather different from the previous two fics I've put up; for one thing, it actually follows the perspective of just one character. Imagine that! Still needs a title, though; I always wind up doing those late.   In other news, logging plenty of time into Mass Effect 3, though I'm g

Smiles and Tears

I haven’t lived even half as long as adults have, but I do have plenty of memories in my backpack My favorite baseball cap, my sneakers with worn-out heels Deep in my pocket is my worn-down guitar pick There were some things sad enough to make tears come out, but you were always by my side I thought of the two of us as just friends the whole time I probably loved you without ever realizing it     We walked while we laughed, played, and got hurt I realized it as we took shortcuts and went in c

Cascade

I am super, super timely with these entries.   Basically: I had a really fun time! I got to see a lot of friends again, and I got to meet a lot of folks IRL for the first time, even if in a few cases that involved slightly awkwardly standing around the Bionicle tables while people we knew better were busy elsewhere.   Also there were some ridiculously good MOCs, and Roa was nice enough to show the gold mask (alongside the MOC that won it) - very cool!   And Kakaru ran through the falling cherry

Here comes Justice

New avatar! It's been a good five months or so of Child's Play, but I think it's time to retire it until later this year, when the drive picks up again in earnest.   In the meantime, though, Ace Attorney 5 finally got some more solid details, including the return of Apollo Justice as a playable character. Apollo was the star of the fourth game of the series, and while he kind of got overshadowed by Phoenix, I loved his personality and am really glad to see he'll be playing a major role in the fi

The Shadow and the Sea: Two of Three

The nice bit about posting an epic you know will only be three parts is that you can make an entry for every chapter without clogging up your blog!   In any event, it's over here. Feedback is awesome as always, and fingers crossed the third and final part'll be up rather sooner.

Whoops!

Somehow I actually made 1500 hits on my signature within 24 hours. Looks like I'm going to need to find a different randomizer (or just be boring and stick to one banner, but where's the fun in that?)   I am enjoying my new avatar, though. Greg's derp face was nice, but I think young Ray's constant panic better suits my mood around here most days, especially if I've been writing.

Not Going to NYCC

Oh geez, 11 years

Uh so technically I got this shiny new spinny yesterday but also technically it is still the 18th in some parts of the world so this entry is only mostly late.   However, I have an excuse! Well, excuses, plural. One was packing to head back to uni for my last semester. Another was working on research ahead of classes starting up Tuesday.   Third and most important was The World's End. And if you've seen that movie, you know there is a line in it that I would love to be able to put in a BZP- or L

I Finally Got It!

I was saying to Hahli Husky and Velox that there was some phrase for the Library Olympics, but I couldn't recall it for the life of me...   Until now! I can't believe I forgot!     I mean, it was so obvious.

New Story: "Echoes"

Remember that story I mentioned the other week? The one that was written in part to celebrate Bionicle 2015 and wound up "a sequel to my very first fic, which was... a bit timey-wimey, canon-heavy, mind-bending, and generally kind of everything I think people are trying to dodge with Bionicle 2015?"   Well, you can read it now! While reading "Fractures" first is recommended, it's not absolutely necessary. I hope you enjoy this little story, and as always, any kind of feedback is tremendously ap

On Crossovers

I like crossovers.   There, I said it. It's a statement that doesn't really reflect well on my personal taste - after all, when most people hear "crossover", their brain translates it to either "cashgrab" or "unspeakably bad fanfiction" depending on the context. (Note: if the context is comics, "continuity nightmare" is also acceptable.) There's not really much I can do to argue against that - for proof of the former, direct yourself to any number of nonsensical promotional crossovers (recent

It's Been A Pretty Good Month

First month of 2012 is on it's way out. Dunno about the rest of you, but for me it was pretty good for a couple different reasons.   On the gaming side of things, we got so much Ace Attorney news this month that I could jump for joy. The live-action movie got good reviews and is slated for international release at some point; Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney has a very high-quality studio doing its animation; and of course Ace Attorney 5 was finally announced. I remember the leadup to Apollo
