How To Do Stuff

Edits are fine. Edits are wonderful. However 1: MSpaint USUALLY does not suffice for editting: the program was created to draw on the computer, not to perform advanced photomanipulation, which is what Photoshop and other stuff is for. 2: If editting is your thing, if filters and adjustments and cut-and-paste and color alterations really make you tick, if it runs in your very soul, that's wonderful! I'd love to see something by you. If you edit just because it mak funee piktur or because you hope

Hot Zone

Ooooooh it is one of the SCARIEST books I've ever read. Not scary like Stephen-King-psychotic-killer scary. I mean, it's a dramatized TRUE STORY, and the implications are incredible.   The Hot Zone by Richard Preston tells the true story of government agencies rushing to contain a possible outbreak of the deadliest virus alive, in the United States, barely miles from Washington D.C. It goes into very gruesome detail concerning the effects of Ebola and Marburg on the bodies of its victims. It's

Honor

TAKE THE FREAKIN' BRIBE ACHILLEUS.   Like seriously, what was up with those Ancient Greeks?   So I'm on Book 9 of the Iliad, and I get to the part where Agamemnon spends something like fifty lines listing all the stuff he'll give Achilleus if the latter will be persuaded to rejoin the battle. And I'm like, "Holy geez, that's a lot of stuff. Like, a seriously huge amount of stuff."   And obviously Achilleus refuses.   WHAT THE HECK.     In other news, I'm up to episode 8 of Lain. Every time

Heroes!

Yay plot twists I didn't see coming!   Yay prettyful special effects!   Yay complex plot and ensemble cast!   Yay being able to understand a surprising amount of the Japanese Hiro and Ando spoke. I mean, I don't suppose I could understand it without the subtitles but I recognized several words, "omae" you "boku" me "sekai" world (as in, save the world; heard that a lot ) "unmei" destiny (heard that several times too. Lol Hiro) and there weren't many very complicated sentences.   Can't wait

Harry Potter

In a few minutes I will be following a lead that says Columbia's Lerner bookstore is having a Harry Potter party, and since it's official, RA's will be there, which means we're allowed to be out past curfew. It's not curfew yet, so if it turns out that there isn't actually a party there, I can still come back.   On a completely unrelated note:     And since apparently Maj has no issues with "public" folders...   Click here for gallery   I'm quite happy that I managed to get shots of red du

Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy year of the ox/cow! Yay for ambiguously translatable words! =D   I don't actually have a relevant image, so how about an update on the CG. I'm probably gonna change the shading a lot or just completely redo it cel-style...     Oh, and how could I miss an opportunity to plug 52-pickup?   HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR I'M ON TOPIC OKAY.

Happy Birthday Bzp! ^^

Well, among other things it's Tohu's fifth birthday today! Or, this week. Sometime in this recent period of time. Whatever.   Happy Birthday!   Yep, wonder what's going to happen to this once the week is over, but whatever. Thanks for givin' us normal members Premier benefits for the week, admins. You guys rock.   Well, so this is a blog, great... uhhh...   I drew a new picture today! Photoshop, about... I don't know, two hours?     And here's the topic   Yep, in honor of what the rest

Halloween Doodlings

Doodled on English notes, vector'd in Photoshop.   I also made another agenda doodle in the Oct 31 box, and gave that a quick color too.   Aaaah Nia is so much fun to draw! Altho the tiny scale I've gotten used to doodling things on isn't exactly doing wonders for my detail work.   So I set both my alarms last night, for 5:05 and 5:15. Turn it up to max volume. I wake up to hear my clock beeping and go "Great, I woke up at the planned time!"   Look at the clock, it's 5:58.   I SLEPT THROUGH

Half An Hour

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is sitting on my dorm room bed right now.   I haven't even been able to muster the concentration to realize the sheer magnitude of this event in popular literature. I'm far too sleepy. I'm sure tomorrow I'll wake up fully refreshed and say to myself: "OH MY GOsh I OWN THE SEVENTH HARRY POTTER BOOK." Right now my brain is just sorta buzzing "cool..."   I'm not even yawning or anything... it's a really weird feeling, but I can't describe it right now because

Gym

Today was my last day of high school gym.   EVER.   HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!   Okay, granted, it's getting replaced with Health, but I can sit down in Health, don't have to go through the hassle of changing, can doodle, and possibly sleep.   Also, National Latin Exam results are back! I got a gold! That makes four years in a row, which means I get the fancy $70 Oxford Classical Dictionary for free! =D The other two kids in my class who were also in the running for the dictionary (3 years in a row) al

Guess Where I'm Going Tomorrow?

I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!   YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!   I'm sooooo excited.   I'll be gone 'till Friday.   Oh, and evil? Thy name is spring break assignment.   IT'S CALLED SPRING BREAK FOR A REASON!   Ah well. For seven days, I'm going to forget about homework. Bring along the sketchbook. Maybe a couple good books.   It's gonna be AWESOME.   Slightly regret that I'm going to miss April Fools, but I'll find out what happened when I get back.   See ya!

Grammar Question!

Okay, so if you're comparing two things, you have to use the comparative, e.g. "Comparing the red car and the blue car, the red car is faster," and you can't say "the red car is fastest."   If you're comparing three or more things, however, you use the superlative, e.g. "Comparing the red, yellow, and blue cars, the red car is fastest," and you can't say "the red car is faster."   What if, however, you've got three things, but you talk about two of them compared to the third? As in, "Comparing

Grammar Check

I'm writing my English summer reading essay, right? Microsoft Word does not agree with me. Word says that the "who" should be a "whom." I tried restructuring the sentence so I could analyze it...   The ultimate denial of truth (subject) that Palmer Eldritch commits (relative clause) is (linking verb) to literally become someone other than who he really is (???).   Anyone really good at grammar out there (I feel weird asking that on a site like this) who has some thoughts on this?   Anyway,

Got In!

Accepted to Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science. =D   That leaves Columbia and Cooper and Columbia already said I'm practically in, only not committing to anything yet, so it's pretty much just Cooper.   And then... comes the decision... *shudder*

Gold!

GUESSWHATGUESSWHATGUESSWHAT!?   Two BIG newseses with Latin!   Firstly, WE GOT THE RESULTS OF THE NATIONAL LATIN EXAM BACK AND GUESS WHAT!?   You know what I scored out of 40? THIRTY. NINE. Only one question wrong! And I know which one, too.   Gold medal, HECK yes! I don't need to take the Latin final!   Also, yesterday night I was inducted into the National Junion Classical League LATIN HONOR SOCIETY!   There's something for the college app.   Also, on a completely unrelated note...

Go Mark Twain!

Now that I'm old enough to appreciate the non-dumbed-down little-kid abridged versions of good ol' Samuel Clemens' work, I find it highly entertaining. Mark Twain was a very funny man. We're doing Huck Finn in English class right now, and the way he writes the situations and how so many characters have NO idea what they're talking about...   Like the scene where Tom Sawyer is forming their little "Band of Robbers" and talking about killing people and robbing them (naturally, we're talking a gro
