We explored our Mount Washington hotel thoroughly. We saw the Gold Room, where the setting up of and signing of the International Monetary Fund took place, and a few old fuses - well, I thought they were old. It turns out that the fuses, part of the original wiring put in by Thomas Edison, were actually still partially in use.   Honestly it sounds like a fire hazard, but I'm not an electrician.   We decided to skip the treacherous Mount Washington Auto Road due to the fact that it's a private ro

What I Don't Understand

Nuju Metru does not play any G&T games. He does not MOC. He does not participate in any RPGs.   Nuju Metru has 6519 posts, 13 per day.   That's what I don't understand. How does he do it?   -=< >=-

For the past few years, my sole request for this holiday is to experience one where the floor doesn't vibrate from nearby fireworks.   I doubt I'll ever experience that.

Blogarithm Contest #1: Strange PMs: Results! Winners And the winners are... -Toa Lhikevikk- Herculesss ChocolateFrogs and Lolwut Meso Spaegefefrwewr Due to the nature of this contest and the wide range which can be considered "random", I have picked four winners instead of the planned three. The Great American Road Trip II - 26 - Deep in the Heart of Texas

After breakfast, we re-packed our bags and headed out of Santa Fe bound for Lubbock at 10:35. We gassed up before exiting Santa Fe and took I-25 northbound (but the section we were on confusingly took us southwest) before exiting on US-285.   This drive was the epitome of boring. While one lane in both directions, passing other vehicles was incredibly rare due to the deserted nature of the route. We've gotten to the foothills of the Rockies now, with the mountains of previous days turning into h

Blogarithm Contest #10 WINNER!

The winner of Blogarithm Contest #10 is ...   Paleo!   Brickeens came in second, while xccj and The Puppeteer tied for third.   Now, I'm going to have to be up-front about the prize. Originally, I had a brick engraved with "Dreams About Farm Animals." This, as you may remember, was a prize in Blogarithm Contest #7, which Paleo won. So, to keep with the promise of an engraved brick, I'll be in contact with Paleo about a slightly different prize.   Overall, it was an excellent turnout—the last BBC

Ups and Downs

My grandmother progressed well after her second surgery, but the doctors wanted her to go to rehab to make her move around enough to prevent scar tissue from forming in her back, which was part of why she had to have a second surgery in the first place. Though we all knew it was the best thing for her, she didn't take it with a sound mind; although she doesn't have any sort of dementia, the pain medicine regimen the hospital put her on threw her brain for a loop.   Essentially, while given these

Admin For A Day

Had a few entries like this a while back, but like I said, that was a while back, so it's time for a redux!   Basically, if you had sole control over BZPower, who would you appoint to different Staff positions? Why is optional.   1) A Forum Admin steps down. Which Global Moderator do you promote? 2) Which Forum Leader fills the now-vacant Global Moderator slot? 3) Which Forum Assistant is promoted to Forum Leader? 4) Which member is promoted to Forum Assistant? 5) You need a new reporter.

The Twilight Zone

-----Mercifully, for the first time since Minot, we awoke with cell phone reception. It’s a minor miracle, and it meant that we no longer had to calculate our phone’s morning alarms from central time backwards, which was a great annoyance. Texts from Alaska’s 511 service poured through to my mom's phone, which proved a hassle as updates on the Glenn Highway popped up periodically with no obvious way to unsubscribe. (We eventually were able to do so, though not without significant hassle.)   -

Concert Countdown: Five Days

I've practiced a ton and I'm really well prepared and really excited. July 3rd is less than a week away, almost everyone I know in real life who could realistically make it has been invited, and three string instrument players have been added to the program, meaning a larger audience because there are about a zillion chamber music players this summer.   Would have gotten more practice but I met this girl who is in the film program but is pretty handy with a piano despite a lack of formal lessons

Music Since the Twentieth Century

After my opinions on Mozart and much of the Classical era, I got to thinking about modern classical music, which in this sense means any music written after 1900. I have ... mixed feelings, shall we say.   Time for another music history lesson.   By the turn of the century, late Romanticism was beginning to die out. Gustav Mahler was writing symphonies of epic proportions, Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy were defining a musical style dubbed "Impressionism" - though Debussy hated the term - and

Three Years

I am the first to admit that the time I spent on the old forums was time spent as a noob in nearly every regard, but I joined when I was only ten, so my zealous enthusiasm for BIONICLE, the site, and literally any member I thought was cool has an explanation.   When the forums came back, I felt like I'd grown quite a bit in many ways. I still didn't really know what I was doing or what I'd be doing in the future—aren't we all adrift in that regard?—but I felt more confident about my life.   Life

The Great American Road Trip II - 14 - Running Down an Interstate

At around 9:30 this morning we heard a loud tapping sound outside our fifteenth-floor window. Startled and curious, we opened the curtains to reveal a gigantic seagull which had perched himself on the ledge. We saw a close-up gull yawn as well as a good look at how gulls prune themselves.   It was raining - one of the many themes of our journey - so we left the hotel around 11:00. Our first stop of the day was Vancouver's famous Stanley Park, which would have been a very nice place to spend a da

Achievement Unlocked?

So I've started, according to my estimation, four epics in my time on BZP. The first was this atrocious monstrosity of a story that lasted all of about three chapters and was fortunately deleted. The second was an actual attempt at a legitimate story that I started when I hit 10,000 posts. It was called Annus Mirabilis, and though the concept was (and still is, I think) quite interesting, I didn't have enough of a story planned out to make it work. The third attempt was a gritty Hero Factory reb
