2001: A Hotel Odyssey

We got on the road a little before noon after sleeping in a little bit. Leaving Fredericton was much easier than getting in - just a few merges and we were on the Trans-Canada Highway, first westbound and then northbound to Québec.   We crossed many small brooks and paralleled the St. John River all the way up. We were never more than a few miles from the border with Maine, and made excellent time up the highway.   We pulled into a gas station in Woodstock, which was, to our surprise, full-servi

A Bzp Dream

I dreamed that I was on a college campus walking around a bunch of playgrounds () until EW (whom I have never met and probably never will) showed up and told me Omicron was in the area and we were supposed to find him. We finally did, but right what I was going to say "It sucks, doesn't it?", I got real dizzy and woke up.   -=< >=-

The Fifty-ninth Contest Of Creations That Are Based In The Medium Of Bionicle

I'm not trying to complain. I'm really, really not. But the current themes have just been so dang esoteric: the 1980s and rock music are two contests I just don't see getting many entries, and the former didn't. I don't think the latter will either, with the added restriction of shipping your MOCs out to a place where odds are you're probably nowhere near.   But hey, I could be wrong, and I hope I am.

The Great American Road Trip II - 23 - Passing Out

My dad had gotten up around 6:00 in the morning and went to get our brakes checked out at the Durango dealership. It's fortunate that he did so, as he reported the engine light blaring at him every mile or so - a repeat of the oil-light false alarm we got outside of Kamloops, British Columbia. After a series of scares he got to the dealership, where they checked the engine (which has been knocking a little bit), the brakes, and the oil. They did an oil change and reported that everything was fin

Bionicle - An Outsider's Perspective - Part Iv

Today's installment of "an outsider's perspective" is longer, because it's the finale of the series.   Glatorian   When LEGO started BIONICLE PART II, they designed a whole bunch of new characters who wore helmets rather than masks, and were supposed to be cooler than Jackie Chan and Chuck Norris combined. Needless to say, that worked awesomely well. (Not.) The members are: Gresh, the new star of Bionicle. Now the green guy is the coolest. LEGO, make up your mind. Malum, the red guy. He go

Admin For A Day - 2

The exciting sequel to "Admin for a Day" is here! Here are four more hypothetical situations for you to answer to, situations you'd have to deal with if you were an admin:   1. Due to an unexpected change in real life, Ta-metru_defender is unable to continue his job as forum mentor. Who replaces him?   2. After years on the job, Blog Leader Makaru retires. Out of all the current Bloggies, who replaces him?   3. Now, someone needs to replace that bloggie. Who do you hire?   4. Finally, you ne

Baseblog - May 11, 2010

Hello one and all: the BaseBlog returns once more!   Dallas Braden's perfecto: I'm happy for Braden and all, but as a Rays fan I am seriously worried. They've had a perfect game thrown against them two straight years, and they've lost three straight games. Still, I smiled when his grandmother told A-Rod to "stick it". Griffey sleeping: This is probably the strangest story of the year. If you haven't heard, Ken Griffey Jr. of the Mariners went into the clubhouse for a jacket midgame, and didn't

Pool Opening

Our pool opens in one day!   It's in-ground and came with the house. It's nice because it has these little jets that pop up in different places along the bottom to move dirt to places easier to clean. It's shaped like a peanut that goes from 3 feet to around 6 feet deep. It's also got a spa separated from the pool by a small wall but still in-ground. It can heat up to about 105 degrees Fahrenheit, and some of the water spills out over a waterfall to the main pool. Over on the other side, there

Normally Corny

-----A requisite 7:00 wakeup meant we got out of the door at 9:00. We exited Kentucky and entered Indiana for approximately a mile before going back into Ohio, then finally going into Indiana for good. -----While on the way, we contacted the office of the Indianapolis Indians and inquired about the possibility of purchasing a pennant. Although they sell them, they were currently out of stock, which was alright by our itinerary. The traffic around Indianapolis was bad enough; downtown was no
