My grandmother has been recovering slowly but steadily since her mid-October surgery. There have been a number of setbacks, including bronchitis, but none more disheartening than the thought of getting another surgery and going through the process again. Unfortunately, the spacers they inserted into her back have moved and have temporarily paralyzed one of her feet. A second surgery is now a must if she wants to walk normally again, and it has to be done immediately before the bone heals aroun
My grandmother went through Major Back Surgery #2 this past Thursday in order to repair the things that were going awry with the healing from Major Back Surgery #1. Because of the length of surgery, the amount of scar tissue from the first one, and the overall risk of complication, we thought that the ordeal would make her even weaker. Two days later, she's walking around at twice what the doctors thought she'd be able to handle and hasn't needed nearly the same amount of painkillers she neede
-----We've put around three thousand miles on the vehicle since its last oil change/tire rotation in Anchorage, and the intervening three thousand include the Tok Cut-Off, the Top of the World Highway, and the vicious hills and traffic in the state of Washington. We wouldn't be able to get back home without a last stop at a dealership, and luckily, one was about a mile from where we stayed in Bozeman. My dad returned about forty-five minutes after leaving and reported that somehow, the brakes
guys guys, this is serious we don't have much time left guys guys really the end is upon us and do you know why? my dad just referenced gangnam style we're doomed
I've always been a fan of the Voting Booth, especially on the old forums. When I got my Premiership, I was still a wee noob, and created tons of polls ... well, I tried to, at least. My habit of hitting preview-post canceled out the polls I made, which led to frustration on my end and by whatever FA had to come clean my mess up. When the forums came back, I was happy to see the Voting Booth busy again, but this spurt of activity didn't continue for very long at all. Soon the Voting Booth looke
I'm sorry, I just had to put this here.
I'm sick of members using the ` character as an apostrophe instead of the proper '. It adds unneeded space to their posts and looks plain noobish.
` is at the top left of the keyboard, while ' is next to ;.
IT'S NOT THAT HARD TO SUBSTITUTE PEOPLE!

As one of the final steps in my quest for reorganization and restructuring of this blog, I have reformed the old "Bring Back Teal Club" into a new club: The Unused Colors Society. The mission of the UCS is to promote the use of underutilized and/or discontinued LEGO colors, such as teal, old purple, or metallic blue. All of the 130 members of the old BBTC are automatically members of the UCS - and anyone who wishes to join can do so in this entry!
-----Mercifully, for the first time since Minot, we awoke with cell phone reception. It’s a minor miracle, and it meant that we no longer had to calculate our phone’s morning alarms from central time backwards, which was a great annoyance. Texts from Alaska’s 511 service poured through to my mom's phone, which proved a hassle as updates on the Glenn Highway popped up periodically with no obvious way to unsubscribe. (We eventually were able to do so, though not without significant hassle.) -
Recently, there have been many blog entries and much speculation on the end of Bionicle in 2010. There have been many "sources" cited: namely, European fansites.
I, for one, don't trust it. Here's why:
It's easy to misconstrue anything foreign. People who don't know English well, plus horrific translation software, is not much "proof" in my book. In many cases, no quotes are provided. Bionicle's sales are at an all-time high. Why would they cancel a line that lines their pockets with millio
(TMD's ongoing series of epic blog entries are known as "Essays, Not Rants!" This might better be known as the first in a series of rambling, barely sensible blog entries known as "Rants, Not Essays!") The long-awaited Season Three of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is out, as of last week's two-part premiere and this week's Pinkie Pie-centric episode. To preface what I'm about to write, I pretty much dropped out of "brony-dom" during the latter half of Season Two. To be fair, I never wa
Toxic Waste Bunny was a regular bunny who found his way into a landfill. After being dunked in toxic waste, he came out taller, multicolored, with three ears, two and a half arms, and another eyeball. Today, Toxic Waste Bunny is a celebrity and heads a large company known as Toxic Waste Industries. They invent new uses for Toxic Waste and possum fur.
Toxic Waste Bunny is also well-known on television. His first show was known as Off-Ramp, hosted by TWB underneath a highway exit. After three s
Every now and again, I post collections of quotes or various snippets of wisdom from my dad, such as "we've invested in a raisin farm," or "furthermore, I own a stapler." As I was going through the nearly five thousand pictures taken on last summer's road trip, I found a number of them that featured my dad doing something insane. (This is also known as his natural habitat.) Your mission is to suitably caption these images. This image was taken on June 2nd in Portland, Oregon as we headed out
My blog is becoming less active again ... I blame it on the end of the semester. This picture was taken on June 11th, 2012 in Louisville, Kentucky, at the Louisville Slugger museum. The lifelike statue of Ken Griffey Jr., it seems, was too much for my dad to resist pinching. And before you ask, yes, this is probably the weirdest thing he's ever done. "Talk about being a pinch hitter."
