A Day of Cascade

So I registered for Bricks Cascade. Only instead of going for the full convention, I'm only going to make it on Saturday. All day Saturday, so any cool stuff going on I can be a part of... but nothing Friday or Sunday.   See, even though I've lived near Portland for years, I'm currently working in Dallas. So my plans are to fly to Portland Friday night, hang out on Saturday, and head back Sunday morning and be ready for work the following Monday.   I'm lucky in one aspect that I can fly non-r

Reviewing The Bionicle Legend Books

I’m feeling rather bored right now. Since I just figured out a few new ways to mess with my Blog settings, I decided to write a few more reviews. Since I don’t have any Inika yet, I’ll go over my feelings on the books, Bionicle Legends by Greg F. I’ll try to keep it Spoiler Free, but I’m sure there’ll be a few that make it through. So be warned. And read at your own risk. It’s pretty long.   Spoiler Warning!                   Island of Doom. The first book, bringing back the Toa Nuva

A Good Ol' Meeting...

Just got back from one of my scout meetings. It's my second to last (or third, I'm not quite sure) meeting as the Senor Patrol Leader, and I am soooo glad to be stepping down. Being SPL is A LOT of work (planning for meetings, keeping people organized, ext). I've learned that I prefer to lead by example, which does not always work when I'm trying to get a whole room of roudy scouts to SHUT UP!! But the meeting went fairly well tonight. They paid attention, got stuff done, and prepared to e

Horizon Express

I am not a train person. I cannot afford the set. I don't have the money for it, I don't have the room for it, and I don't even have any train tracks for it to run on. Me and Lego trains are not meant to be.   Mostly I just wanted to see how they managed to build those SNOT arrows on the side!!   Finally found a review where they took pictures of the building process, and I can safely say that "my mind = blown" when it comes to that technique. So awesome. Now I have to steal it.   Oh yeah

Mata Nui Island Project: Day 4

Swert and I continue to work on our Mata Nui Island model, built at City Blocks Lego Art Studio in Tacoma. (And I'm getting tired of commuting so far. Luckily I have a wonderful aunt and uncle [who now have a link to this very blog] who have let me stay at their place for the week, so at least I'm not in a hotel / tent / under a freeway overpass / commuting 3 hours from home daily.)   Day 4         So I got the two things I wanted done: I made the Kini Nui area and Ta-Koro. The Kini Nui ar

Cool Co-Workers

I've been at my current job for over 6 months now, which is the longest I've held a paying position. I have some pretty great co-workers too, so I really lucked out. (Even if I'm still not quite sure on the best way to describe my job outside of "computery-stuff.")   But one of my co-workers is a toy collector too. He isn't exclusively into LEGO, but he collects them too. And he's into it enough that when I mentioned BZPower's new member raffle to him, he signed up right away!   Now the ques

A Discussion About Lego Friends

For a while I’ve been wanting to make an entry refuting both sides of the LEGO Friends issue, since arguments on both ends could use some tweaking IMO. (And as I wrote this, I realized that I tended to refute one side more than the other… oh well.) Ideally, this entry will open eyes on both sides of the issue and find ways to make compromises. In actuality, I’ll probably end up insulting one or both sides. But I’m trying to present this in a non-aggressive manner, which I think is lacking in

The Real Death of Vitruvius

Whoopsi.   Read set review here. Spoiler: you should buy this set. Also, Vitruvius dies, in case you didn't catch onto that already.

Miru And Kakama Rahi

So summer break has officially begun for me, and since my job from last year fell through, I'm unemployed. But that has given me time to finish taking pictures of my Thirty-Six Masks Project Rahi and uploading them.   So right now I have two BBC topics: One for the Mriu Rahi and one for the Kakama Rahi. I still have three mask sets left to post, but I have a month left before Bricks Cascade, so I'll hold off posting them all right now.   Miru Rahi Topic Kakama Rahi Topic   Also, bonus material

A Monster on Titan

LOOK I POSTED A TOPIC IN GENERAL ART!!   It's the Toa Mata driving a Monster Truck on the Moon Titan.   Because this totally fits with the current theme.   Some of you might counter this, cause there isnt any apparent conflict between the Monster (truck) or Titan (the moon) BUT THERE IS. And I will break down the categories.   ATMOSPHERE: Titans atmosphere is primarily made up of methane and ethane gases, which are totally not breathable to humans. Since the Monster truck has an opened cab, the

Collectible Minifigure Audit

Lately, I've been reading posts from people who were putting together displays for their collectible minfigures. Some people have gone all out, with fully enclosed framed collections, whereas others build colored stands and such. Me, I had them all tossed in a bucket, but it got me thinking about a display. I got my Ninjago characters up on display (kinda annoyed that the next batch don't look that great but I really want to continue collecting full sets of the main cast) but I really do have wa

Exo Suit Review

I wanted to review the Exo Suit from Lego Ideas for a while, especially after the hassle it took for me to get it. But alas, Black Six beat me to the punch and posted his review. (And to be fair, I didn't really vocalize my desire to review this, cause I've been busy with other stuff.) So instead this will get the less-than-stellar treatment of a blog review! Yay!   To start off, I should probably give my history on this model, or rather lack thereof. I was not familiar with Peter's Exo Suit bef

Flying To Cascade

Maybe. I leave tomorrow night right after work. I have three flights to get from DAL to PDX, and since I'm flying non rev, there's a chance that I could get pulled from any one of them. BUT I'M GOING TO TRY AND MAKE IT AND BRING MY MINIFIG TOA WITH ME. Hope to see a bunch of cool cats when I get in. (See, we got new kitties just before I left... oh, and I guess I'll meet some BZPers there too.)   I'll update entry if/when I get stuck in Albuquerque or Oakland or the Mohave Desert or Moria..

Thoughts on Future Lego in 2014

So I just posted about my buying habits on this year’s sets, and now I’ll look to the sets coming out for 2014. At least in the winter, anyway. I’ll focus on the ones that are public on BrickSet, just so that way I don’t accidentally discuss any unreleased sets. (But I’m pretty sure most of them have been revealed by now.)   Again, I’ll start off with the theme I’m most excited for: Ninjago. It’s rebooted with robots and new vehicles and everything. And a fair amount of purple elements, alt

Brickshelf Mods Will Hate Me

Because I just loaded a ton of Rahi images. Considering BrickShelf's owners aren't big fans of Bionicle (although I know they must go through a fair share of Bionicle MOCs both good and bad) and the fact that I uploaded 26 folders with an average of five images in each... yeah, they're gonna have fun looking over all that. But I'm going to wait until they approve everything before posting extensive topics here, mostly because I don't want to write out links to EVERY image, and instead will jus

Florida Bound

Yay a summer vacation! And people at work are only mildly annoyed that I'm taking time off!   So this weekend I'm going to be flying to Florida to meet up with some of my friends from my Southwest Internship. It's going to be a long flight; basically if you at a map of the continental US, I'm in the upper left hand corner and I'm headed to the lower right hand corner.   When I had the chance to get free flights, I visited a lot of the country, but never made it to Florida. Based on what I know o

It's a Mystery

It's always great to read a mystery. You know that portions aren't going to get solved until the end, and I know I always have to keep reading on to see just what happens.   It's a little harder to write a mystery. When I do, I usually know the big reveal early on, and try to subtly hint towards it without giving it away.   But writing a mystery while also not knowing what it is... that's tough.   The LSO Round Robin Epics are fun, but both my Bionicle and COT stories have some pretty decent m

Computer Troubles With Bzp

I don't think this merits a whole topic, so I'll put it here.   Anyway, recently, whenever I've gotten on BZP, I try to click a link and I get this error message which shuts down my MSN Windows. This has never happened to me before, and now it happens constantly. And, much to my dismay, its happening on BZPower, and nowhere else. (Yet). So my question is has anybody else had this problem? It's knocked me off MSN and Internet Explorer, and my Virus Protection stuff seems to be working just

Dragons II

Oh wow.   It was good. Very good. Lots of dragons, lots of good flight (and fight) scenes. Dang, it even got emotional, far more than the original. I mean, it didn't have the same awe inspiring scene like the first flight in the original... but that's a special scene, and they didn't try to replicate the first, but rather make an awesome second. I'm probably going to see it again. Yes indeed.   Not without issues. The music was great, but maybe it's because it's too much of the first? Which isn'

Watching Anime

Wow, I haven't blogged in a week. It's not that I've been busy; kinda the opposite really, haven't had much to do. Besides being jealous of everybody who went to BrickFair, but that's really not something fun to blog about.   But yeah, I guess I have been spending a lot of time sampling random Animes on the web. It started when I looked up some of the Marvel Animes, because I've been trying to watch Marvel stuff and decided to see what Japan did with them. The Iron Man and X Men versions w

Epic Contest!

Yay! I've been waiting for this for over a year! (Which is apparently the amount of time it took for HH to recover from the EpicFest contest!). There is another epics contest, here, and I will be entering even if all of the Magania is set out to stop me! Unfortunately, I cannot simply enter Kulagi's Kanoka, because of the new requirement. I had to add a character in, and there's no room for anybody else in Kulagi's Kanoka or its sequel...   However... I have other stories.   None of my co

Time Disruption Reevaluated

So I was bored this weekend, so I browsed through my files and pulled up my old Time Disruption story. Basically it's something I started back in 2003 (or early 2004, sometime around there) and worked on for 3+ years. It was probably one of my more successful stories on BZPower, and it certainly drew the largest number of reviews I've ever gotten for a story. I haven't reread it in years, so I thought it would be fun to do.   Of course, there were parts I still loved about this. The genera

Blue Blues

Is it just me, or are the blue characters this year lacking in something?   Well, maybe it is just me, but the single characters I dislike the most (set wise) out of the Piraka and Inika are Vezok and Hahli. They are both the blue sets, and I have never been disagreeable to blue sets in the past? Why now?   For Hahli, it's quite simple. The mask su... isn't that good. It looks estraterestrial, with a mustache and all. I mean, it wouldn't be that bad if it was on Nuparu or Kongu, but on
