You see, it's not Teal or Dark Turquoise, or even Bright Bluish Green. IT'S CALLED TARAKAVA GREEN. Any argument to the contrary is wrong. (I will also accept Kongu Blue.)
I just came across a new method for connection Bionicle 2015 masks to 2x2 round bricks. The new style of Bionicle masks that came out this year had an odd connection that allowed for them to be flipped off the head as part of an action feature, but this made their connection point rather loose. The heads were less than ideal to squeeze them on, and while you could fit them on technic axle or rod holes, they were often weak or loose. This new method uses a 2x2 round bricls, which slides in
Animorphs-vs-Red-Skull-1 This is for a collaboration at BricksCascade. Basically, I had Animorph figs and I wanted to show them off, so I forced them into this set. I've had a couple ideas of how to incorporate the figs into some battle scene, and it's tricky. The characters are rarely in battle as humans, because they usually morph into animals. But even if I made minifig-scale brick build animals (or somehow used animal molds) I wouldn't have a need for the actual figs. So how wou
So here are some MOCs I'm working on. These are WIPs at the moment, for the most part. Theoretically, they might go in a display at a movie theater that Port Lug might put up, but I don't know if they'll make it to that, so instead maybe I'll aim for Bricks Cascade. The Wyldstyle mech is supposed to be based on her outfit color, but instead of dark purple and dark azure, I went old school Nui Jaga and utilized purple and medium blue, mixed in over a solid black design. A majority of it is t
Really? America... just really. Really?? On the other hand, the local initiative to ban the sale of items made from rare animals passed. I mean, I'm kind of disappointed that it wasn't already a thing, but it's official now. Stop killing Rhinos, kay.
The Cyber Criminal "Terabyte" terrorizing the public. Little Bobby has finally snapped. What would Mrs. Roberts think? Used up most of my masonry brick here. Of course, the build is more to make the joke and not the design of the building, which I'm going to say is at least acceptable. (I actually want to start designing more shallow buildings, with detailed exteriors that I can display figs in front of, but nothing too deep that would take up space when put on a shelf like the modular buildin
Seriously, I've been blogging about this for the past week, you should know about it by now. Anyway, no need to extra jabbering: pictures! So, if you have any questions, or parts of the island you want to see in more detail, let me know! (I may have picts of it already, and if I don't, then I can send Swert to take more detailed images.) Big thanks to Dan Parker for letting us use all his bricks and build this.
A true Ninja knows when to admit defeat, and alas I must too. The Lego Ninjago Movie was kinda meh. There, I said it. I mean, it was a good movie and stuff, but it is definitely the lesser of the three Lego movies. In fact, there were some of the TV show seasons that I think would outshine it in terms of story and characters. (Tournament of Elements and Skybound, to be precise.) I thought there was potential that it didn't quite live up to, so yes I was kind of disappointed. So what foll
Didn't I say that I didn't have enough money to afford the Phantoka until they went on sale?
Just ignore that part and I'll put off eating for a day to compensate.
Now for a picturefied review!
Well, well, well. Here I am with the last Toa Phantoka, and the team leader, Kopaka. Does me meet up to his counterparts from previous years?
Kopaka Mata was super WIN. Not my favorite Mata, but still an excellent and unique design (with the shield and all). Anyway, I spent two months
Okay, so here’s the deal. There was a special trip for UW students to go to a Fred Meyers and buy last minute college supplies. I already had all I really needed, and then some more (I’m sure). But I went anyway… I wanted some dry erase markers, and they’d be cheaper at some big retail store than the local bookstore… I think.
Anyway, Fred Meyers is also the place where I find my best Lego deals, and I’ve only grabbed Hewkii this summer. So, you know, if I happened to find a good sale…
Hah, talk about a Cuusoo idea guaranteed to fail. (Like, seriously, how would you even start. Buildable animals and figs and aliens and spaceships would be cool, but there's no good way to incorporate morphing into a toy. They did transformers Animorph toys back in the 90s, and while they worked, they looked pretty bad.) But I digress. I'm talking more about Animorph characters digitized in Lego form. I've had the figs designed in LDD for a while, but I decided to try and pursue some dra
Let's play 20 Questions! I think you should know the basic rules; I'm thinking of something Bionicle related, and you ask questions to help narrow it down! Here are some of the more detailed rules: 1: The questions can only be yes or no questions. So "Is this your first blog post since July?" works but "Why haven't you been more active?" doesn't. (The answers are "Yes" and "Work.") 2: There can only be ONE question per post, and no double posting. 3: I will edit my answer into every body's
So since Lego has started making realistic skin tone heads, we've started wanting more shades. Characters from Indiana Jones and Super Heroes got these cool shades of black or dark flesh, but they were all male. Why couldn't we have a larger palette of female heads? After all, there are so many characters that could be made (Zoe from Firefly, Leena from WH13, Cassie from Animorphs... some examples I've been wanting anyway.) Now there have been some female heads in light flesh, but when would
I want to kill something... specifically these germs and bacteria that are giving me a sore throat STILL and/or ear infection. COME ON IMMUNE SYSTEM IS THAT THE BEST YOU CAN DO FOR ME?? (Okay maybe not the most tasteful blog entry ever but seriously...) Also, I was gonna complain that Rene started texting me at 1 AM but he was ignoring the time difference and I was trying to sleep... but really it's a good assumption that I'd be awake at 1 AM so I can't really find fault with him. Oh well.
Everybody should know Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. But there was also a cartoon show that ran in 2000 that followed his adventures as a Space Ranger. These designs are based on characters from that show. From left to right: Booster, XR, Buzz Lightyear, Mira Nova. I like each one well enough on their own, although I'll admit there are some flaws, and their proportions to each other are a bit off. (Mira is a bit too large, Booster is on the small side.) XR's helmet is also too small, but the n
The Black Panther movie was pretty epic, and there were two Lego sets to go with the film (in addition to a jet released with Civil War). So today I’m taking a quick look at 76100: Royal Talon Fighter Attack ($29.99, 358 pieces) and 76099: Rhino Face-Off by the Mine ($19.99, 229 pieces). There will be some moderate spoilers, but I won’t go too in depth to the movie. Between the two sets, you get seven figs from the movie, hitting most of the main cast. T’Challa appears in both sets in two d
Oh god I'm doing it again... Okay, anybody ever get one of those Bohrok pens from 02? I guess they're like the Toa pens, but they have these smaller Bohrok faceplate elements... and maybe a krana bead? See, these might be useful pieces for building minifig-scale Bohrok. (Yeah, crazy idea, I know.) But there are so few images of them on the web, and I can't see the kind of detail for how they'd work. So if somebody has ever owned one, could they say what kind of unique pieces the pens inc
UPDATE: The only unclaimed piece is #6. I'm 90% confident I can make it if need be, so I'll be working on it this weekend. Next week, I'll try contacting all the participants to confirm if their pieces will be ready in time. (Unfortunately, I've been doing the corners, so if we're missing others, I can't just make a smaller block out of what I have.) ~~ ~~ ~~ Sections: [01][02][03] [04][05][06] [07][08][09] Piece 1: Xccj Piece 2: Xccj Piece 3: Black Six Piece 4: danny316p Piece 5: Va
It depends on which angle you view it from. So yeah, BrickCon is awesome. Took lots of picks, lots of good times had by all. But for now, just wanted to post the cheese slope mosaic, which finally got made. It didn't win any trophy, but the ones that did deserved them. We'll have to make a larger one next year. More BrickCon news when I'm not having to hack in thru velox's laptop.
So, like, for real this time. Hey folks, I think it's time we start planning for a BZPower Bionicle 2016 Mosaic that can grace the various conventions. To start out with, let's finalize an idea. I'm thinking that the best idea is to utilize images from the comics that come with the 2016 sets. The best images to use, IMO, would be the Uniter images of the Toa and Creature combinations. Each comic has a straight-on image of the Uniter character, which would be easy to mosaic-fy. Still, we woul
So I've been going through some of my older stories on my laptop, including a couple of Bionicle ones, notably Kulagi's Kanoka and Mystery on Keli Nui. The first one was about an Onu-Matoran Kanoka maker in Metru Nui flying around evading Vahki and Gang Matoran and stuff. I'd reckon that it was one of my most popular stories ever on BZP, and going back I really liked the overall flow of the plot, although there were some things I would change now. The mystery one was for the epics mystery c
And stayed up too late watching it cause I had to be in to work today, gut jeeze traffic was mucked up and made my evening commute 2.5 hours so I had to stay up late to watch it anyway. Anyways, my thoughts below, and some spoilers, I guess? Reader beware. ... So I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I like the socially awkward princess; Disney needs more of them. I mean, I'm all for confident female leads and stuff, but there was a more realistic feel of Anne compared to others. (Or maybe I jus
So I guess I've been fairly inactive. I can blame a bunch of it on work, but also that some of my free time has been going elsewhere, specifically into this game called Ingress. My roommate is a fan of the game. (Like, y'know how I'm obsessed with Lego. He's at that kind of obsession level with this game.) It's a game on your phone where you go around and "hack" these "portals" that are tied to specific locations, usually pieces of art or something. It's an excuse to travel around and go on lo
SHIP it up, you know you should. So SHIP it! This is my third year "competing" in SHIPtember, where you build a SHIP (Seriously Huge Investment in Parts Spaceship) which has to be over 100 studs long. So I made not one, not two, but THREE of them. (Sure, they barely reach the limit, are generally narrow, and won't win any competition... but hey they're complete, as far as I'm concerned, so that's a plus.) The Jade Spear: Basically an attempt to build a ship around the Ninjago spinner. It'
