Wolverine

I saw the movie this weekend, and I really enjoyed it.   To start this out, let me say that I’m a big X-Men fan. Well, as far as the television series are concerned, since I’m not quite as into comic books. But the previous movies have been… okay at best. Not super impressed with them compared to the Avengers and such.   But honestly, I don’t like Wolverine. In general, his character is just too gruff or whatever; he’s always angry and violent and doesn’t seem like the most likeable protagon

Brick Badge Sayings

Gosh, convention season is just around the corner! And by that I mean still 4 months away. Bricks Cascade just opened registration for the Portland area convention, but also brings up some news concerning brick badges.   I don't know about BrickFair and all those other places, but this year Seattle's BrickCon officially went to paper badges. They have some legitimate reasons for doing so, so I can't really blame em for doing so. And, on the plus side, they still provided us with custom engra

Collecting Slizer Disks

The ORIGINAL Collectibles. For constraction figures, anyway. Cause they were kindof the first ones... never mind.   Anyway, a few key Bricklink purchases (including one from Germany) and my collection is filling up. Of course, I already had the top two rows, cause those are the ones that came with the sets... although I did buy a few extras because I had either lost the originals or deformed them. (There was a brief period of playing with my Throwbots next to a hot light... and that was when I l

Bricks Cascade Bionicle Colab Mosaic?

The convention is only a couple of months away, so this may be a little too late for some of y'all who apparently need 6 months to build stuff, but I'm going to suggest it anyway. (I think we have a similar turnaround once for BrickCon, so it's not impossible.)   We've done Bionicle mosaics before at conventions. CF and Nukaya have made Kopaka, Onua, and the full team of Toa Mata at BrickFair, and we've done the Kaukau Waterfall and Lewa-in-Protodermis at BrickCon. But so far none at Cascade, de

I Have Two Places!

Okay, I'm renting, but I currently can claim residence in two different locations! That means I'm wealthy, right? Only rich people can own two places at once!   ... for the next 11 days, anyway.   I'm in the process of moving again, but this time my rents are overlapping by a few days. On one hand, that just means more money leaking away, but this will mean I can gradually move, instead of doing it all in one mad rush. So multiple mad rushes. Yay.   But then I enter the period of being new to a

Ninjago Movie Theory

Based on the promotional material, we've seen a lot of human Jackie Chan making ninja jokes.   So my theory is that the LEGO Ninjago Movie is merely Jackie Chan playing with his Lego collection and making up a story for it.

Chief Engineer Olson Reporting In

Hey, check out my fancy red shirt!     (Also, now I realize how hard it is to keep within the avatar / banner size limit when you're dealing with animations. That, and I figured out how to make gifs in Photoshop!)

I Saw Ultron

He was actually a far more interesting character than I thought the trailers made him out to be.   The movie was good overall. A lot of cameo or guest appearances. Except for one that I was hoping for...         But, of course, the most critical part of the movie must come under some scrutiny, and that is... how well do the Lego sets fit in with it? Spoilers beware:         Anyway, good movie, glad I saw it. Based on first impressions, not necessarily my favorite Marvel movie (that might go to W

Facts About Penguins

I don't know if everybody watched my review on the Friends polybag set Penguin's Playground... because they should. But instead of potentially having to deal with music that Youtube claims has some sort of copyright to it (did you know that some random band apparently owns some of the mnolg music, because when I put that in red flags went up) I decided to cover the build section with some interesting facts about penguins. Because everybody needs to know more about penguins.   Unfortunately, I

Lego Store August 2015 Visit

Summer sets are out, so it was time for a visit to the local Lego Store to check out their new sets.   Bionicle was there in force. The shelves weren't completely empty, but they were getting picked through. I talked with one of the employees, and he said that while Bionicle isn't the best seller, it's still moving. It'll be interesting to see how Bionicle G2 did compared to Hero factory, but suffice to say that it's moderately popular.   They had Scooby Doo sets, but only some of the cheaper on

Rejected (Maybe) Distillery and Pub

Cause my team would rather have blood sacrifices than parties with lightshows. I think. I dunno, it's not like we communicate or anything.   That one image totally isn't someone drinking; it's somebody tazing themselves in the mouth. Who it is is still up in the air.

Where We're Going, We Don't Need Roads... Just FAA Flight Regulations

So I visited the LEGO Store today and made some purchases, in which I got a Martian Manhunter fig. The fig itself isn't that interesting to me (I'm not that big a fan of MM) but I figure there'll be others out there clamoring for him, so I could trade him for another rare figure that I would want.   But the highlight of my purchase was the 21103 Cuusoo Back to the Future Delorean. I finally committed on my purchase after I voted for that model... what, two-three years ago? I've been keeping a

Lucky Number 13

Almost missed my BZP-versary. I've been here for 13.   YOU JUST CAN'T GET RID OF ME.   I WILL KEEP POSTING AND POSTING.   LIKE THE ENERGIZER BUNNY, EXCEPT WITHOUT THE QUALITY PART.   I now have a spinning, decapitated Breez head under my avatar. Yay.

Ordering a Rare Color

Isn't it great to spend a hefty amount (in two different orders) on Bricklink to get some useful pieces in a rare color... only to finally receive the packages and realize that it's actually a different color.   See, I saw that they had 2x2 dishes, ribbed tubing, and some clickits elements in trans medium blue, the kind that glows under a black light. The tubing and dishes turned out to be in light blue. (Well, the dishes, anyway. The tubing appears to be some unique color between trans medium a

20 Questions 3

Let's Play 20 Questions. I will think up something pertaining to Bionicle, and you must ask me questions to see who it is.   Rules   1: The questions can only be yes or no questions. So "Is he pink" works but "what color is he" doesn't.   2: There can only be one question per post, and no double posting.   3: I will edit my answer into every body's post. You can only add a second question in your post if I have already edited in my response.   I am thinking of a Bionicle think (AKA, it is

What Modular Building Should I Get?

The new Detective's Office model that's been seen around lately looks rather nice, and now I'm tempted to maybe get one. And if I do, perhaps I should also look like some of the older ones, so I can get a few of them before they disappear from production. This idea is terrible financially, since these things aren't exactly cheap. But it seems like a good idea when I'm putting up displays around my apartment and going "Gee, I don't have that many structures to put my minifigs next to." And of

Review 10261: Roller Coaster - Night 02

And the building continues...     So tonight I finished bags 3 - 5. Well, mostly; I left out the sign bit to do later, and I jumped to the end to build one of the cars (literally the last bits you build for this set.) But in general, the right half of the Roller Coaster is finished.   The build was tedious, to say the least. If I wasn't building more columns (which had enough slight variations that I had to pay attention to each one) then I was building one of the supports. The whole thing is m

Korra Season Three Finale

Spoiler: It was good. I was kinda annoyed cause I saw other blog entries pop up while I was at work and I couldn't watch this until the afternoon... but I guess that's what you get for being a responsible adult, can't watch cartoons whenever.

L S O Epics

Why do they not have review topics yet? I don't wanna plan with my teammates, but I wanna at least point out the cool things they came up with in their latest chapters.   Also, to critique the other entries, and criticize them and lower their moral comment on their stories too!   Also, I expected all the teams to be pushing up the maximum of four chapters per day.   Still, it's fun stuff, and I like how the stories I'm in keep twisting and turning.

Made Bank at Cascade

I actually did very well at Cascade this year, probably even better than my first year there where I won a bunch of stuff. This time I've won larger stuff!! And now I'm going to brag and provide a list.   Won the large Friends shopping mall as a giveaway. Got two free mixels in as Mixels Match game (take two Mixels and build a non-Mixel thing... but use all the pieces.) Got the technic snowmobile in a Technic Game (where you build a non-technic thing, or at least not one that's on the box. I was

New In The Talkback Topic

So my last review didn't go over very well because of the database issue on the front page. Bummer.   But with a little bit of code tweaking, I switched it from HTML to BB and now it's good to get posted in the forums!   As such, you can view the full review in the Talkback Topic. And seriously, I described what I liked and didn't like about it there... if there's gonna be argument over how good it is, I should at least be able to get my say in.   (Granted, it's the only Serpentine vehicle t

Lego Movie Round II

I saw it in 2D this time, and honestly, I think it might have been better. Some of Wyldstyle's scenes where she's jumping around seemed too fast and jarring when I saw it in 3D, and they seemed more natural or something this time around. I swear, 3D just never works for me; maybe my brain just can't process that extra dimension.   I took the time to enjoy some more details, and spotted some more figs and models. I saw Johnny Thunder a second time too!         Also, I bought the soundtrack and

SDCC Exclusives

The funny thing is I didn't go to the event at all! In fact, the entire time I was in my office at work because, y'know, weekend shift and all.     So these are the two SDCC Exclusives I was able to get ahold of. Sam Wilson Captain America was actually a win from Lego's Twitter raffle, which was very cool! (Like yeah, I tried reporting more on that for a reason.) I wasn't the only winner... I think they gave out 10 each of the figs and the masks over Twitter, but still a little mind boggling th
