MOCs Sent to BrickFair

I'm really sad that I can't attend BrickFair this year, especially after chatting with Sisen a while ago about Laser Tag plans. The smaller-ish west coast events are fun and all with a closer-knit group of people, but gosh it would be fun to storm the whole laser tag area with BZPers and Lego fans. I'm jealous of everybody who can go, but I also know they'll have a great time.   And although I have no doubt that the Bionicle display will be awesome, I sent in a few of my MOCs too. Gosh, it's

Korra Game

So the first thing I do when I get Internet? It's not work on the projects I said I would. It was download the new Legend of Korra game off Steam and play it. (I only recently downloaded Steam when it wouldn't let me download Lego Marvel without it. I got a couple of games at the beginning of the summer but I've been so swamps with stuff in the last few... months, that I've hardly done any actual "gaming".)   Anyway, the Korra game is fun. Decent animation and voice acting, which is cool since t

Writing Fight Scenes

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I have this ongoing project of rewriting a bunch of my stories that I lost when my laptop was stolen years ago. It’s crazy, since it’s been 7-8 years since that incident, and I still have a backlog of stories I want to redo. But I’m also revisiting them, updating them, improving them, ext, so it’s a lengthy process. Add to the fact that I don’t exactly have a ton of free time anymore to write, but I get inspired in short spurts, and make a little progress h

Baaack

Yay, Internet at new place after going without for a month. I AM CONNECTED!   I mean, I was always lurking either on my work computer or my phone...   But yeah, I have all sorts of things to update. Finished NaNo this year despite a late start. Went to BrickUniverse Dallas and took pictures. Got super stressed at work and it's only getting worse... yeah.   But what about all the projects that were left in limbo that you were supposed to be working on?   Forget about that now, I have a bunch of s

Potential Natural Disasters

In the latest xkcd comic, he said he would want to live on the example map in geography books where all the geographical features are labeled. However, I believe there are a lot of risks he's overlooking, and I shall list them here.   Flooding: He is located in the drainage area of a fairly large mountain range, and the primary drainage seems to be just north of his location, so he would likely be prone to seasonal flooding, particularly since he's on a fairly flat section.   Cold Climate: Consi

How the Force Awoke

In the time before time, the Force united all peoples in the universe, and all was well. But the Force's brothers, the Sith, grew jealous of the people's devotion to it, so they cast a spell that made the Force sleep. And then the Sith were free to spread their darkness.   The people of the universe suffered greatly at the hands of the Sith, until one day when six a hero known as a Jedi appeared. He challenged the Sith's darkness, and began a quest to reawaken the Force.   After many years (thre

Reidak Is A Happy Meal Piraka

I dropped by a local McDonalds today and bought meself a Lego Toy. That, and a large thing of fries. (Sure, all their food is pretty bad for you, but I couldn’t resist.) Anyway, I asked to buy one of the toys (preferably Nuparu) but all they had was Reidak and Hahli. So, knowing how I don’t like Hahli, I went for Reidak. It’s an interesting toy, and I thought I would make a quick review.     The Looks: In general, he looks pretty much like our favorite black Piraka. Everything is sort o

Lego Slingshot

I finally managed to track down some Collectible Minifigures: Simpsons Series Two, and got the only one that I really wanted: Bartman. Even then I don't care much for the fig itself, since I have a generally negative view of the Simpson figs. However, he does come with a slingshot accessory, which is the first time Lego had produced one. (Although they've been printed on torsos before, my self fig torso has one printed on it.) (I'm also annoyed that, while the Lego Hobbit game gave Ori the Dwarf

No Editable Form Fields On Page

Meh.   So I'm going to admit that I'm not the greatest speller. I don't rely exclusively on spell check, but I always run it just as a quick double check on my posts. Unlike some people, I never post to MS Word, spell check, and then paste back to BZP; too time consuming, not to mention the issues Word has with pasting text, ext. Way back in the day, BZP used to have a spell check thingy, which was kinda clunky from what I remember. It's long gone, and today's current settings apparently doe

What I Got

Mostly cheap dishes. See, I went and got some moderate quality stuff a couple of years ago when I was living in the dorms, but I didn't need to use it when I moved home. As such, my sister took all of it, and she isn't giving it back. Which is fine, and I said that I would just go to the store and buy some cheap stuff when I move to Dallas. This way, I can choose my own styles and I won't have to transport it. But nope, instead my sister went and bought a bunch of cheap stuff on her own, cl

Buy from Lego Online Now!

Except in the span of me starting to write that front page article and posting it, shop.lego.com decided to just crash.   It happened in the middle of verifying my order too! So I don't know if I'm getting the Exo-Suit or not.   It seems that the hype for the new sets (likely the rumored-quite-a-bit-to-be-a-limited-release Exo-Suit) may have crashed the site? They posted an unusual error report on the shopping cart page, saying that we can't use express shipping or VIP points and that they'll ad

Best Scene From Korra?

This one:     Okay, maybe not the best, but most sig-worthy. Epic finale and stuff. Glad they let Bolin stop being a stuck up movie(er) star and actually start being cool again!

Last Blog Entry for 2016 (for me anyway)

Well, so I really just kinda stopped blogging this summer. I mean, I've totally been lurking on BZPower this whole time (and played in the occasional mafia game) but I haven't really posted all that much. Primarily I've been crazy busy with work this year (between having my weekend position move from 3 people to 1 person with an increase in actual work, and having almost all our workflows change. Like seriously! ). But I've been busy with other things, like getting up to level 14 in Ingress

Best Lego Sets of 2018

2018 has been an interesting year for me for Lego. I generally bought fewer sets compared to the last four years, but my budget was dominated by a couple of large purchases this summer, thus forcing me to hold out on buying a lot of sets in the second half of the year. I’ve also bought a couple of sets that I have yet to open, which is a strategy I haven’t applied before. (Usually I build any set I get soon after purchase. But this year, I bought a few sets exclusively for the pieces, and I want

Review 70620: Ninjago City - Level 1

This model is so big and packed with detail, that a single blog entry won't suffice. (But not a full on front page review, that would be exhausting to finish.) I haven't even finished building it; partially because I was to spread out the build for as long as possible, partially because it already takes a really long time. (This would make for a great group speed build set, IMO, but I'm not rushing through it myself.) Anyway, I wanted to talk about some of my favorite bits, and because the level

Location Settings

Hey look I'm going back to referencing an arch of stories that I've never posted online and probably never will but I'll talk about them anyway.   So, my story is set in a city. A very specific city. It has a fairly developed down town, with plenty of skyscrapers and major businesses. It also has a well-developed port area, with lots of warehouses and shipping yards on a bay. Plus it hosts a major university, and about an hour’s drive away are fields for farming.   The problem is that I have nev

Skunk vs Fox

I got my Chima Speedorz sets from my black Friday purchase. So I thought about a little comparison review of the two of them. No pictures tho; the sets weren't THAT worth it.   So there's Skinnet the Skunk and Furty the Fox. They each come with a speedorz cart, an obstacle, and some cards.   DESIGN: Furty has some sort of swamp field goal that he's got to jump, while Skinnet needs to hit the target over a wolf head. The swamp bit is very, very basic, but the wolf head is an excellent design and

Pohatu Nuva Minifig

Bionicle Pens strike again! Black Six recently sent me a rare Bionicle Toa Nuva pen he found at BrickFair NJ this year.  (Don't worry, I paid him back for it.)  I've been able to track down the Toa Mata pens and their mini Toa masks, but the Nuva variants have been a bit harder to come by.  Instead of a mask clipping over one of the beads, it has a pin attachment to a head shaped bead.  Sadly the pin itself isn't compatible with Lego elements, so the mask only attached to the head bead

Let the Hunt Begin!

After reading about the contest this morning, I took some time on my lunch break to wander around downtown Portland and look for some interesting faces in thing. And I dusted off my old twitter account... which I haven't used for three years. (I mean, I could use FB but I'm a little unsure of how to get it tagged in, and I'm not on instagram, so Twitter it is!)   I posted a couple of shots, including an interesting angle from a boat, a ladder, some markings on a tree, an interesting bit of broke

Zetsuen no Tempest

Hey another anime entry from a guy who's getting into this but is still a newby to the whole American fanbase culture. Take it as you like, here are my thoughts.   If you don't trust the future Continue with that force What is left to learn now So do it   And when you look there's someone That's running by my side Spirit inspiration No I can't lose   So the latest Anime that I started following is Zetsuen no Tempest. The anime itself is intriguing. I like the basic plo

Bird of a Feather... er, Brick

Lego Store visit paid off. (Just in case this goes the way of other Cuusoo / Ideas sets and disappears quickly.)   Also FYI although there are like 3 polybag deals you can get with Lego right now, my store would only give my one bag even tho I qualified for all of em. But I went online and was able to get all three deals. So that's a better option really... except I didn't want to risk not getting the Birds and I wanted Gali in hand... so yeah. (BTW, I got Gali, and Onua has been ordered. I'll f
