Staff

It sucks.

:P

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the BZP staff. I've been to several forums online, and BZP's staff wins by a landslide. Other forums have genuinely friendly, humorous guys running the site, but they often have no idea what they're doing--reality is not outweighed intention. Others have some hardworking, knowledgeable, and particularly obnoxious, self-absorbed staff, and others still just have a clueless, rude staff. BZP's staff is incredibly professional, goes the extra ten miles--yeah, that's right, they deserve nine more than the actual phrase--to really have this forum ascend to as close to perfection as possible. They're honest, sincere, straightforward, and often funny, friendly guys. And, like a lot of older members who are notably friendly with the staff members, they're hysterical, the coolest members on the internetz.

What annoys me is not at all their work ethic--it's the fact that they're such great guys, and they never actively participate in the forums. I hear B6 is this hilarious, friendly guy, but all I see is him doing this spectacular, totally isolated work. He works with the staff and pulls through a fantastic forum, but I never see humor emerge in some random topic in the forums or blogs or anything of that sort. I don't find it condescending, exactly--I think they talk to you as they would any other--but it seems as if only the staff's close friends really knows them personally, and otherwise they seem like humorless, almost robotic figures.

Again, I am sincerely thankful for a being a member of a forum which such dedicated, tough staff, but aren't they people too? I'm not asking them to go post spam in leet and crack sarcastic jokes all over the forums, but you barely even see the higher-uppers opinions at all, much less their personality. Any thoughts?

...wait, you didn't mean Zar?

I-I mean, yeah, totally. :D

j/k j/k ;D

But I raise my glass to this blog entry. *raises glass*

Makes me appreciate staffers like SPIRIT and Turakii more

I perfectly agree with this blog entry.

The only reason I even know B6 has a personality was because he sent me the wrong IM xD

This is why, should I ever become a staffie in ten years, I'll continue to be active in the forums.

Well, Black Six needs to keep in contact with his staff members more often than with regular ol' members.

He takes the time to do the messy work, and he lets us have the fun on the forums.

If RM did mean me, then I totally agree. I have no idea what I'm doing. :P

Well, you're generalizing. A lot of the newer staff are active in the forums, not to mention people like bonesii, SPIRIT, Turakii, and a bunch of other staff.

And Black Six has a perfect excuse. He's the top dog, and it would stand to reason that he wouldn't really have much time after you take out work, his duties on BZP, and any other IRL thing.

Which is why if the staff lose their minds and somehow decide to elect a noob named Zarayna into their ranks, that noob would definitely keep on being active in the forums. :P

Ad+Zar--Actually, didn't have you in mind specifically (didn't have anyone in mind), but if you say so, I can make a whole 'nother entry. :P

Humva--Yeah, I agree. I'll definitely, given unlimited, spend a lot of it being an active, friendly, humorous member all around the forums, but that raises Cherixon's and Zar's point that you don't have unlimited time. I can definitely accept that B6 can't be all around the forums making friends, like I mentioned, but oftentimes--and this isn't at all intended as offensive or distasteful--he seems almost robotic. On a personal level, he can be pretty intimidating to new members, and that takes a long time to wear off. I'm pretty intimidated by a lot of the staff, though I can appreciate it a lot more now than I used to be, particularly after I've been around gathering all I've said here.

Zar--Well, I bet a lot of newer staff members are assuming that role they'd always wanted as, like we want, an active, friendly, hardworking staffie. Less activity is, of course, totally excusable, for exactly the reasons you're saying, but the content of posts can become something robotic and often intimidating.

This is one reason why blogs are so great. It seems that many on the staff, including B6, keep an updating blog that reveals those personality traits not seen in forum posts.

Personally, I disagree. You are correct, staff members act almost as if they were robots, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I mean, they're just acting professional. Is that so wrong?
