Focus Groups!

Ok, let's have a little bit of fun. After my Media Studies class today, where we looked at focus groups in detail, why not have a little focus group session?

Questions:

1. We've had tropical islands, cities, and underwater; where do you think Bionicle will go next?

2. Mata Nui - how do you picture him? White and gold? Royal red? Majestic blue? Sleek black and silver?

3. Assuming the placeholder for 2008 is true, the story will take place in a City in the Sky. Do you think the characters should have wings for this story? Winged Toa?

4. Toa with new elements - good or bad?

5. Vicious monsters or cruel, calculating villains?

My answers:

1. The Sky

2. Beige/tan, red, and white

3. Yes to wings

4. Good

5. Bit of both

Fun isn't it? What to YOU think?

  1. Underground or in the air.
  2. NOT white and silver. Maybe... purple or somthin'.
  3. Maybe some should have wings, but jet packs would be cool too.
  4. Very good. New colors too.
  5. Monsters for the bulk of things, but definately some CCVs.

1. A city in the sky. Duh.

2. I always pictured him as white and silver.

3. Perhaps with wings, but they would have to be small.

4. I would stick with the "original" elements. (Fire, water, etc.)

5. Intelligent and calculating villains, who should be strong. A mix of both if you put it that way.

1. Though I think Air would be cool, according to the placeholder it's already taken. I really don't have any ideas. Space maybe in a few 100 storyline years.

2. Gold and White with a Hau.

3. Hm, winged Toa would be interesting.

4. Definately new elements, but as Shine said, they shouldn't get too wierd/strong.

5. Yep (a little of both).

1. Hm... A temperate island. Something with desiduous forests, mountains, and frequent rain.

2. Pure white with blue eyes and no mask.

3. Wings would be interesting (they sure look awesome on Hahli)... But it would be interesting if they had different modes of flight. Wings, jetpacks, the Kadin...

4. Depends. Although Toa control elements of nature, some of them are less... visual than others, lacking the natural feel that fire, water, ice, air, earth, and stone have. You won't find a terrestrial environment centered on plasma or gravity, for instance, whereas an ocean immediately evokes the element of water, or a lava flow, fire. Then there's also the matter of seeming ancient, tribal: the six basic elements (and light and shadow) all sound natural, archaic; gravity, magnetism, and plasma have a very "neo" feel to them – historically, they've only been quantified or discovered recently. Sound borders on the edge – it's not something visual, but still something that's always been known. Then vacuum, although we have yet to know of a Toa with it as an element, has the same new, nonvisible feel to it, but it seems rather superfluous anyway, being just the absense of the element of air. Of the Kal elements, lightning is the most archaic – like sonics, it's always been seen, and it also has an unfailing aura of power, as it's not obtainable, manipulable, the way the others are. Something usually reserved in mythology for gods to control (like Zeus and Thor), which is like the image the Toa first had.

Then there's the element of plant life, which I definitely like. It's entirely natural, visual, archaic. My favorite of the new Toa elements. But for the rest, it depends on which image of Bionicle you like better: the old, tribal image, or the new, techno feel. I'll always like the old image better, but the new elements work within the new storyline. So... I'd say... not bad as Toa elements (except for Vacuum), but a lot of them lack the mystical feeling that fire, water, earth, air, stone, and ice have.

5. Combination of both.

...So number four was long. But I enjoyed typing that up. ^_^

1) The Sky (it's just too awesome to argue against)

2) White and some sort of brown, with either silver or gold accents. Of course, Lego will never actually do that, but that's how I see him.

3) Yeah, I really prefer wings to jetpacks. Hahli's the closest wev'e had to a winged Toa anyway, and she has fins.

4) Good, as long as they keep the actual canister sets similar in element to some degree. A Lhikan-styled promo with a Toa of the Green could be nice :) .

5) Some of each, as long as they look cool. When you think about the Barraki, it's also cool to have some villians that blur the line.

Matau was pretty close, especially movie style. And Vakama could sort of fly with his disk launcher.

1. The Sky. Or at least I hope they do. A City in the Sky (if executed correctly) would be amazing.

2. White and gold, I guess.

3. Winged Toa would be really good - I'd prefer them to jetpacks.

4. Bad. I prefer the old elements to any alternatives.

5. Cruel, calcuating villains. They are much more appealing than beasts (to me.)

1. A fortress island.

2. Pure white.

3. No, that'd be weird. The Toa could just walk in the city, they wouldn't need wings unless they fell off the edge.

4. Very good.

5. I like vicious ones.
