But I myself find it far more irritating when I try to view our beautiful forums and instead end up looking at a list of members.

That's the one that's been getting me, too. I've started clicking on the "BZP Forums" link beneath the members tab, now; it's a little quicker than thinking of where the new forum tab is for me.
