There usually are ways to recover lost files. Although I don't know if they work after reformatting. I've never tried.

Okay, a little bit of searching revealed some possibilities to consider: Panda Recovery, TOKIWA DataRecovery, and Undelete Plus. I'll drop you a link.

Go install Recuva, now. Run a Deep Scan on the affected drive. The formatting Windows does during installation is not necessarily destructive - it just marks old data as free space and sets up a new file system - but the more you use the computer, the more likely you will overwrite the old data, at which point it is totally lost.
