Quantum mechanics and Dirac notation

They make my head hurt. A lot. And I have no idea why it's something I find that annoying and hard and exhausting to understand, the mathematical stuff shouldn't be that awful... I think. :/

So if anyone knows of an intuitive approach, I'd be more than happy to hear about it. ><

This is my favorite physics, but it took me a while before I really understood it. What parts are particularly troubling you?

As for more intuitive ways to think about it, sometimes thinking of bras and kets as vectors helps, but I think grasping them in an abstract way is most beneficial, and its that transition to the abstract understanding that can be particularly difficult.

I guess it's the abstract part I have problems with. Also things like commutation relations and similar things; I fear it's a mixture of lacking abstract understanding as well as a grasp of the mathematics behind it.

(exponential matrices are awful too. :/ )

Wow, I didn't start exponential matrices until I did graduate-level quantum mechanics. It's good that you're getting that exposure, though.

I don't know of any specific source that handles Dirac notation superbly well, but I'm sure you can find some resources online or in your school's library. If I come across any good ones, I'll let you know!

(I may or may not be making a write-up on Dirac notation for fun due to this post. XD Also, what text are you using in your class?)

Well, I guess my encounter with them has only been/ will only be a short ome as well... but the concept itself is still kind of foreign to me. ^^"

Haven't found much online, but then again, my search hasn't been that intensive yet, either.

Aw, thanks! :3

(whaaaat xD Well, if that's fun to you... kidding, I'd probably find it more fun as well if I actually understood it. We're not directly using a "text" per se; I mean, there were a few recommendations, but that was pretty much it)
