And Another Novel Snippet...

Raging Land Squid

So, I posted one of Elek, so, I thought, why leave Loki out? If I did, he'd hurt me... So, here's another section of chapter one, this time, starring Loki...

“Be on guard! All soldiers be on guard!” Shouts echoed through the castle-city of Barrnin as people scurried and rushed to get into their homes. A thief had come to town, and he was as dangerous as they came. In the deepest shadows of the labyrinthine city, a figure moved silently, watching the guards as they flooded the streets.

“Silly little creatures,” the shadow thing said to its self, “they think they can make a difference…” Like a flash the shadow thing ran through the back alleys, slipping through every nook and cranny. Loki Zeckedarious, the Shadow Thief, made quick work of a mile’s worth of streets. He leapt and bounded through crude fire escapes and crumbling balconies, moving as though he were a night-daemon manifested. Several times the blonde haired man slipped and plummeted, but years of thieving and mishaps had taught him how to get out of most situations like this. He quickly latched on to a passing balcony, swinging himself as he fell. With two quick flips he landed steadfast on a lower balcony, speeding off through the shadows once again.

As he reached his target, he was forced to stop. There, in the streets ahead, stood an entire phalanx of the Church Guard, ready for Loki to make his attempt. He stood there in the darkness, trying to get a feel for exactly how many soldiers he had to deal with. He counted at least three dozen guards, but there were sure to be more that he didn’t see, patrolling the rest of the streets. He scanned the area more thoroughly, searching for anything that could…

“There,” he said to himself, pointing out what he had spotted, “Only a few yards away… It’s so close, but yet…” He leapt from the balcony he had perched himself upon, plummeting towards the street below. He held his hands in front of his face and whispered a quick prayer to himself, for he worshipped no gods. Throwing his arms out in front of him, he dove towards the ground. But instead of smashing into the cold concrete alleyway, he merely sank into the shadows, fading completely from view…

Just another unrefined section of chapter one. Enjoy!
