Once Upon a Wat
Okay, so I got caught up with Once Upon a Time and watched the Winter Finale tonight and...
OH. MY. GLOB!
Where to start? BELLE AND RUMPLE, OMG!
Best part of the finale by far. That scene was intense and I am so glad, SO GLAD, they stopped making Belle an ignorant pawn in Rumple's game. Also glad Hook is free because I like that ship. Also, smelled shippers with Elsa and Emma, but maybe I'm reading too much into that. It was a touching goodbye and they went through a lot despite how short a time they spent together. Probably just that (though I still kinda go "D'aww" when I think about it).
So, yeah, Belle. Wow. I can't get over how much I loved that scene. I thought maybe she was planning to go with him to have an ordinary life, which is probably all she wanted anyway, but nope, she was way stronger than that. I love it!
Also, all this "Hunt for the author" is sounding very Gravity Falls-esque. If we see Grunkle Stan, Mabel and Dipper, I'm gonna die very, very happy... eventually. Gravity Falls is Disney. I keep forgetting that because it is so not their usual style.
I hope we can see some of the Frozen cast later down the line, because I actually did enjoy them. Granted they seemed to force the movie a bit too much in the season (like, unnecessarily with the whole Chocolate fixation and that Anna, while she had some really good moments, seemed a bit too over-the-top at times in my opinion. But, you know what, the themes in this arc were really good, so I don't mind that much).
Also, this season thus far has been... well, nothing has been as good as Season One, but this season was good with a great finale. Better than the Wicked Arc in terms of villain and themes (motivation of the villain was good and went back to the show's roots), the references to the original Snow Queen in terms of the mirror (Loved that they brought that in) was super fun. And, while Ingrid's end was a bit rushed, the point still got across and I felt it was fitting. It also ties into the original story's message that positivity can overcome negativity (though there was more death in this version, but hey).
I'm a bit bummed we didn't see too much of the dark side of the characters, though. Snow had a good line about Cora and Regina was definitely worth it, but everyone else? It felt more like first world bickering than actual, you know... "worst of humanity" stuff. I guess they couldn't go too dark what with the target audience and how families probably watch the show, but... It seemed kinda overrated considering the only casualty was the main villain. I guess the idea was that the anger in people would have taken time to get to a truly great rage (which I kinda hold to considering how, as time went on, everyone got nastier with their comments and moral lines to cross, Regina and Snow specifically).
So, let's see... better than Neverland, better than Wicked, and it had an amazing scene in the finale. I really did enjoy this season, and I hope they continue to get better at getting a good feel for the show. They're starting to figure out how to handle all of the mystical elements of magic, especially with the sorcerer and such. I'm really hoping the race for the author will be a good arc, and I'm entirely interested in seeing the identity of the Sorcerer.
But, you know what? Too much ice. Ice is water. 7.8/10
